WARNING: Spoilers for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them!
:exclamation: :grey_exclamation: :exclamation: :grey_exclamation: :exclamation: :grey_exclamation: :exclamation:
So hi everyone! I'm here again, after way too long away. I'm here with a different sort of blog, as the song breakdown did not really seem to interest many of you. So here I am, showing you what Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them has to say about the closet.
:door: :door: :door:
For any of you who did not see the letters above, there will be spoilers.
:bangbang: :bangbang: :bangbang: :bangbang:
In the film, there are many antagonists. But most would agree the one that is most obvious as an enemy is the Obscurial, the suppressed magic that a young witch or wizard is able to create.
👁🗨👁🗨👁🗨
The Obscurial can be seen as an allegory for a person's gender or sexuality, being suppressed. The Obscurial itself is supposed to die off at about 10, but this one held on for another 4 years, why is that? Interestingly enough, it's not just because the character is not only strong, but in the wrong situation.
:anger: :anger: :anger:
Another so-called 'enemy' of witches and wizards is an organisation who wants a second Salem, or witch trial. The Obscurial is the adopted son of the head of that place, forcing him to have to keep his magic secret. To give this a real-life context, imagine the child of the head of an organisation who wants to go around killing homosexual people, and the child is gay. Of course he is not going to simply let the woman know he is gay, or in this case, a wizard.

This film is interesting, because if by extension we compare the wizarding world to the LGBTQIA+ people, then we find that it is almost exactly the same, with them having to hide to avoid persecution. LGBT people back in the day did in fact go to bars designed just for them, where they could be safe.
 :wine_glass: :cocktail: :cocktail: :wine_glass:
But I think what really takes the biscuit for me is the case, the centrepiece of the film. It is where Newt goes with Jacob and shows him all these creatures that were being hunted in the real world for various reasons. Take away the obvious appearance of all the poaching going on in the world, and we see creatures persecuted for what they are, given shelter by a man also in a minority.
⚜⚜⚜
The Demiguise is the most LGBT figure out of the ones that escape. The fact that it is able to turn invisible is in some ways a link to the joke of the QIA+ part of the acronym. They are always joked about not being real, and so they are sort of thought of as invisible parts of society.
:mens: :restroom: :womens:
Anyway, that's my take on the film and the LGBT elements in it. Even without such matters involved, it is an amazing film with top quality CGI, just amazing.
Thanks guys, peace out :v:
PS, I guess #25DaysOfChristmas

Woah, this is really cool! I absolutely love Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, especially the latter. I love this analysis of Fantastic Beasts. I knever thought of the Wizarding World that way. I'll think of it this way from now on; it's really interesting. Great post!
Huh, I never thought about it like that before. Very cool. :relaxed:
This is awesome!!!!
Love the post! I never thought about it that way but now that's the only way I can see it. I am so excited for the next movie and I really hope they include Dumbledore and Grindelwald's sexuality
Also Grindelwald was gay

It was a mistake because it was late at night but it can be a pun if you want.
