What's up Garage Amino!?
It's been a hot minute since I've posted any type of content so I figured it was time for a Garage update, especially since we added another car to our Fleet.
A 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL
My twin sister purchased this car from a family member back in July. It had just over 103k miles on it and it's in MINT condition!! Just take a look for yourselves:

The interior:
Is fully loaded with every option including leather, power everything, Bose audio system, navigation, touchscreen infotainment screen, a sun roof & of course heated seats. This car is just plain NICE!!

Under the hood:
Is the 2.5L 4banger paired with the *SIGH* CVT :pensive: now this may seem like a tragedy but it's not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Torque feels almost instant & it drives smooth as butter; perfect for my sister. Plus the gas mileage is FANTASTIC!! 25mpg around town and close to 35mpg on the highway.

Overall this vehicle has impressed me so far in all aspects from driving dynamics to overall quality. Hopefully it'll serve my sister well for years to come, as it should with regular preventive maintenance.

Recently she had a CEL pop up with the code P0101, which came up as a Mass airflow sensor from my research. So I immediately hopped on it getting her a new MAF & Air filter figuring I'd replace that while I was there. I also did an oil & oil filter change while I had the car in my hands.

10 minutes later I had the new MAF & Air filter installed and the CEL went away on it's own (I love simple fixes). Now she's cruising down the road again with no issues as she should for a while.

Until next time guys... Thanks for reading & as always keep your eyes open for updates on my Maxima coming soon!!

I'm glad my car didn't come with a CVT luckily it had the 6spd option tho upon research the 6spd has more problems than the CVT used in the ford five hundred
Oh yes, my dad has a Mercury Montego (same as the 500) and I've heard horror stories of both transmissions. He's had to put about $500 into it for maintenance recently but the 6spd auto transmission hasn't given him a single problem.
I'm personally just not a fan of CVT's. Yeah they make for a smooth ride and seemingly faster acceleration but it just doesn't feel like a car should. I want to feel it shifting and hear the engine change tones in between gears. With a CVT all you hear is the engine going up in RPM with slight noise change & the tachometer moving slightly as if to simulate shifts.
Nice, reliable car. It’s good to see you post Issac! And you’re sis is going with Nissan like you. Just make sure the car is idling correctly sometimes with a maf it’ll require an idle relearn. Otherwise that car will be on the road for a while. I see a lot of those models with over 200k.
Yeah man it's been a long time and a lot has happened. Altima's have always been super reliable & I believe this one should too. Haha I was kind of biased when suggesting she purchase this car, but in reality Nissan's are reliable cars.
Oh yeah, I drove the car a bit after replacing the MAF & my sister even took it on a couple hundred mile trip with no issues.
Hey thats a nice Altima! Even though personally I'm not a fan of them they can be good cars if the CVTs don't grenade.

Thats good yea all the 2.5s around me a are rental spec or beat to hell and back. The leather and all looks fantastic tho.
It can't be worse than my sister's 2010 Malibu(Malipoo) its had 3 transmissions in 50k miles. One while the original old couple had it. They never mentioned it being replaced so we think the dealer pulled some wool over their eyes. It ate the second one about 4 days after I totalled the accord while I was driving it. This one is an upgraded unit so hopefully it doesnt break

Oof that's no good!! Sounds like a lemon to me. I've heard of some Nissan's having the CVT go out after 15k miles and then I've seen some last for over 200k miles. It's really hit or miss with them, also depends on how the car is driven & how the transmission has been maintained.

Yea its def a lemon but the second trans wasnt even a new replacement it was used when put in or at least looked that way. It was still cheaper to do a warrentied tranny than buy a new car tho
That is clean! Not many things, for me, beat the feeling of getting a car that’s been well taken care of.
Funny how you call it a fleet. When I got the Tundra, few weeks ago, I was looking at all three of my cars, thinking “Look at my fleet!”
Thanks!! You've got that right, it just makes you feel so much better about a car purchase when you know it's been taken care of and maintained properly.
Haha well my family does kind of have a fleet. Dad has his Montego, Mom has her Grand Caravan, I've got my Maxima & now my sister has her Altima. That's a lot of cars in one driveway.

Dude, before I moved out of my parent’s house, we had 8 cars at one point. Now I have 3 of my own at home, plus a motorcycle, and another car in storage in CA, plus my wife’s car here

WOW, you've really got yourself a fleet!! I'll be moving out soon so that'll take 1 car out of the driveway & then I guess I'll just have to fill my own driveway with cars. :joy:
Glad to hear the cvt is holding up, especially with that many miles. I’ve heard nothing but garbage about the Jatco transmissions that Nissan has been using
I almost advised her to not purchase the car because of the dreaded CVT & all the horror stories I've heard. However being owned by family, I know it's been taken care of and a stack of maintenance records came with the car. The CVT fluid has been changed every 30k miles as advised by Nissan.
I also think these transmissions are hit and miss. I've heard of some crapping out after 30k miles and I've seen some still holding on strong at 200k miles. So we'll keep maintenance up as it should and hopefully it'll hold on for as long as she has the car.

Smart! Baby that thing and hopefully it will take care of your her for many more miles.
