On My Own - Poem

Hello! Kieran with another poem! This one is a bit longer and a bit more deeper than usual.

On My Own

I tried. God I tried. Everyday. I just wanted you to love me.

Why wasn’t I enough for you? Why did you insist on hating me so deeply?

Why is the bad side of you the only side I couldn’t see?

After knowing what you’ve done to me, do you still sleep soundly?

I gave you everything I had. Emptied my pockets and rang myself dry.

I begged you to stay, to never leave me. I’d do anything for you to stay.

Spent days and nights sobbing out my tears and now I have nothing left to cry.

I just stand idly, staring out my window, wasting my life away.

You wanted everything but never gave.

You wanted to be protected, but you could never save.

You wanted the ocean but never waves.

You wanted everything that you craved.

Forgetting you is impossible and forgiving isn’t an option.

I gave you my life and saved you from destruction.

In return you broke my mind, and left me vulnerable and alone

Now I’m stuck picking up the pieces here on my own.

Fast forward into the future. I’m getting it together.

Without you in my life, I’ve never gone further.

Climbing the mountains you once claimed with ease

Swimming through the oceans you tried so hard to freeze.

Sometimes in times like these, I wonder if anything you said to me was true.

Or if it was all part of some scheme that only benefited you.

You took advantage of my weakness and found strength and power.

Now the feel of your name leaves my mouth sour.

Maybe one day you’ll find your peace.

But sadly for you, it’ll be without me.

I tried to help you, but you couldn’t be bothered.

I hope you think of your actions while feeling low and somber.

I finally found my home without you here.

I finally feel safe without you near.

You may have left me broken and alone.

But I glued back the pieces all on my own.
