Why Geldings Are Super Awesome

Hey hey hey, EA! Welcome back to another post! Today we are going to look at a few reasons why geldings are super awesome! I did this with mares a couple weeks ago, which you can find here, now it’s the geldings’ time to shine! Let’s get started!

Now, personally, I’m a mare kinda gal, but that doesn’t mean I don’t love geldings too! If have been following me for awhile, you probably know that I own two mares and a gelding, so I have spent some time comparing the two. Some things that I’ve noticed combined with some research, I’ve come up with a few reasons why geldings are super awesome!

For starters, geldings are known to be a lot calmer and laid back than mares, this makes them perfect for kids and beginner riders. While there are a lot of laid back mares out there, a gelding is a more safer bet when it comes to finding a relaxed horse.

Another reason why geldings are great, is because they have no heat cycle. Unlike mares, geldings don’t have a heat cycle. This means that they don’t get hormones such as mood swings, which makes them more cooperative and willing to please, despite what time it is.

Geldings are also known to have big personalities, anywhere from being a goofball to a lazy little lad, you will never be bored with a gelding. Their personalities allow them to bring smiles to people’s faces, and connect with owners and riders.

Geldings have proven to be more tolerant than mares as well. If you annoy a mare, most of the time she will do something even more annoying back. Geldings however, will pretty much let you do whatever with them, making them better horses for new riders to learn on.

My last reason for today, is geldings aren’t as protective over personal space. A mare’s natural instinct is to defend herself, as in the wild mares have to fed off stallions and predators. This instinct in a gelding isn’t as dominant.
