floor time is a very important part of a guinea pigs life. They also love to have so much space to run around. It also helps burn extra calories and make sure they don’t become obese. You should have floor time for at least 3 times per week for one hour, but daily floor time is the most ideal.

first you need a safe room to set in up in. If you have animals make sure you can keep them out or in a room. You can put down a blanket, puppy pads, or fleece. If its hard wood floor, I wouldn’t let them walk on it beaches it will most likely frighten them (and their probably ruin it lol). You shouldn’t have any tight squeezing furniture around that they can hide under so they wont get stuck or hard to reach. You can also use a play pen if you don’t have a room you can dedicate. You can also buy a ex-pen or play per, but ex-pens are typically bigger. Also they may eat the carpet if you have carpets they will also most likely pee and poop on it.

piggy proof your house like your baby proofing it.
list if things to piggy proof:
any cords or wires
peeling wallpaper or paint
anything on the ground you should pick up
any furniture they can squeeze under
anything they can chew by putting their paws up
house plants
and many more. Even though they might not be big chewer two seconds later they could be chewing a plugged in cord.

here are the necessary items for floor time. For outside we’re gonna at it summer time
for both outside and inside:
•piggy safe area
•water bottle
•hides per piggy
•hay (if out for longer than a hour)
outside:
•ice pack (if its very hot)
•shade

let them do play time when they want to. Open the cage door or make a ramp if they’re above above the ground. If they come out then let floor time start! If you can not make a ramp take them out when they seem the most active. If they seem sleepy or not very active then most likely wouldn’t enjoy it as much.

if your trying to chase them to pick them up and out of they cage for floor time, DON’T do it. Instead put a tunnel in their cage and pick the tunnel with them in it make sure they cant jump out. You can also try putting them in a corner then scooping them up.

if the piggy is unsure included some hides. Maybe even put a tunnel at their door so they don’t feel there is a giant space where anything can capture them. I would say at least one hide per piggy and its better to have multiple entrances. If you’re using a ramp put a towel on top so they can feel safe while going down. Some piggies on what they put their feet on. I recommend putting fleece down, but old clean blankets or towels work. Puppy pads are also a great option.
