There was something in the way that she’d always look at him. Her eyes held some sort of warmth in the depths, and only shined bright whenever she’d narrow them onto Draco. He could understand why she felt the way that she did for him, and despite the fact that he didn’t hold the same for her.... there’d still be times where they would be seen together in very intimate ways. They’d been caught a couple of times in dark alcoves, or abandoned classrooms where nobody would know to check. Even when he’d allow her to touch him, her hands were foreign upon his skin.
They’ve been intimate since the beginning of their Third Year. His emotions towards her were on and off, while hers somehow always remained intact. He couldn’t understand it, how could someone like her continue to have anything for him when he wasn’t even the slightest accepting of her. How could she lower her standards so low for him, when she could have anyone, she wanted – who would treat her the way that she deserves, something that Draco couldn’t apparently do.
Ever since he had seen Hermione Granger in the Mirror of Erised, he had been cozier with Pansy in hopes to ignore that desire that he had seen in that damned mirror. The thing was a bloody curse, that’s what it was. How could all of this have come down to where he has to use another woman to distract his wanting, and wandering mind?
Third year had come and gone quick, all the students were wandering the halls, weaving through crowds just to get to the Great hall – it was rumored that there were some students from different schools coming to visit Hogwarts, so everyone was rather excited to see these said students. Everyone was laughing, and flashing bright smiles amongst each other. Whispering, and covering their mouths like they’d just discovered someone's secret.
Draco made his way through these crowds. His blonde hair almost white as snow shined above the million different other heads, that’s how one was always able to pick apart Draco from the rest of a crowd. With his alabaster skin, bright almost glowing hair and silver eyes that glared at you when you’d bump into him, or stare at him for too long.
The students were introduced. Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning and a French School that goes by the name of Beauxbatons. Professor Albus Dumbledore explained how there was going to be a Triwizard Tournament taking place within the next couple of days. Meaning; these students from different schools will be staying at Hogwarts until those Tournaments have come to an end. Hogwarts was certainly going to be full, that’s for sure.
Hogwarts was even going to throw together a dance for everyone to enjoy with these other schools. Which was something that they’ve never done before, so this’ll be something new for all of Hogwarts Students. Everyone was galivanting around the school, figuring out their dates for the Yule Ball. Some getting rejected, and others still not caring to find one. Whichever it was, it was known what was going down.
“Hey Draco.” The words slithered so delicately off the persons lips; it was a feminine voice. A voice that he knew all too well and for a moment his eyes closed in annoyance. All he simply wanted to do was read his book, not make small conversation with someone. Let alone – Pansy Parkinson. “Can I talk to you?” She asked while taking a seat in the chair next to where he sat in the library.
Draco’s eyes slowly opened, narrowing in to make with her eyes. “By all means, Pansy.” His hand gestured towards the seat she sat in. “You’ve already taken a seat, so – best get on with it then.” He went back to reading his book, clearly not interested in whatever she has to say and secretly hoped that she’d get the idea, and just bloody walk away. But... to his dismay, she remained.
“Well... the other students are going around asking people to the Yule Ball.”
“Ah, yes.” He nodded. “The Yule Ball.”
“Yes. Have you asked anyone to go with you yet?” There was the slightest switch in the octave of her voice, as if she was anxious about what would come out of his next. Perhaps for the fear of being rejected.
“No, Pansy. I actually haven’t asked anyone yet – I was going to but you just ruined that, didn’t you? You can’t just let it play out the way it’s supposed to go.”
Her face paled.
Draco rolled his eyes, finally closing his book before turning to look in her direction. “I was actually going to ask you, so with that being said. Go to the Yule Ball with me.” It wasn’t even a question; it was more of a demand. As if she didn’t have much of an option anyways – but the look on her face seemed to lighten up, as all the color returned and a wide grin approached her lips.
Merlin, she was absolutely insane.
“That’s such a silly question, of course I go with you. I mean-” She scoffed, holding out her hands with the palms facing up. “Who else would you ask?”
Draco squinted his eyes down at her, and his lips turned into a low frown as if he were slightly disgusted. He had other ideas in mind of who he could ask, perhaps one of those Beauxbatons girls. “It wasn’t a quest-”
“Alright! I’ll see you then.” She got up before he could even finish what he was going to say, or before the conversation would go on any longer.
It was nighttime, the night of the Yule Ball, and Draco was getting ready with Goyle in the boys' dormitories. His mother had owled his robes, which looked to be quite expensive, then again, he was a Malfoy so it didn’t come as a surprise to him. Not to mention, his mother had good taste in what she could see on her son without him actually needing to be there.
“So, you’re really going with Pansy?” Goyle asked while adjusting his tie.
“Is that what she told you?” A smirk twitched at the corner of his lips.
“Well - yeah, she said you asked her. Was she wrong?”
“By wrong you mean that she had the audacity to search me out, finding me in the library and disturbing my precious reading time just to ask if I’ve found anyone to go with?” He looked over at Goyle. “She basically put herself on the spot without even giving me the option to ask anyone – let alone her.”
Goyle raised his eyebrows, which almost went up into his hairline, chuckling. “She’s fancied you for a while now, doesn’t surprise me one bit that she sought you out.”
