Now Playing: Andy Mineo - I've Been...
Hey peeps, it's Jimmy. The Book Club recently read Dr. Fate: Blood Prince and now it's time for my review of the book. Spoiler warning for Doctor Fate: Blood Prince, seriously, go read the book for yourself then comeback to this review. We good? Alright, let's just jump into it.
The Story
I really enjoyed myself with this story. Khalid is a medical student who is just finds his way into being the next Dr. Fate, which is interesting. This gave me similar vibes to the Ultimate Spider-Man comics (my personal favorite Marvel series and the only good thing Bendis has written imo). He's just trying to adjust to his new found abilities. Though he does have Kent to help mentor him. Just like Bruce did for Damian or Barry did for Wally. I'm normally not a fan of Egyptian mythology (I'm more into Greek and Roman mythology) but the book still kept me interested. There's a really well done scene in issue #7 where Anubis rips out Khalid's heart and Khalid has to fully trust the helmet and let it take control. It's really well written because you can tell that Khalid is terrified for his life. There's a scene where Anubis puts Khalid's heart on the scale of fate and his heart is lighter than a feather, showcasing that Khalid has a good heart and good intentions. Overall it's a really fun read.

Like I said before, Khalid is very much a Peter Parker or Miles Morales type character. He's just a young adult who stumbles across new found abilities. He reacts the way I think a lot of us would at first. He doesn't really know what's happening at first but as he continues to be Doctor Fate he adjusts to his abilities. He does have a few funny moments but he isn't constantly trying to tell puns like Peter or Dick Grayson. He's a really enjoyable character and is one that I can definitely route for.
Kent

Like I said before, Kent is the Bruce Wayne or Captain America type figure in this series. He's trying to train Khalid his abilities and how to be the next Dr. Fate essentially. It's very interesting to see their team dynamic. Khalid is the more nervous person whereas Kent is more confident, which makes sense for him to be confident, seeing as he's been Dr. Fate for literal decades.
My Questions
Here are my questions for you peeps to hopefully spark a fun conversation.
1. Do you think Khalid is a worthy successor to Kent? Why or why not?
2. Did you enjoy Khalid's personality?
3. Do you think Kent is a good mentor for Khalid?
4. Is Puck the best cat in DC?
The End
That does it for my review of Doctor Fate: Blood Prince, hopefully you did enjoy it and feel free to let me know your thoughts on the book. As always have a great rest of your day/night and keep being awesome DC fans. - Jimmy
