For Readers

What sort of fanfiction do you read? What sort do you avoid? What makes qualities make the fic interesting or not? Do you lean towards fanfics with a ship you ? Fan fics with unique ships?

When it comes to Fanfiction I will read any and all fanfics as long as I know the fandom. I'm not the biggest Anime, or cartoon person, so I will avoid those  as I am not aware of the lore or the world of those fics. I may read one story of those, but I feel like I will be lost as I'm not really a fan of those. I don't keep up with the MCU, so I don't read the Marvel fics even though I love the characters. As far as what I enjoy reading, I'll read anything within the Anastasia fandom, I know it seems like an odd fandom to love and read fics for, but I love the characters and the stories that people come up with using those characters. I need to read more fics but I just don't find the time, but I know I should other writers, I would love to get into the Harry Potter World of fics.  I have enjoyed Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 fan fics. Most people have no idea that's a fandom, but it's for one of my favorite musicals, and I love what the writers do with these characters.

As far as what makes a fanfic interesting, I am easy going. As long as the author is making it their own with a different story line, adding their own twist to the characters beloved by fans of the work, or a way to make the work their  own or separate it from other works in the fandom I am happy. I find any sort of AU the best because I love seeing what writers come up with, taking the characters from the world we know and putting them in a new situation.  The fics that I don't find interesting are the ones that don't have any personal flare. By this, I simply mean fics that are just like the original story, this just seems like plagiarism to me. I know that some writers don't like AU's, but you can add your own personal touch to a story set the in the same world, or the same time, but you can still add your own elements to make it yours.

I don't really lean towards any specific ships really. My main ship is Anastasia and Dimitry, I just love their story and seeing other people's takes on their story. AS I said before, I am very flexible in of fic. The one ship that I will not ever read is Gleb and Anastasia because that ship is not for me. For those that don't know, Gleb is a character that was added for the musical version of Anastasia, and I don't want to spoil the plot for you, but I will say that I just don't see these two as a couple. The other ship I really don't like is Natasha and Anatole from War&Peace and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. This is more of a case of personal preference as within this specific fandom, I think these two are popular.  I'm all for unique ships! I think they just add to the creativity of the story and the characters.

For Writers

What sort of fic do you write? What sort of fanfic do you refuse to write? As a writer, would you allow or encourage fanfiction of your stories? What qualities or ships do you like to see in fanfics about stories and which would you like fan to avoid?

I don't write that many fanfics. I need to write more now that I think about it, but I mostly write in the Anastasia and Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 fandoms. These fandoms are comfort me as a writer, and I enjoy the break from working on my original stories. Within these fandoms, I always work in AU because I have not found the time to research the time these original stories take place, and I feel if you don't write the era correctly, it is doing a dis service to the story. I will not write a smut fic of a fic for teen and above. This is just a personal thing, but those things make me uncomfortable to read and to write.

As a writer, yes I would allow and encourage fan fic of my stories. I write so that people can enjoy my work, and I feel that someone would love my work so much that they write their own stories based on it. In fact, I would consider it a pleasure if someone wanted to write a fic based on my works. The qualities I would look for in fics of my work is simple. I lay out personalities, goals, dreams, values, and history for my characters and these need to be included.  A main character and ing character is always has an interest in theater and books or writing. These need to be kept in tact as well as they're a big part of my stories and me putting my somewhat niche interest into my work. The only thing that I would want to see avoided is changing the characters in major ways.

Reader :

_ I like to read fanfics that have drama, comfort, romance, angst, and action.

_ I definitely try my best to avoid horror, gore, and beyond insane antics.

_ A interesting fanfic read is the plot. A writer has definitely got to know how to lure and entice his/her readers. Keeping in line with the main focus of the plot centered and not go off topic.

_ My fanship is a must! OOC ships can possibly fit if the writer creates a dynamic between the two characters.
