I thought this might be fun, so let’s give it a shot.
If you have a five (5) gallon water jug and a three (3) gallon water jug, how do you fill the five (5) gallon jug with exactly four (4) gallons of water?

I’ll like all of your posts, if you’re the first person to explain how to do it correctly.

Note: I’m doing this little exercise on the honor system, so DO NOT Google it!
Edit: I’m looking for a very specific method. Be sure to outline your steps thoroughly.

I’ve done my spam likes
Take the 5 gallon jug and fill that. Pour from the 5 gallon jug into the 3 gallon jug so you fill the 3 gallon jug.
You now have 3 gallons full and 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug.
Empty the 3 gallon jug and transfer from the 5 gallon jug to the 3 gallon jug.
You now have 2 gallons in the 3 gallon jug and the empty 5 gallon jug.
Now fill the 5 gallon jug. Finally, pour from the 5 gallon jug so you fill the 3 gallon jug, which goes from 2 gallons to 3. Now you should be left with 4 gallons in the 5 gallon jug :sunglasses:
I got super serious with this and figured it out on a sticky note...
:sparkles: Okay, new method :sparkles:
Step 1. Fill up the 5 gallon jug using the 3 gallon jug. It will take two trips and leave one gallon inside.
Step 2. Pour out the contents of the 5 gallon jug, and replace it with the one gallon from the 3 gallon jug.
Step 3. Fill up the 3 gallon jug completely and pour it into the 5 gallon jug for a total of four gallons.
If you put the 3 gallon jug into the 5 gallon jug, then fill up the space between the two. Take out the 3 gallon jug and fill it with the contents of the 5 gallon jug (it should be 2 gallons worth). Repeat the process by placing the 3 gallon jug into the 5 gallon jug, fill up the difference with water, but this time leave it there. Pour the two gallons from the 3 gallon jug into the 5 gallon jug. The total should be 4 gallons of water in a 5 gallon jug. :sparkles: :sparkles: :sparkles:

Question: Do I have tools to cut the jugs precisely, if necessary?

Nope.
Ok ok. I'll first fill the 5 gallon jug upto the brim. Now I'll pour this water into the 3 gallon jug. I have 2 gallons in the 5 gallon jug now. I'll keep this water safe with me. Now i I'll repeat this process and I'll have 2 gallons more. I'll conbine 2 and 2 gallons. So I have 4 gallons with me. Idk lol
