Song Breakdown 4

Hey guys, Cameron here.

Sorry I didn't post my song breakdown yesterday, I spent most of my night doing an LGBT short film about sex and gender and all that good stuff (my parents can vouch for me).

Anyway, as I haven't slept, the lovely Aurora helped me out with what song to do this week, because I'm so tired that I can't sleep. So I encourage you all to comment below on what LGBT songs you would like me to do, because I don't spend long choosing and may miss your favourites.

Anyway, today we will be doing 'Same Love' by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Mary Lambert.

Macklemore is famous for writing Thrift Shop with Ryan Lewis, which was aimed to remove the stigma that surrounded buying things at thrift shops which, on a side note, is actually a really smart thing to do.

The point of this song focuses on the true meaning of sexuality, with the chorus going as far as to say "I can't change, even if I try." Which is in direct opposition to what most people use when attacking homosexual people.

It is interesting that all people in this song are implied to be straight, and although it is never stated, the singer is at one point reassured by his mother he isn't, so one can only assume that they are.

However, because the singers are, for all intensive purposes, straight, it sends a new meaning, rather than LGBT advocates singing about it (Brendon Urie is Barsexual (that's a thing according to him), Troye Sivan is gay, and P!nk is bisexual), we have straight people singing for it, the first time in this short period I have covered Straight Allies.

Anyway, back to the song. The song, to put it simply, was written to hit down all the homophobia that was circulating at the time, which there was A LOT of tbh. But really the entire song is about the rights for people in homosexual relationships to get married, rather than having certain parts on it.
