triggering topics so please read with

caution, thank you.

Hello everyone and a warm welcome

from me, Mia the author of this blog.

I hope that this reaches you all in

good health and please, do stay for

this one - it is personally my favourite

I have written to date!

This is the first part I will be posting

in my findings on the three Peverell

brothers, my original plan was to simply

provide you readers with information

solely on the Peverell's however, I got

carried away and ended up falling down

some rabbit holes with new discoveries

and forming questions.

As I did go on to write quite a lot,

I have split my writings between two

posts, this one being the first. Please

do enjoy, and I hope you all learn

something new! The second part shall

be posted tomorrow.

You can read the second part here.

Previous to 1214 Antioch Peverell, the eldest sibling to two younger brothers, was born into the pure-blood Peverell family. He was recounted as a "combative man" indicating that he may of had a rather short fuse when it came to his patience and would not turn down a fight or argument if such a situation were to present itself. Antioch was almost certainly not shy in nature nor would his willpower have been weak; the man would have held what he believed tightly, ready to refute anyone who may have said otherwise. Even if he did find out that he had been wrong about something, the chances of him acknowledging this would have been nonexistent, he would refuse to believe the possibility he had ever been wrong, selfishly so - probably for fear it would make him feel and allow others to see him as weak. Aggravation would have risen up in him regularly with other people being able to bring it out of him with ease. Antioch seemed like the type of man who loved attention have it be positive or negative, to sum everything up bluntly, the eldest Peverell sibling desired power beyond anything else and wanted everyone else to view him in such a way - as an all powerful wizard.

↷          ↷          ↷

Within the writings that make up The Tale Of The Three Brothers, Death appears to the three brothers after witnessing their magical abilities and in turn offers each of them a reward. Antioch was the first to ask and recieve his gift, he asked Death for a wand. Not just any wand but one that would be the most powerful in all existence, asking that it would never fail him when used in a duel surely meaning it would lead him to an almost certian victory if he used the right spells in the right way. Death granted this wish as promised and formed a wand from an elder tree, handing it over to Antioch. The Elder Wand was made.

↷          ↷          ↷

When all the Peverell brothers had recieved their gifts from Death, they carried on their journey eventually all going their separate ways. The eldest brother traveled to a distant village, one he must have been to before as while he was there he came across another wizard he had once quarrelled with. They fought but as Antioch was in possession of the Elder Wand, he got the upper hand and used it to defeat his opponent with ease, killing him. This deed was done perhaps out of revenge or just to show off the power of the wand that he owned to those around him - to boast. He himself may have been curious at how strong the wand really was and just wanted to see how much damage it could do, coming across an old rival was the perfect opportunity for him to do so. In celebration for his victory, Antioch checked into a local inn where he got heavily drunk leading onto loud and obnoxious boastful spouts about himself and how powerful his new wand was that he had snatched "from Death himself".

↷          ↷          ↷

That night, while he was in a drunken slumber, another wizard crept into his room and stole the Elder Wand for himself. To ensure that he would not try to reclaim it for his own, the unknown wizard slit Antioch's throat for good measure: killing him. The fact that Antioch was the original owner of the Elder Wand meant nothing as it's unmatchable power could do nothing to protect him while sleeping.

↷          ↷          ↷

His murder happened many years previous to 1292 with his body being laid to rest in a churchyard at Godric's Hollow. His constant power hungry state and vanity lead to his ego consuming him. No matter how much power he truly did have, his life ironically ended while his most treasured and powerful possession lay right next to him within arms reach. He was blind to Death's true intentions.

Just like his older brother Cus Peverell, the middle sibling, was born previous to 1214 to the pure-blooded Peverell family. He was a very skilled wizard as his brothers were, however his personality was describe to be that of an "arrogant man". While Antioch may have displayed this trait due to him being combative, for Cus it is all that we know and so it is assumed that this was a very major part of him.

↷          ↷          ↷

Early on in his life he had fallen deeply in love with a woman to the extent that they soon became ready for marriage. Unfortunately before they could have their wedding she met an early end and ed on. This event may have been what formed or caused Cus' arrogance to grow stronger, he also may have potentially used this in some ways to cover up the hurt he was definitely feeling due to the departure of his fiancé: a way for him to deal with the grief. By making a lot of things about himself and exaggerating his own importance, Cadums would be able to distract himself from what he had lost and try to help keep his feelings pieced together.

↷          ↷          ↷

Despite his heartbreak, the middle Peverell sibling did have a child of his own although if it was with his fiancé and she died due to complications, or if he had his child with another woman, is not known.

↷          ↷          ↷

In Beedle The Bard's story when the three brothers use their magic to form a bridge over a dangerous river and Death appears before then, Cus set about humiliating Death even more that Antioch had; trying to out do his brother, showing his arrogance. He asked for the power to bring back those who had already died and so, Death granted his wish. He plucked a stone from the river bank and presented it to Cus explaining that it would have the power to bring back those that were no longer living. The Ressurection Stone was created.

