Hello, all! Well, the first of the August Writing Challenges has ended, and it’s time to announce the winners. Instead of just naming the winner and moving on, I want to go over why each story earned the place it received, so let’s get on with it.
2nd Place Winner: Fading Light
Explanation
I want to start off by saying this was an awesome entry, and I had a great time reading it. Everything in the story felt like it belonged, there didn’t seem like there was much filler (at least to me), which I think is very important. The dialogue and character motivation was another great aspect. The plot was well-Done and the pacing seemed great. Aside from a few minor spelling errors I noticed, I didn’t see much that I didn’t like about the story. All in all, excellent work!
1st Place Winner: J. TranterKneath
Explanation:
This was a very well-written entry, and I loved reading it! I liked the plot, the pacing, and the characters. What I especially loved was the twist at the end. I thought it was a great way to end the story. It was an enjoyable read and I would definitely like to see another part to this story at some point.
Congratulations to both of our winners, you both did really well! Now, for this week’s prompt, I’ve decided to give you a small bit of dialogue that I want you to include. Incorporate it however you wish, wrote whatever you wish, so long as it meets the [Guidelines]. The rules and dialogue can be found below.
Prompt:
“Whose sword was this? Your father’s?”
“No, it was my brother’s. He called it ‘_____’.”
For this challenge, you will need to come up with a name for the sword to fill in the blank. Be creative! That is, after all, what this challenge is about. Have fun, write the story in any way you please, give the sword any abilities you want. Just don’t violate the [Guidelines]. All entries should be at least 3 paragraphs long and should contain the quotes above. Tag your entries with #AWC2 so I can find them easily. Have fun, and have a great weekend. You all have one week to get your stories in.
