Toys for Kids Awareness Month

Hey peeps, it's Jimmy. December is upon us which means it's Toys for Kids Awareness Month. If you don't TFKAM (yes I abbreviated it) is, basically it's to raise awareness about donating toys to kids who are less fortunate. So I wanted to make a post to raise awareness for this cause and I decided to talk about what some of my favorite DC characters favorite toys would be when they were growing up. So without further ado, let's get started.

Jimmy Olsen

Jimmy acted up a lot at school and would often skip class and go on his own adventures. So I think Jimmy would like to get either a scooter, bike, or skateboard. This would allow Jimmy to have some fun on his adventures and be able to get around town a lot easier.

Clark Kent

As we all know, Clark grew up in Smallville which is a small town in Kansas. Since he worked on the farm a lot, he didn't have a lot of time to play. But, I imagine Clark's favorite toy is one that I owned as a young child, Lincoln Logs. Yes, I'm very serious. I could imagine a young Clark Kent building his own small town with Lincoln Logs in his room, and they were a pretty popular toy when Clark would've been a young kid.

Hal Jordan

Hal Jordan had a toy jet when he was younger (read DC the New Frontier to see what I'm talking about), now I could easily say that the jet is his favorite toy which is most likely true, but I'd rather pick something else to be original. So, my pick for Hal's favorite toy growing up is LEGO. I can imagine Hal building jets, planes, and helicopters, out of the LEGO bricks that he would have. It would also be funny, since he'd be making the same things in his career as a Green Lantern.

Charities

Here are a few charities that I personally believe in and that I think are a good cause.

Toys for Tots

"Mission: The basic mission of the Marine Toys for Tots Program is to collect new unwrapped toys and distribute those toys to less fortunate children at Christmas."

"Goal: The primary goal of Marine Toys for Tots is, through the gift of a new toy, help bring the joy of Christmas and send a message of hope to America's less fortunate children." - Toys for Tots

Last year, Toys for Tots donated over 7 million toys to kids all across America. Toys for Tots has a special place in my heart, because my dad actually served in the marine corps, so I was always around Toys for Tots as a young kid. I've seen their work first hand and I can say that they definitely want to help as many kids as they can.

Fairy Bricks

"Fairy Bricks has one very simple objective. To give LEGO to children in hospital. When we tell people that they often pause before they respond, anticipating for us to say something else but that really is it. Our charitable aim is very simple and straightforward, and as a charity we act in a very similar way.

From humble beginnings and a single hospital donation in 2012, we now aim to deliver LEGO with a retail value of approximately £5000 per month throughout the UK and beyond. In 2019 we are hoping to increase that to £7500 of sets each and every month.

Play is a vital part of the recovery process when children are in hospital. It provides comfort, distraction and is even used as an educational tool by Play Specialists to assist children with procedures they have to endure. LEGO itself as a product is perfect for this. It is an item many children are already familiar with and can provide an instant escape at a very difficult time. Then by it’s very nature when tomorrow comes it can be rebuilt to help the same child with something else or move to another child to start the process all over again." - Fairy Bricks

Fairy Bricks is based in the UK, and other parts of Europe. Like they stated in the quote above, their goal is to donate LEGO sets to children's hospitals to help them through rough times. I feel like, if I can give a LEGO set to a kid that is currently going through heck and it helps them, then it is 100% worth it.

These are the two charities that I'll mention, and I hope this bspires you to give something to the less fortunate this holiday season.
