Strong, Far Too Long

Tears slipping down our faces

Throttled sobs ripping through our throats

Pain in our chests tell us

Our hearts are shattered

Scattered on the floor

We’re crying

We’re crying at last

The hurt is easing

Slowly and painfully

But we’re releasing

What we’ve held in so long

Some call this weak

We call it strong

For far too long

The glass has cracked

And the water has boiled

The pain has shattered us

And the tears have overflown

We are not weak

We are strong

Because it’s braver

To be exposed

To show where we hurt

Than it is to hide

Bury all the pain

Close the lid

Till we blow

For that only hurts us more

Even if we call it strong

So we are not weak

We are brave

Because we’ve been strong

For far too long
