The Design

The inspiration for my bag design is a mix between satchels and backpacks. At the bottom of the front there is a small pocket, above that is a zipped pocket, which creates a cover for the bag. This cover is attached at the top and when flipped over is secured by the 'satchel' buckles. When it is flipped open the main part of the bag can be unzipped and used much like a backpack. On the back of this bag there would also be two normal backpack straps for carrying. I went with a black and dark grey colour scheme because it doesn't get dirty as easily as lighter coloured bags, and black goes with any outfit. I would definitely love to have this bag design in real life because lots of pockets makes life better. I'm very happy with how it turned out, let me know what you think in the commentsᵎᵎ

The Process

To create this bag I used Photoshop and it took me about three hours because I knit-pick over every detail. First I used the Rounded Rectangle tool to make the three basic shapes of this design {the main bag, the bottom pocket, and the cover/top pocket}. Then I rounded all the edges to 0.50 cm so they were the same on each shape. The main bag has a black fill with a small grey outline, the same for the bottom pocket, but the cover/top pocket is in dark grey with a black outline for some contrast. Then I found a satchel bag from creative commons {a website for searching copyright free images}. I selected the buckles off of the bag and copied them onto my design. I smoothed the edges and made them longer so they attached properly onto both pockets. The next step was adding the zip across the cover/top pocket using the Pen tool and used the Brush tool to make the loop at the top. The final step was finding the right effects for each element. The main bag uses a Bevel & Emboss texture effect, along with the small pocket, which also has a Drop Shadow for more contrast. The cover/top pocket has a Satin texture effect. These textures make the bag design less flat and create interest.
