It’s your favorite froggy editor anne here, with another post! This time it’s a #takeover which is brought to you by the editors :D! This one’s about crocodiles!! So let’s Go go go!

Crocidilia is an order of mostly large, predatory, semiaquatic reptiles, known as crocodilians. They first appeared 95 million years ago in the Late Cretaceous period (Cenomanian stage) and are the closest living relatives of birds, as the two groups are the only known survivors of the Archosauria. of the order’s total group, the clade Pseudosuchia, appeared about 250 million years ago in the Early Triassic period, and diversified during the Mesozoic era. They are big green animals with scales basically!

They can be found on beaches and small island formations without any freshwater source, such as many cays and islets Today, crocodiles are found in the tropical habitats of Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas. They normally live near lakes, rivers, wetlands and even some saltwater regions. American crocodiles occur in South Florida and also can be found in Hispaniola, Cuba, Jamaica, along the Caribbean coast from southern Mexico to Venezuela, and along the Pacific coast from Mexico to Peru. The northern end of the crocodile's range is in South Florida.

Until 2020, the evolution of the American crocodile was poorly understood. However, the discovery of the Miocene species Crocodylus checchiai indicates that it, the Orinoco crocodile, the Morelet’s crocodiles and the Cuban crocodile all share an ancestor hailing from Africa. The newly discovered animal may also represent the base of the evolutionary radiation of these animals, representing the missing link between crocodiles in Africa and the Americas.

The genus Crocodylus likely originated in Africa and radiated outwards towards Southeast Asia and the Americas,although an Australia/Asia origin has also been considered. Phylogenetic evidence s Crocodylus diverging from its closest recent relative, the extinct Voay of Madagascar, around 25 million years ago, near the Oligocene/Miocene boundary.

IN CONCLUSION

Crocodiles are very cool animals and you should consider them actually being nice and not being afraid of them! They may be my new favorite animal lol. Thanks for tuning in and until next time anne out!
