It’s annoying that there are hamster owners out there that don’t know how to care for their hamsters properly or just don’t even care to learn. They either use small cages, tiny wheels or wheels that are wire or mesh, hamster balls, or awful bedding, or even do all of those. Then once people call them out on it even in a nice way to try to encourage them to upgrade their hamsters care they get all defensive like “will my hamster loves his/her cage and loves his/her hamster ball” like how to they know? Do they speak hamster? Did the hamster say that to them? I hope that someday this is less common, but I feel like I see people like that the most on Facebook hamster groups or on TicTok. There are two types of pet owners out there, the uneducated and neglectful/abusive ones and the ones that would want the best for their pets and would update their pets care even if they made a few mistakes along the way. It also doesn’t help that most pet stores continue sell bad hamster products and give out misinformation about hamster care, I know it happens to other kinds of pets like fish and birds and reptiles but hamsters are one of the most common pets out there that is seen as and is treated as a children’s toy instead of a living creature. It’s the 21st century and we still be having these problems. 🤦

this!!! my sister had a bad cage for Dipsy, but i convinced her to get a bincage and deep bedding. but she still used a small wheel and the cage didn't have enough airflow. but one day she decided to give up on Dipsy and give him to me, i immediately changed everything she did wrong and made sure he had a happy life with me 🫶

Also if you don’t have a dry bath tub or don’t have money for a playpen you can always D.I.Y a playpen using duck tape and cardboard, you can also do something similar to hamster proof a room by blocking off spaces under furniture and gaps under doors and electrical cords. And if you do use those methods just make sure any other pets in the house are in a different room behind closed doors. I heard to many stories of hamsters getting attacked by other household pets like cats and dogs.
