Hm, the story of Icarus isn't really much appreciated, no? So here's a poem dedicated to him!

My dear Icarus,

you sought to reach

the High Heavens

only for you to fall,

You listened not once

to the warnings,

which then lead to

your demise below the waves

Or, perhaps, you did

listen to them,

you listened to them

but feared not the consequence,

Why did you do that?

Why, Icarus?

Is it the sun?

Are you trying to reach it?

Icarus, you folly boy,

he is a deity,

and you are but a mortal;

Why would he seek your presence?

Why rise above the skies

knowing that you will fall?

Why do you go beyond

just to have a glimpse of him?

My dear Icarus,

Apollo is

beyond your reach

no matter how high you go,

You listened only

to his music,

you listened only

to the songs that he compose,

Perhaps more than that,

perhaps you not

only listen to

his songs, but also his words,

Did you like his songs?

Is it his voice?

Had Apollo made

you unafraid of death's grasps?

Icarus, you brave young man,

he is an immortal

while you will grow and wither,

so why do you still want him?

Why don't you heed warnings

that were made for your sake?

Why do you risk your life

for the Sun god Apollo?

But, what if,

despite all these,

you made the risk

all for love?

Icarus,

do you wish to

be embraced by

Apollo?

Is this why you flew so high?

Is this why you went beyond?

Is this why you heed no warnings?

Is this why you feared no death?

Was all of these

part of your plan

to touch but the hand

of Apollo?

You risked your life

to meet a god,

and in his embrace

you lose it all.

This is stunning!!!! I’m so glad you kept the part of the original myth of Icarus loving Apollo. This hella good and I hoping you keep writing poems like this.

Thanks, and I will! Truth be told, I think I'll be writing another poem about Icarus since I got another picture from Deviantart that sparked my interest :smile_cat:

An absolutely beautiful rendering of the story of Icarus!! I especially love how you explored on Icarus and Apollo’s relationship rather than the thing people usually focus on (Icarus being ignorant and forgetting the warning instead of blatantly ignoring it). I also love how it seems to be in Daedalus’ perspective, as if he is speaking to the late Icarus.

Amazing diction and vivid imagery; I love your writing style <3

Thank you! Thank you! Yes, I've seen that most everything about Icarus is about him forgetting rules and whatnot. I think of this poem as something of an alternative- like, there *could* be a different reason why the events took place. :smile_cat:

I'm happy you love it!