Draco looked at him as if he was an idiot. “Oh, no need to go on telling me. I already know.”
Goyle nodded his head, and after a few more adjustments to their robes they made way to the Great Hall where the Yule Ball was being held. Draco met Pansy by the door, holding his arm out for her which she happily took and they made their way inside. Goyle not too far behind them.
“You look amazing, Draco.” Pansy complimented, and the light from above casted over her sun-kissed features and glistening makeup. Draco didn’t dare miss the look she’d given him and, in that moment, even she looked beautiful in his eyes but it still didn’t change things.
“You dress up nice as well.” Was all that came out of his mouth, he leaned in and placed a kiss at the side of her temple, nothing too affectionate but enough to keep her hooked in a way.
They waited for the rest too arrive, since they were there a little earlier than the others which of course wasn’t something that was a surprise. Pansy leaned her head forward to see all the students coming forth. The men in their tuxes and the women in their dresses. Everyone dressed up rather well, even the sodding Gryffindor’s. Pansy’s eyes widened when she saw someone who looked familiar, but it wasn’t something that was for sure. She thought maybe that her eyes were playing tricks on her.
“Is that...?” She shook her head, as if she was trying to not believe that it was but Draco looked up at her and followed her line of sight to a woman in pink periwinkle frilly dress, hair done up to the side in beautiful bouncy curls, and even had the faintest most subtle makeup beneath her eyes. His lips parted.
Hermione Granger
Yes, it indeed was Hermione Granger, and even she had dressed up rather well that neither of the two Slytherin’s could bring themselves to even say anything to one another. Let alone, to insult her. It was a rare thing to see really. Draco had always been someone who’d insult her on her blood but nothing would come. Not to mention, it just made that desire that he’d seen in the Mirror of Erised deeper.
Everyone went to dancing once all the students were with their people who they came there with. Draco’s hand fell to Pansy’s waist, and he held one of her hands while one of hers rested at his shoulder. They waltzed around the room, and spun around others who perhaps would have gotten in their way but the way that everyone worked with their feet and movements, with such elegance and precision, nobody bumped into another, and no one stepped on each-others feet.
“Correct me if I’m wrong. But... shouldn’t you be staring at your Yule Ball date and not someone else?” Pansy mentioned while glancing around at others to make sure that no one was listening in on their conversation. Though, somewhere around them someone was for sure listening in on them despite the fact that they weren’t looking in their direction.
“What’re you even talking about? Do you see the amount of people in this room right now?” He scoffed. “Come on, Pans. Don’t be getting all jealous on me now – it certainly is not a cute look on you.” He finally let his eyes fall down onto her, as he continued to carry them around the room which was spinning at this point. All the lights blurred together with the decorations as he finally just let his eyes devour her physique.
“Maybe I wouldn’t be getting jealous if you’d simply just look at me, and not only when you want something. Is it that hard? Like, really? I’ve always been right here-”
“Don’t even start with me right now, we are in the middle of a dance. I am touching you, and even said you’d be my date when I could’ve had anyone else, I wanted. I’d say.” The Malfoy smirk played over his lips while he lifted his eyes to glance around the room and back down. “You’re pretty lucky to even be in my arms right now, wouldn’t you say?”
Meanwhile, our wonderful Know-It-All Witch was dancing around with Viktor Krum and listening in on their conversation. She couldn’t help but hear what was going on, and even assumed that he had been looking at her. Because from the very first time they’d locked eyes was in the Great Hall, and she had questioned why, because seriously. Why? Out of anyone else in the damned school – why was Draco Malfoy looking at her? She wanted to understand, but at the same time she didn’t.
Pansy’s eyes narrowed, and there was just the slightest twitch in her lips before she started pouting. “Let’s-” She shook her head, looking up through her lashes at him. “Can we just have this night for ourselves? Please?” She begged, and if Draco wasn’t into that he’d think that she was being rather ridiculous.
He rolled his eyes, and was on the edge of saying no but instead – he dipped her back, and placed his lips upon hers. Pansy’s lips were warm against his own, as if they were delicate waves crashing to shore and kissing the sand before being pulled back. It was all there, and in a flash – Draco pulled away, and was out of her grasp before she could even comprehend what had just happened.
Pansy stood there dumbfounded – she didn’t understand why he was so different with her. He only allowed her to touch him when they were in private, and there were rare occasions when she was able without him getting mad. Yes, she was tired of always being treated like a second choice, like she was only there for him to get his satisfaction whenever he needed a fix – or whenever he needed to get his mind off of something. She was there, always there. But in the end; Draco would never return the favor for her, and if he did? That too, was on rare bloody occasions.

Ending Notes:
The Yule Ball idea was by this 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵 girl! Also, it's sort of a part two for the fic I wrote - The Mirror of Erised (Dramione). I hope those who ship Dransy and Dramione enjoy this short little fic! Thank you for reading since Dransy is new territory for me, but my friend Pansy convinced me enough with her thoroughly put together opinions. Any minds can change on a ship that they don't like, maybe not even at all and that's completely fine! Enjoy the ships that you do like — but don't hate on them. It's not something they'd like too hear! Even if they don't care!~
