Today, I present you an art tutorial on very simple feminine and masculine noses and mouths. Although I did the tutorial digitally, you by no means need to follow the tutorial digitally. If I draw over things in a certain step, the new lines will be shown in red.
FEMININE||
Step 1: Nose Base
Draw a small heart that is thinner than a usual heart. It should be the kind you can draw by putting two thicker segments in a V shape. This will be the nose.
Step 2:
Draw a semicircle that is more like a semi-oval(longer from left to right than up to down) with the flat side facing towards the nose. This is the beginning of the mouth.
Step 3:
Erase the sides of the semicircle. The amount erased does not have to be exact, but most of the two sides should be erased.
Step 4:
Over the top, flat face of the semicircle, draw two two-curved lines that stem from the center of the semicircle face and go outwards. The curves should be relatively flat, starting from the center and going up, and then curving in the opposite direction. Please refer to the image.
Step 5:
Finally, erase the top layer of the nose so that it is thinner, and erase the previous lines of the semicircle that are underneath the curving mouth lines.
MASCULINE||
Step 1: Mouth
For this tutorial, the mouth will be the same as the mouth from the feminine section, so please refer to steps 2-5 of the feminine tutorial. The actual shape of this mouth is quite neutral—in my opinion, most of the separation between feminine and masculine mouths lie in the coloring and shading, which is not included in this tutorial.
Step 2: Nose Base
Draw two lines forming an angle that is about 50 degrees. The angle should be above the mouth—the distance from the angle to mouth should be around the height of the mouth. The open section of the angle should start a little to the left of the center of the mouth. The vertex of the angle should start in the middle of the right curve of the mouth.
Step 3: Nose Top Base
Since masculine anime-style noses are usually more prominent than female ones, the bridge of the nose is often shown leading towards the eyebrow. Draw a line straight up, starting from a few ways above the endpoint of the top of the angle. The distance from the end of the angle to the start of the line should be twice the height of the angle. Next, draw another line that turns the first line into an obtuse angle with the open sector facing the lower right.
Step 4: Nose Curves
Thicken the bottom line of the tip of the nose into a very small semi-oval. Make the other line of the top of the nose curve in towards the other angle line, so that the tips of the curve face away from the other angle line. Draw over the base of the nose bridge to make it one smooth curve.
Step 5: Cleaning Lines
Erase the lines drawn in Step 2 and Step 3.
