Lilo & Stitch 2025 Film SPOILER FILLED Review

With the Snow White remake getting alot of the press and attention from Disney you might be forgiven for forgetting that Disney actually had another live action remake out. With that film not only just being released but also actually being good and watchable and the fact that Disney has barely been talking about this movie at least not on the same scale that they did the Snow White remake it makes it look like that they put all of their eggs into one basket and so then me as I give you my SPOILER FILLED review of the film that does prove that these live action remakes can actually be pretty decent provided that they hire people that are actually fans of the source material to work on them with the film in question being called simply just "Lilo & Stitch" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when an alien crash lands on Earth he befriends a local girl named Lilo with the two of them having to make sure that he doesn't get captured by people who want to capture him. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually feature / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as even tho this films plot is pretty much the exact same plot as the original which is and always will be a bad thing when it comes to these live action remakes the film does at the very least try to add new things to it that make it seem fresh and new again which does make it seem like that the makers of this film were not only fans of the original film but also knew that the live action remakes have a problem and so instead of just copying the original films plot beat for beat they try to add in new things and while that is a good thing to do as it now gives this film more of recent to exist in the first place they also do copy certain bits of the original films plot only now due to the changes that they make to it those elements either just straight up don't work or don't work as well as they perhaps should have done with this being something that does effect the films plot all throughout it's running time as while yes it is still a really good plot in it's own right it's also a plot that really could have been alot more better then what it ultimately ended up being with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Maia Kealoha as Lilo Pelekai , Chris Sanders as The Voice Of Stitch and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani Pelekai. Also starring in this film is Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba , Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley , Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles , Hannah Waddingham as The Voice Of The Grand Councilwoman , Kaipo Dudoit as David Kawena , Tia Carrere as Mrs. Kekoa , Amy Hill as Tūtū and Jason Scott Lee as A lūʻau Manager.

Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty alot more better then what it really had any right to be. As given the fact that alot of this films actors are made up of mostly unknown actors it would have been foolish to expect good or even great acting from this film and yet that's exactly what we get with all of this films actors turning in some really good performances which to be fair was to be expected from Chris Sanders as he not only created the character of Stitch but has also voiced the character over various films and TV shows and while he's not the only actor from the original film to be cast in this film he is the only actor from the original film to reprise their role from the original film in this film and while he is good in this film the best actor has to be Maia Kealoha who to be frank is simply a joy to watch a Lilo as she not only captures the spirit of the original character but she also adds her own flair to it by having Lilo actually act like kid at times and it's moments like that that do make her performance in this film truly stand out but it' not all good on the acting from tho as both Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen are woefully miscast in this film not that there bad in this film because there really not it's just that there not all that good either with it being hard to buy them as these characters with the acting that's in this fil really being helped by the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a good performance will come out of them naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Double Negative , Industrial Light & Magic , Legacy Effects , Moving Picture Company and Sony Pictures Imageworks. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as this fil does have some really impressive looking effects in it but at the same time the film really doesn't take the time to show of those effects thus making them feel pointless as while yes the only way that you could do the characters like the aliens for example is in CGI we still want to see all of the unique designs for those characters as alot of them do look like really fun character designs but the film barely spends anytime focusing on those characters for one reason or another and while the film does stick rather closely to the character designs for the characters that did make the cut it is still odd to see these rather cartoonish looking characters appearing in the real world and while granted they don't look as bad as Pinocchio as you can see all of the effort that went into creating them there is still something about them that does make them look cheap like the film didn't have that big of an effects budget and so the makers of the film were forced to cut corners somewhere in regards to the films effects and that is something that does make them have an air of cheapness to them when they really should look like that they belong in a theatrically released film and not something that would be more at home on Disney+ or some other streaming service as that's just how cheap looking that this films CGI effects do look alot of the time.

SPOILERS START HERE!!!!!!!!!!

This was hinted at earlier on this review but yah this film makes alot of changes to the plot of the film like for starters Nani instead of being a stay at home sister to Lilo now has dreams to go on a Marine Biology course. Which isn't a bad change but one of the more odd changes is the fact that they split up the Cobra Bubbles character ad the Social Worker character which is something that just doesn't work in the slightest as at the start of the original film we got to see how Nani acts under pressure when she's racing to get home to see Lilo when she bumps into the car of The Social Worker who we later learn is Cobra Bubbles a CIA operative but because of the fact that there now two completely different characters that fun little exchange doesn't happen which is pointless as it's something that does show how this character might act under pressure which granted is a pointless scene it's also a pretty funny scene and one that the people who loved the original film would have liked to see done in live action and heck even how Lilo causes the school accident is now changed for no good reason as instead of getting accidentally getting water all other stage she now deliberately pushes a girl over which does nothing but make Lilo look like a bad person as the girl had done nothing to her other then tell her to move out f her way where in the original it was a complete and total accident and it therefor still made Lilo look like a character who whilst she can be clumsy at times is still a good girl at heart and while these changes are indeed small changes they are ones that make you wonder why they were changed in the first place as the scene with Nani gives us a good idea of who her character is and the scene with Lilo shows us who her character is as well and since both of those scenes are now gone in this version of the film those aspects of the characters are also gone as well.

