50 years ago the fight for LGBTQ equality began in the Stonewall Inn of New York City. Today we celebrate who are, and how far we've come, while still continuing to fight for equal rights.

So here a list of different major pride parades from around the world. Along with some information about them.

Here we go.

Before I start the list I would like to discuss the origins of Pride Parades and their importance.

The Christopher Street Liberation Day March was held on the 27th of June 1970, one year after the Stonewall Riots. It was organized by the Eastern Regional Conference of Homophile Organizations (ERCHO) in Philadelphia. Those who played a major role in its organization are the activists Craig Rodwell, his partner Fred Sargeant, Ellen Brody and Linda Rhodes. The march was held in New York City as a commemoration to Stonewall.

The initial proposal was for an annual march on the last Saturday of June, and that there would be “no dress or age regulations.” Current methods used by LGBT activists of that time would be hosting walks and vigils in silence. And all with a required dress code, being men in jackets and ties and women in dresses. That made the Christopher Street Liberation Day March a stark difference.

The term "Gay Pride" came from L. Craig Schoonmaker. During an interview in 2015 , Schoonmaker stated that:

"A lot of people were very repressed, they were conflicted internally, and didn’t know how to come out and be proud. That’s how the movement was most useful, because they thought, ‘Maybe I should be proud.’” The official chant for the march became, “Say it loud, gay is proud.”

The march was 51 blocks long. It went from west of Sixth Avenue at Waverly Place, in Greenwich Village, and went all the way to Sheep’s Meadow in Central Park. Afterwards, activists held a “Gay-in", which borrowed techniques popularized by the Civil Rights Movement. “Gay-in” was both a protest and a celebration. The New York Times featured the headline “Thousands of Homosexuals Hold A Protest Rally in Central Park" on its front page,

Different from parades today, there were no floats, no music that was blasting through the streets, or other factors now associated with pride parades. The Christopher Street Liberation Day Marches was a political statement and a test. It was used to answer the question, what would happen when LGBT citizens became more visible?

That is a brief bit on the origin of Pride parades. I highly suggest everyone to go and do research on the history pride and parades. They are a major part of our history, and it is important to why they were started.

Now let's get onto the schedule.

And if there any I miss, please let me know and I'll be sure to add them.