↷          ↷          ↷

Sometime after splitting ways with his brothers, he ventured back to his home where he used his new gift, by turning the stone "thrice in hand" in hopes of reviving his love and bringing her back to him. To Cus' amusement and delight she did indeed appear before him once more, but it was far from what he had hoped for. She appeared to still be separated from him in some way as if by a veil, she looked cold and sad, not how he wanted to see her or ed her to be - she did not truly belong in the mortal world anymore and so suffered. Opposed to curing his grief and helping to mend his emotions, the whole ordeal only worsened the man as his grief consumed him more harshly, leaving the Peverell to be devoured by a hopeless longing of a reunion with his love. And so, the middle brother killed himself in hope that he could be ed with her once more.

↷          ↷          ↷

Again, like Antioch, his death happened before 1292 and he was also burried in the same churchyard in Godric's Hollow. Cus did however have an heir and his family would continue on with the Ressurection Stone being ed down between them all. It was not his personality that lead to his downfall or repercussions of his own actions like Antioch's, but rather the opposite, it was his own feelings that betrayed him and could not be fixed with events out of his own hands leading to his slow but eventual downfall.

The youngest pure-blood Peverell sibling, Ignotus Peverell was born on the 12th July 1214 in Godric's Hollow to his family. He was described and would have been known as both humble and wise, showing that in of his personality, that he was quite estranged from his eldest brother and rather different still from the other.

↷          ↷          ↷

Being wise and notably so would have provided Ignotus with very good judgement when it came to both familiar and unfamiliar situations, being able to assess them well and equally, understanding all points and not ignoring things he did not like - as his brothers may have: nothing is overlooked. He may have also had a vast knowledge regarding specific topics which would have aided him in being able to make quick and more accurate judgements. Whereas his brothers - mostly Antioch - would have been boastful and outspoken about themselves, Ignotus was a humble man. Someone who would have been modest about himself and never try to exaggerat his own importance but would have been more honest and know and accept where and when he had done wrong - entirely self-effacing.

↷          ↷          ↷

The Tale Of The Three Brothers tells of Death feeling cheated when the Peverell brothers evaded dying in the river that would have surely killed them, and only faked being impressed by their magical skills and offering rewards for such tallent. While Antioch and Cus failed to see Death's true intentions, Ignotus "did not trust Death". Instead of asking for something that would give him power or what he desired the most, he was more cunning with what he asked for from Death. Ignotus requested something that would allow him to go on his way without the possibility of Death following him. Unwillingly Death handed over part of his own cloak, giving it to the youngest Peverell. And so, the Cloak Of Invisibility came to be.

↷          ↷          ↷

While his brothers met horrid fates and were taken by Death easily, Ignotus was able to evade him despite Death's years of searching. He lived a long life where he most likely got married at some point leading to him having a son. At seventy seven years old after having lived his life, Ignotus died on 19th May 1292. Beedle The Bard's story states that by the time Ignotus had reached this age, he relieved himself of the cloak handing it down to his son where he then went on to greet Death as an old friend, departing his life with him as equals.

↷          ↷          ↷

The youngest Peverell's body was buried in the Parish Church Of St. Clementine's graveyard in his birthplace of Godric's Hollow alongside his brother's. Much like the Ressurection Stone that belonged to Cus, the Cloak Of Invisibility was handed down throughout Ignotus' own family.

Most of the infomation surrounding the Peverell brothers comes from Beedle The Bard's story. The Tale Of The Three Brothers would have been among those often read to wizarding children, most witches and wizards simply saw it as a made up story written for the purpose of teaching children morals. It is - quite obviously - based around the Deathly Hallows and also the Peverell brothers that each owned one of the three items.

↷          ↷          ↷

Antioch, Cus, and Ignotus all lived during the thirteenth century while Beedle The Bard lived in the fifteenth century with his works being written then. If the events he wrote about really did happen, how did he come to learn about it? He would not have been there to witness anything first hand and one generation if not more would have ed before he was even born. This long amount of time would surely have led to any kind of infomation being ed down between families to dilute and become mixed up with assumptions, as is with any information ed down between people.

↷          ↷          ↷

Everything Beedle The Bard depicted in his writings probably did not happen as he was writing a story after all, could it be based off real events? Definitely and it probably was, as we all know the Deathly Hallows do exist and the Peverell brothers were real people. Some parts of the tale are true, others though are debatable.

↷          ↷          ↷

The brothers for instance were said to have lived in the thirteenth century, Ignotus' granddaughter - Iolanthe Peverell - married the son of Lindfred 'The Potterer' Of Stinchcombe who was a wizard in the twelfth century meaning that the brothers existence in the thirteenth century would not have been possible.

