Challenge Event - A New Hero Record

Hello FF Amino! Minh here!

Today I bring you one part in a series of challenges based on the mobile games. This challenge is the Record Keeper portion of the series. Let's jump straight into it, shall we?

Your Task!

Dr. Mog has entrusted each of you in deciphering an ancient hero record written in a language he doesn't understand, and it's up to you to detail the contents of said hero record, including abilities they can use and soul breaks that are unique to them.

Never played FFRK? Fear not! I've done my best to design this challenge to be doable for everyone.

Your Hero Record must include!

- A selection of soul breaks unique to the character (including an Arcane, Ultra, and Burst soul break. Overstrike, unique, and super soul breaks are optional.)

- 2 Legend Materia for the character and at least one Legend Materia Relic for the character

- A list of record materia unlocked by levelling the character up (one for each milestone at level 50, 65, 80, and 99)

- Abilities and Equipment types the characters have access to

What the heck is a soul break?

A soul break is a special powerful ability that has a big opener and provides bonus effects to the character after they are complete. They are divided into certain categories.

Arcane Overstrike Soul Break

Arcane Overtstrike Soul Breaks (often denoted as AOSB or ASB,) are extremely powerful attacks that are meant to do lots of damage in one go. They typically have 3 large, damage cap breaking hits, or 20 normal attacks leading into one large damage cap breaking attack. They are usually used as finishers and can only be used once per dungeon.

Example - Maria's Arcane Soul Break, Meteor Shower LXIV

Deal three massive magic earth attacks that can break the damage cap to one target.

Ultra Soul Breaks

Ultra Soul Breaks are usually your bread and butter soul breaks that use their bonus effects to give considerable amounts of damage potential to the character using them, buff the party's stats/actions, or heal them. They typically have four effects. These are the soul breaks most teams are built around, and are often written as USB for short.

Example: Tidus's Ultra Soul Break, Day to

Deal ten ranged physical water and non elemental attacks to one target, infuse the with the power of water, remove delay from the 's actions for one turn, and enter Ace EX mode. Ace EX mode causes the 's water abilities to trigger the follow up ability Run & Shoot, which deals 5 water and non elemental attacks to one target.

Example 2: Onion Knight's Ultra Soul Break, Forbidden Wisdom

Raise the party's magic, mine, and resistance by a moderate amount, grant Haste to all allies, reduce delay of all allies magic attacks for three turns, and enter Sage EX mode. While in Sage EX mode, the 's Black Magic abilities do 15% more damage.

Example 3: Aerith's Ultra Soul Break, Innocent Cure

Instantly restore a large amount of HP to all allies, grant them Last Stand (allows them to survive one attack with low hp that would have KO'd them,) and reduce delay of their physical attacks for 3 turns.

Burst Soul Breaks

Burst Soul Breaks are a unique kind of soul break that opens with a large attack, then replaces their Attack and Defend commands with abilities that have infinite uses. These can be used for healing or offense, and are often written as BSB for short.

Example - Squall's Burst Soul Break, Steely Blade

Deal 8 physical ice attacks to one target, infuse the with the power of ice, and grant Haste and Burst Mode to the .

Burst Command 1 (goes in the attack slot) - Draw and Junction

Deal 2 physical ice attacks to one target, and raise the 's junction level by 1.

Burst Command 2 (goes in the defend slot) - Löwen Roar

Deal 4 to 7 physical ice attacks to one target, depending on the 's junction level.

Example 2 - Iris's Burst Soul Break, Kupo Cure

Restore a large amount of HP to all allies, grant them a barrier that negates damage equal to 30% of their HP, a barrier that allows them to avoid one debuff, and grant Haste and Burst mode to the .

Command 1 - Pocket Elixir

Instantly restore a large amount of HP to 1 ally.

Command 2 - Pocket Potion

Restore a small amount of HP to all allies.

All this soul break stuff is neat but... What the heck is a legend materia relic?

I'm glad you asked! Legend Materia is unlocked by spending motes to unlock a characters hidden potential via Record Spheres. Legend Materia is also character specific.

Bartz's Legend Materia

Legend Materia 1, Tempered Spellblade, causes Spellblade abilities to do a small amount of bonus damage.

Legend Materia 2, Twinstrike Champion, gives Spellblade abilities a small chance to trigger twice.

Legend Materia is different from Legend Materia Relics. Legend Materia Relics can be scored off relic draws, and is often more powerful than legend materia obtained through Record Spheres. Bartz's Legend Materia Relic, or LMR for short, gives his Spellblade abilities a very small chance to trigger three times.

And what about Record Materia?

Record Materia is a version of legend materia that, while slightly weaker, can still be very powerful, resulting in various effects such as the Attack command becoming an ability or causing abilities and attacks that hit an enemy weakness to do bonus damage. Tidus's Record Materia 3, Dreamguide, increases water damage dealt by 30%. Unlike Legend Materia, Record Materia is not character specific.

Awesome! And finally, what are the ability schools?

Here's a quick rundown of each ability school and what they do.

White Magic - Healing magic, with a mix of DPS. Notable healers include Eiko and Aerith, white magic DPS characters include Rem and Minwu.

Black Magic - DPS magic. Notable black mages include Terra and Rinoa.

Combat - Combat includes physical damage abilities that, under the right circumstances, can do massive amounts of damage. Notable s include Noctis and Cloud.

Spellblade - Elemental abilities that hit multiple times. Notable s include Squall and Bartz.

- Abilities that aid the party's ability to deal damage, ranging from giving them gauge to use soul breaks from reducing enemy stats. s include Shelke and Faris.

Dragoon - Abilities that wind up in the air for a short time, then unload large amounts of damage on an enemy. s include Kain and Luneth.

Thief and Celerity - Abilities that do damage with a shorter cast time. s include Lightning and Zidane.

Bard - Abilities that buff the party. Notable s include Edward and Elarra.

Sharpshooter - DPS abilities that do more damage with ranged weapons. Notable s include Noel and Tidus.

Knight - DPS abilities focused around raising/lowering stats as a trade-off for more damage. Notable s include Marche and Orlandeau.

Heavy Combat - abilities that take time to charge up, then unload it all into one massive attack. Notable s include Cynque and Gabranth.

Ninja - abilities focused around stacking Mirror Image to deal lots of hits in one go. s include Yuffie and Edge.

Witch - A subset of black magic, these abilities have a much larger cast time and trade off for more damage and hits. s include Shantotto and Edea.