However the worst change that the makers of this film really could have made is the fat that they straight up removed Captain Gantu from the story. With alot of his scenes early on instead being given to The Grand Councilwoman and while not having him be apart of the film early on might not be seen as a bad thing it becomes a bad thing later on in the film when they straight up make Jumba the films main villain which is something that makes no sense as that's not within his character to do these evil things as while yes granted granted he does refer to himself a being an evil genius he's also a loveable doofus type of character as well as someone who has a good heart he just doesn't know how to use his smarts in ways that will actually help people and yet because of the fact that this film removed Gantu from the film and they need a villain for the films third act they instead turn someone who wasn't a villain in the original film into the films main villain in this film which is not only going to make the people who love the original film pretty angry but it will also confuse kids as well as changes are they will then ask there parents to show them the original film expecting it to be like this film only now they have this truly evil character as the main villain and not the person that they know to be the main villain in Jumba and yet film still has him act the exact same way as he did in the original film even down to him cracking jokes alot of the time with Pleakley which makes the idea of Jumba being the films main villain feel like it wasn't thought out all that well as if the makers of this film who are quite clearly fans of this franchise wanted him to be the main villain then it would mean having to do a complete personality shift and not have him be the exact same character as all that does is make it harder to him as he's telling jokes alot of the time that's he on screen.

The one thing that both this film and the original film got right was the focus on the bond between Nani and Lilo. As in this film we see all throughout the film not only how much that they both mean to one another but also just how far that one is willing to go to please the other something that we also get to see in the original film as well with the two of them having some rather tender and sweet moments together in both of thee films as well with the only two major changes that made to their relationship in this film is the fact that unlike in the original where there parents had only just recently been killed here it's something that's happened some time ago and unlike in the original film Nani actually does give up Lilo to be adopted with there neighbor Tūtū being the one to adopt Lilo and while this might be seen as being a bad thing it's really not as its something that Lilo herself actively says that she wants as that would then allow Nani to go on her Marine Biology course and not have to worry about Lilo as she would only be next door and while the theme of family is still handled quite strong in this film it's a theme that's handled all the more better in the original film as here they hit you over the head with what Ohana means quite alot of the time and so when they Nani and Lilo finally say it to each other near the end of the film in a more quieter moment it looses alot of that emotional gut punch that something like that should have had just because of the fact that it's something that they keep on mentioning all throughout the film and while the relationship between both Lilo and Nani is really well developed as the two of them do have some really chemistry together it still would have been nice if we actually saw them act like real sister alot more of the time as that was something that made there relationship in the original film feel alot more real where as here it losses that believability factor to it alot of the time as they instead come across as fake and false.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly one hour and thirty six minuets and twenty seven seconds. Which to be fair to this film is pretty much the exact grand total running time that you'd expect this film to have with this film even having the right amount of plot there to really cover that amount of running time but the issue is tho is that this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely as the plot of the film isn't as fully developed as it really could have been and neither are alot of the films characters with this films being about eleven minuets longer then the original film and yet because of the fact that the film is alot more focused on just speeding throw plot points it doesn't take the time that it needed and had to fully develop the films plot with it seeming like that things are just happening for no apparent reason alot of the time with even the films characters no being that well developed as while David had no personality in the original film he gets no personality as well in this film other then the fact that he finds Nani attractive and that's really it with this even effecting the fact that Jumba is the films main villain as there's no build up to it whatever with it just coming out of nowhere and yet if there was some build up to it yes it still wouldn't make sense just due to who Jumba is as a character it would still be better handled then how it is in the final cut of the film and heck the film even speeds through the entire opening of the original movie as Stitch's trial at the start of the first movie which took about a good ten minuets of that films running time here is done in less then five minuets which means that it can't be as good as it was in the first film because of the fact that the film is just speeding through alot of plot points and it's like that all throughout the film but I really will it that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is a comedy that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual comedy that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad. With the film having alot of really funny moments in it be it Stitch causing havoc on what might be a wedding reception when he first comes to earth or one of the various scenes of Jumba and Pleakley trying and failing to capture Stitch bottom line here is that there are alot of really good jokes to be found in this very film with the best joke in this film being one the more simpler ones as when Nani is driving Lilo and Stitch to work in her car Stitch just takes out the CD there listening to and throws it out of the back window which yes granted is a pointless and possibly childish type of joke but it still was a quite funny joke for this film to make and one that does feel quite in character for Stitch as a character as well and while we do get a recreation of the scene of Nani coaching Lilo on what to say to The Social Worker only for Lilo to mess it up here it just doesn't work quite as well as while it is a really good joke and is still pretty funny in this film what made that joke work really well in the original was alot of Nani's exaggerated facial expressions something that can't be done in live action which is something that does make the joke with Stich throwing the CD out of Nani's car be the best joke in the movie as it was a joke that felt totally in character for Stitch as well as it being a genuinely funny and cute joke to have in this very film as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall for a film that was due to be released direct to Disney+ and for a live action remake of a beloved animated feature length film this film is alot more better then what it had any right to be as by all rights this films should be dead on arrival and yet because they hired people who actually have respect and love and care for the Lilo & Stitch franchise we instead end up with a film that really is actually a pretty good film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now the i've talked about all of the good and as well aa all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really des mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly a 7 out of 10 from me.