↷          ↷          ↷

Albus Dumbledore had a theory about the Peverell's, he thought that opposed to Death gifting them each with a Deathly Hallow, that as they were each very talented wizards, they themselves managed to craft the Hallows. This is definitely a lot more logical and believable as even in the story the brothers were noted to be very talented, it would not be out of the realm of possibility for them to somehow have been able to each invent these objects for their own.

Wandmaking goes back to at least 382 B.C. so by the time the thirteenth century rolled around, it was definitely not in its infancy. Antioch Peverell with how he was described in the story, had been a very power hungry wizard and so it is not hard to imagine him seeking out ways to make the most powerful wand ever in existence. He definitely had the drive and reasoning to go about creating it.

↷          ↷          ↷

The core of the Elder Wand is made from thestral tail hair which is known for being very unstable in wandmaking and debatably the trickiest substance used for this craft. If it is to be believed that Antioch made the Elder Wand by himself, he would have needed to obtain this thestral tail hair which means he would have needed to whitness death take place - to be able to see thestrals. With him being "combative" in the story and easily killing a wizard, this does not seem completely out of the possibility for him either.

Possibly the most believable of the all the Hallows to have been created by a wizard, the Resurrection Stone quite literally just is a stone that holds immense magical ability. These powers are very strong, can we believe that Cus Peverell was able to forge this? Yes, I think so. His grief was palpable, a man driven deeply by it due to the loss of his beloved fiancé; her absent had deeply affected him. With the driving force of his feelings and the need to see her again, there is a very high possibility that matched with his magical abilities he would have been able to creat the stone. Within Beedle The Bard's story, he writes that Cus turns the stone thrice in hand in order to get it to work. If Death had given the stone to him, how would Cus of known to do this?

↷          ↷          ↷

The Ressurection Stone does not just let the holder see those who had died, but these spirits that are summoned have the power themselves to protect the from the influence of dark creatures such as dementors. Cus may have felt helpless when his fiancé died, wishing strongly that he could have protected her, leading to the magic he put into the stone being able to do this - protect, at least to a certian extent. The living are also able to draw some strength and comfort from these spirits which Cus may have felt when initially seeing the stones success.

↷          ↷          ↷

It however did not come out perfectly as the spirits would appear semi transparent and not solid almost like a reflection in water. They would additionally not be visible forever, only as long as someone was holding the stone making it an only a part way success.

↷          ↷          ↷

The Deathly Hallows symbol is also engraved onto the stone meaning that whoever put it there knew of the other Hallows too. It could not have been Death if he really did make the Hallows, as the stone was created before Ignotus had even asked for his reward - Death would not have known what he would ask for: it is hard to imagine Death creating the symbol and placing it onto the stone in the first place. If it was Cus, it shows that he knew of his brothers creations or that they all worked on them together, him adding the symbol onto the stone would show his iration for them and their work too.

Invisibility cloaks do exist within the more modern wizarding world, these are made either out of demiguise hair or by simply enchanting a normal cloak. These however are known to fade quite badly overtime and are not immune to spells, the Cloak Of Invisibility that is part of the Hallows, is different from these. It has never worn out in over 700 years and it is able to protect whoever is using it from spells which, in turn have not hindered the cloaks ability in anyway. It being immune to so much magic for long would mean that it was either made out of an entirely different material, or that the spells on it would of had to be extremely powerful both for its strength and longevity.

↷          ↷          ↷

Within the magical children's story, Ignotus was noted to be wise, alluding to him having a great knowledge of certian things that may have led to him knowing how to product the Cloak Of Invisibility and how to preserve its magic. The only issue I have with this theory is the 'why' factor, both of the other Peverell brothers had their reasons for creating their Hallows, but Ignotus did not. Of course we do not know everything about either of the three brothers as they all would have had more qualities than told in the story, but lacking the knowledge of why Ignotus would create the cloak is the only thing making me question if he really did.

UM HELLO?!?

You are literally so talented. I am so glad that someone did something on The Peverell Brothers. You did so well on this, so much research that I’m sure had taken you awhile just to get an the information you wanted to fit into this. You even added in the three things: Elder Wand, Resurrection stone and the Invisibility cloak. So AMAZING DARLING DEAREST!

*Chefs kiss* 🤌🏻

P.S. I cannot wait for the second part, I am most interested in the stuff you’ve made in your blogs because they’re something that many don’t really go into, nor seem to care too? When, it is one of the main, biggest things in the movies/books. Etc.

Please. Feature this if it hasn’t already been~

YOu aRe TooOoooO SweET!! Thank you so much, yes I spent a while load of time researching for this and I honestly did just get carried away. I think that they are the three most fundamental Harry Potter characters and you'll see why in my post tomorrow but when you realise just how much links back to the e.g. people and objects, it is hard to imagine the Wizarding World without them!

Thank you so much darling ~
