The Avengers 2012 AKA Avengers Assemble Film Review

Team up movies are nothing new as are Cinematic Universes with every studio under the sun trying to kick start there own cinematic universe. Well the ones that while they didn't do it first certainly did it the best was marvel with there first Phase ending with the very film that i'm going to be talking to you all about today and so then me as I review the film that has the exact same title as both a film from 1998 and the TV show that that film is based off of with the film in question being called simply just "The Avengers" enjoy.

The plot of this film is when Loki teams up with a band of Alien soldiers known as Chitauri try to take over the world with the aid of an object called The Tesseract it's up to Captain America , Iron Man , Thor , Black Widow , Hawkeye and The Hulk with the aid of S.H.I.E.L.D. to stop him before it's far to late. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual plot that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty not that bad as it did a good job of bringing together all of these characters from all of these various movies in a way that felt natural and true to there respective characters with it being helped by the fact that this films plot is also a really fun plot and isn't really afraid to be exactly what it is and that's a comic book movie something which alot of films even the more later MCU movies are afraid to be as this a plot that not only ties together several characters from several movies really well but also several plot lines from those movies as well as we get to see Captain America struggle to get used to modern day life and the relationship between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts get some development as well with the plot of this film also being one that whilst it isn't creative by today's standards as Loki's big main weapon for brining this army to earth is a portal in the sky for the time that this film was made in it was a pretty creative and still is a pretty fu filled plot that might still please new and younger fans of the MCU with the plot of this film also being really rather entertaining and as well as being really rather engaging as well in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Starring in this film is Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man and Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America. Also starring in this film is Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk , Chris Hemsworth as Thor , Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow , Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye , Tom Hiddleston as Loki , Stellan Skarsgård as Erik Selvig , Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson , Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill , Paul Bettany as J.A.R.V.I.S. , Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts , Maximiliano Hernández as Jasper Sitwell , Alexis Denisof as The Other and Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury.

Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual acting that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. Which is something that's to be expected from the MCU films at this point in time as pretty much all of them had some really good acting in them with alot of those actors also reprising their respective roles for this film as well and heck even Scarlett Johansson who had only played the role Natasha Romanoff once before this film really does slip right back into character pretty much right away even this film newer actors like Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders not only turn in some really good performances in their right but also hold up really well when compared to acting against the actors who have been in more then one MCU movie which is pretty much just Robert Downey Jr. and a few others with all of them having just played their roles for one other movie before this film came out and yet they all turn in some really good performances that really do show us just why they became so well known for playing these respective characters as they are all just so good as these characters with the acting that's in this very film really being helped buy the fact that this films script is just so good that all this films actors have to do is just say the lines as they are written and a a good performance will come out of them more naturally which is something that really does help to raise the overall quality of the acting that's in this very film.

Doing the CGI for this film is Cantina Creative , Digital Domain , Evil Eye Pictures , Fuel VFX , Hydraulx , Industrial Light & Magic , Kidz Korner Studio , Lidar Services , Lola Visual Effects , Luma Pictures , Modus Fx , New Deal Studios , Perception , Scanline VFX , Stereo D , The Base Studio , The M Group , Whiskytree and Wētā FX. Now then in of what I personally thought / felt about the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally though / felt that the actual CGI that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good even for effects that are now well over ten years old which was quite impressive as CGI effects do age rather quickly as is the case with this films version of The Hulk who does look ten times better in the very next Avengers movie and while this film does have some really good effects in it which is something that's to be expected once you take into just who it is that's doing the effects for this movie at the same time tho there some some effects that don't like look as good like the already mentioned Hulk but we also have characters like Thanos and Chitauri who due to no fault of their own don't look as good as they perhaps could have done or in the case of Thanos look as good as they do in later movies but with that being said the film on the whole does have some rather good looking VFX that more then hold up to today's standards for the most part and do look like that they could be the effects for a decently budgeted film that was being released this year as that's how good this films effects really do look.

As was mentioned at the very start of this film this film does also share the title with not only a 1998 British film but also the nineteen sixties TV show that the 1998 film was based off of. With this film being Avengers Assembled over here in the UK which is a title that now gets really confusing when you take into that there's also an animated show from Marvel and Disney that also uses that exact same title which now means that us British folk not only have to clarify what film we're talking about by adding the year to any post that we make about the film but we also have to clarify what piece of media that we're talking about as well with being something that very easily could have been avoided if this film just dropped the "The" part of the title and just went by the name Avengers as there's nothing that just goes by that title which would have made it very easy for alot of people to not only tell what film it is that your talking about but also what piece of media that your talking about as well and heck it would have stuck very closely to the original naming scheme for these Phase One movies of being named almost directly after the comics that there based off of as while yes granted this film is more based off of Ultimate Avengers the fact remains that just calling it Avengers would be the more better title for the film but at the same time tho also calling it The Avengers works really well as well as again that name sticks to how they were naming things for alot of the Phase One movie by having the name by directly based off of the name of the comics that there adapting as for the name of the cartoon that really should have been called The Avengers Assemble as that's the more snappier title but because that show is more focused on copying the MCU even down to using the exact same poster and title from it now also gets the exact title as this movie did in some countries as well.

