hey, lovelies ! fabiola here and welcome back to my blog <3 so, today, i will be sharing with you my audition from #AminsGotTalent with a poem i wrote for pride month. I really like this poem, and I hope you do as well. This poem speaks about how we should celebrate pride month, but embrace where it came from and how it originated. We are currently a little past the midst of the month, and I think that it would be a good idea if I shared a poem I wrote myself regarding our month. Now, let’s go <3

(Questions will be answered on the section after the poem)

Title : “Let Us Fete June”

It’s finally that time of the year—

A month that brings us all together.

When, years ago, valiants marched across New York City without fear.

Gee, it’s finally June!

The month of celebration

To those who marched with a high fist under the moon.

It all happened in a country

That had promised freedom, equality, and justice for all;

And that covenant was so, that we had to march from Stonewall.

We weren’t accepted, instead put aside

But this month, so-called June—

Celebrates how we feel from inside.

We, together, the people, must march and fete

The beautiful and sunny month of June with pride.

:tulip: who are you?

(Tell us a bit about yourself! This can includes your name, age, pronouns, interests, and etc.)

My name is Fabiola. I am 14 years old; my pronouns are she/they, lesbian, and I am a k-pop fan. Ever since I was a little girl, I showed an interest for liberal arts. Writing is a gift that I inherited from my father’s side (my uncle is a folk music songwriter) and my father studied journalism and marketing.

I’ve shown an interest in writing since I was young, as well as singing. Over the course of my life, I’ve written approximately 467 poems (since I was in the second grade). I write mostly about everything that inspires me (usually love). I have a strong belief in trusting ones nature and expressing one’s feelings, and everyone has a different way of expressing themselves. Some like drawing, others painting, but mine is writing, for sure.

:tulip: what inspired you?

(Did something catch your eye to inspire this piece? Does it have meaning to you? Let us know!)

I made a blog about the story of pride month that won blog of the week, and I am glad people liked it <3 i was scrolling through my blogs here, and I read that blog again. As I was doing so, I asked myself how it would’ve felt to be a part of the Stonewall march, and how they people might’ve felt. I always wondered why the police (or homophobia, in general) was practiced in the United States, a place that promised freedom, equality, and justice for all. This shows the hypocrisy and convenience in our government. The perseverance of the LGBTQ+ community in 1969 led to what we are today, and I wanted to capture the sense of victory into a poem. That was my true inspiration for this poem.

:tulip: how long did it take?

(How long did you work on this? Did you take breaks? Lose interest? Let us know what happened!)

I would say that about 15-20 minutes. I was sitting on my bed, completely bored, a little while after finishing watching “The Unheard Tapes of Marilyn Monroe” with my father (my father has COVID-19 and I don’t so I need to isolate myself as much as possible). I had wanted to write a poem like this one for a couple of days, but the right inspiration didn’t click to me. I am a very spontaneous girl. Whenever I get the idea randomly, I run to the first piece of paper (or any surface) to immediately write it down; a good rhyme is never to be wasted.

That being said, after sitting down and sulking in my thoughts, I got the perfect rhyme (which were the last three lines of the poem). I immediately slid the door of my bookshelf headboard and grabbed a pen to start writing the rhyme down. Randomly writing words down, I thought I had the poem done. However, when I read it, I was completely disappointed in what I had written. After such, I came back and read my pride month blog, and then I got it.

The pink pen I had used was now being crossed out with a green glitter Amscan pen from Party City and started writing down words that did make sense and rhymed properly. I was satisfied with my work, and then that is the poem you read just now. I have a picture of the poem in my notebook.

:tulip: what did you use?

(What materials did you use? What apps, art supplies, etc? Make sure you get credit if needed!)

My materials were just simple writing materials. I used a spiral notebook from Marshalls ($6.99), a pink PaperMate pen that came in a bundle with other colors from Walmart ($4.99), and, for the corrections, I used a green glitter Amscan pen my mother got for me from Party City. It comes in a bundle with pink and orange and it was $3.99. Now, for the blog dividers, I used Phonto (a font app). For the polaroid I used PicsArt and the Sana and Nayeon icon (TWICE) is from Pinterest.
