Video Game (Movie) Custom Moc #4: “Dr. Robotnik and ‘The Eggpod’” | (#BLSTSP20)

I’m not really sure if I’ll totally be back and activity posting after this, because I’m still currently in my builder’s block. But only because I entered the BLST League without giving it a second thought, for now, your lord has returned with a new blog! I’ve also returned with a new blog format, which is not too different, but I personally like it better than the last.

So, since the current round I was placed in says that I could make a thing from any kind of media, be it either from a game/show/movie, I went wild. It took me a bit to decide, but I eventually decided to go for something that was kind of a mix of media. What kind of media, you may ask? Well, the thing I decided to go with is basically from a video game movie. The Super Mario Bros. movie from the 90s? Nah. Tomb Raider? Hell no. Detective Pikachu? I would actually love to make a MOC of that, but still no. What movie? Well, this one was rather recent, and came out earlier this year.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie!

Just for a small retrospect, I watched the movie a few days after it was released to theaters. I loved it; wasn’t the perfect movie, of course, but it did what it could. Personally, I would rate it a 7/10. Anyways, the point is, after I saw the movie, I was inspired to make something from it, something that appeared in the movie. I had that idea since then, and now I finally got to make it happen. *happy Lyric noises*

So... why don’t we start the showcase? Let’s-a-go!

Before we get onto the major stuff, let’s start with a small mini-build—

The Badnik/Drone!

“Look what came out of my egg sack?”

This build took me a few tries in order to perfect it. I tried my best to replicate the distinct egg-like shape that these Badniks (or drones, whatever they’re called in the movie) had, including the accuracy to the film. Although I like, and get the whole “origin story” interpretation the movie went with, I’ve always hated that they were pretty inaccurate to the games. It’s the same with the MOC I’ll show later.

Also, here’s the Badnik in their attack mode. The things sticking out are the retractable missile launchers they have, while the ones on the side are meant to be the twin machine gun thingies.

Now, before we get onto the MOC, let’s dive into the main character of the MOC, also the villain of the movie—

Dr. Robotnik(or Eggman)!

Heh heh... Uh... Wait, where’s the minifig?

. . .

What?! I don’t have all the pieces for him?!

Oh, well.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, I don’t have all the pieces I need to make Robotnik. I ordered some of the parts I needed through Bricklink, but it’ll probably take next week for them to arrive. It’ll probably be a huge knock on my entry for not having a minifigure, so for now, with the parts I have, have this awkward excuse of a stand-in:

So... Uh, moving on, it’s time to finally show off the MOC, the vehicle that comes with Robotnik;

The Eggpod!

(Fun fact about the interior, is that in the front you can notice the blue cheese-slope piece and the red button under it, which represents Sonic’s quill powering the Eggpod)

Besides the L-OmegaShip, this is probably the largest ship I’ve ever made. Like with the Badnik, I’ve tried my best to include as many details to give it accuracy, which was rather stressful to do, and gave me a small migraine. To be honest, the Eggpod was the most stressful thing to make, not only because the curvature and egg-like proportions of it, but because the limited time I was given to finish it. Even when putting it onto the stand I made for it, it took awhile for me to put it in a certain position. When I tried simply putting it into the air on the stand, it broke apart on me like 5 times. Overall, I kinda had to rush on making this thing in order to get into the BLSTSP.

Buuuuut, look-wise, the Eggpod is almost perfect. Some details are off, but overall I really like how it looks!

And, last detail, the Eggpod has some s that can open up to reveal some hidden volleys of missiles, and has some extra attachments that add onto that feature. It’s only just to recreate a scene from the movie.