Taking what later happens in the MCU into there is one burning question that now needs to arise and that is where was Captain Marvel. As she does have an excuse for not being earth during the events of Avengers: Infinity War as she was bust helping out others worlds that also got snapped but here in this film at this point in the time line she would have been able to help earth out as the threat was an Alien one and while her not being in this film is knock against either film it is however a good example of just how poorly thought out her film was as setting in the nineties now begs the question of why she didn't appear to help out during these major events. With this film having a more major issue in the fact that whilst Loki was built up as being a very good villain in Thor in this film he's not really that good of villain as while he does manage to get inside all of the The Avengers heads even to the point where the group starts in-fighting none of that feels like that it was his doing as all he was doing in those scenes was playing off of things that were already present in the first place where as given the fact that he's really good at manipulating people and the fact that he even manages to get Clint to serve him it would have made more sense for the character to take a more active role in the film and not just have to rely on other people to do things for him as that doesn't feel like that it's in his character to do so as while Loki is a bit of a pampered character and would therefor be the one to do the least amount of work in order to cause the most amount of damage he's also a control freak and would there also want to do the most amount of work as that would be the only way for him to do things his way and to get things done the way that he would want them to be done.

One of the huge major plusses for this film is the fact that they killed of a character from all of the other MCU movies. As while it was only a minor character at best in Phil Coulson it is something that doe let you know that if this character can die then maybe one of The Avengers can also die as well which is something that we of course know will never happen but it is something that does serve as a great way to add in some last minuet tension as when Phil does die the team are down and out and as he was the teams solo cheerleader with him being seen talking to at the very least three of the group all throughout the movie having him be the one to die is a great to kill of the teams spirits as now they have next to nobody routing for them and they basically become the underdogs in a sports movie as they have everything going against them and next to nothing working or them something which they do use to there advantage as it lights a fire within them to keep on fighting even when everything else is telling them to stay down and while having a character like Nick Fury be the one to die would have been more shocking due to the fact that he was a major character in this movie it's Phill's death that works better for us the audience due to the fact that he's been in three MCU movies at this point in time and so we the audience are more familiar with his character despite the fact that Nick Fury is the more well known comic book character as well and while Fury's deaths would have been great to see in the film it also would have been hard to see just how the team would have been able to bounce back from that as the character really hasn't been all that friendly to all of our main heroes where as Coulson was more an acquaintance to them and was openly friendly to all of them as well.

Now then this film has / had an exact grand total running time of exactly two hours and twenty two minuets and fifty five seconds. Which to be fair to this film is perfectly solid amount of running time for this film to have as this film does have the absolutely right amount of plot there to cover that amount of running time but at the same time tho this film really doesn't use it's running time all that wisely either as the film doesn't develop it's characters or it's plot all that well with the plot whilst it is a decent plot that's handled as well as it was going to be isn't that well developed due to the fact that nothing is really set up as we don't really get to find out why Loki wants to take over the earth and nor are we given reason to boo him out side of the fact that he's the villain and yet if you compare this to the characters first appearance in Thor we get both of those given us and because of that both the plot plot and the film and the Loki character are allowed to be alot more developed and yet in this film because of the fact that the makers of this film have to get to fully introducing all of The Avengers and explaining what their role is on the team be it the muscle or the brains very little is left for the characters to be developed and while yes fair enough they do have the other MCU movies for all of that given that this film was one of the earlier films in the MCU then this film really should have helped to develop the characters a bit more then what they already do as that would have helped us care more for the characters when they do start to argue amongst themselves but because of the fact that the film has a bit to much to do and a short amount of time in which to it in nothing can be that well developed in the first place but I really will it that this film really does have some really good pacing to it tho.

So now then as this is an action film that really does mean that I have to actually talk about the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film well then in all honesty I in all honesty personally thought / felt that the actual action that's actually featured / presented to us in this very film was in all honesty really good. With this film having alot of really cool moments in all of it's action scenes and while yes it will always be cool seeing Captain American , Iron Man and Thor not only meet up for the first time in the forest but also engage in a triple threat match as well the best fight in the whole movie has to be the entirety of The Battle Of New York as that's where we get to see all of The Avengers really come together and fight together as as one for the first time and it will always be cool not only seeing all of these character share the same screen together but also fight along side each other and use there powers as well and while the fight of the Helecarrier will always be a very close second best action scene in the movie just due to the amount of drama and plot that's being moved forward in that sequence sometimes you just require something cool in your action scenes and no matter how many times we get to see the awsome fight Hulk and Thor onboard the Helecarrier it will always be cool just to see these characters beating up aliens in the middle of New York and heck it's during that sequence that we get that really cool looking one shot where all of the characters essentially the scene on to each other whilst there all doing their best to save the day as that's just how good and how cool that that action scene really is in this very film in my freaking opinions anyways / at least.

Overall this film is a good way to do a team up movie as all of the main characters of the team re already set up thanks to being in there own separate films before meeting each other in this film which is always the way to go when it comes to a big team up movie such as this one with this film more the holding up thirteen years later as that's just how good that this film really is in my freaking opinions anyways / at least. Now then i've talked about all of the good an as well as all of the bad things that are in this very film in this very review and as such that really does mean that this very film really does earn itself a grand old score of exactly an 8 out of 10 from me.
