Hello ✩Star✩! Welcome to this week’s
#takeover on St. Patrick’s Day ☘.
Today I’m gonna be talking to you
about St. Patrick’s Day symbols. I hope
you enjoy!

The Shamrock ☘
The Shamrock is probably the most
recognizable symbol in St. Patrick’s Day.
This three sided clover is extremely
important to the celebration.
Originally Shamrocks symbolized the
rebirth of Spring. After the long winters
these were some of the first plants to
bloom again.
Nowadays the Shamrock is a symbol of
Irish Pride, when Britain invaded Ireland
many Irish wore Shamrocks to remind
themselves of their heritage.

The Snakes :snake:
This symbol isn’t as well known as
the Shamrock, but it’s still really cool.
It is said that Saint Patrick drove out
all the snakes from Ireland, in actuality
this was a metaphor for driving out the
pagan beliefs. You might not know, but
Saint Patrick was a christian and his
mission was to bring Christianity to Ireland.
It took a little less than 200 years after
Saint Patrick’s arrival to fully Christianize
Ireland.

The Leprechaun
Another easily recognizable symbol
is the leprechaun. These creatures were
actually fairies.
In the Celtic folklore leprechaun would
repair the shoes of other fairies. They
were also known for protecting their
treasure very ionately. They used
their trickery to protect it and they were
quite adept at it.

The Color Green
Saint Patrick didn’t actually wear green,
he actually wore blue. It is thought that
the color green came from Ireland’s
green appearance all year round.
Wearing the color can help give you
luck, especially on Saint Patrick’s Day.
There’s a little tradition children started
where they’d pinch people who forgot
to wear green and to this day the
tradition remains.
