CCT News #6 Calm Tides Prelude Harsh Waves

”Hello Everyone! Brazen Oak here, back on air after a long absence!”

The silky smooth voice of radio host Brazen Oak chimed over the radio.

”Speaking to you live, as usual, from the Atlesian CCT Tower high in the cold, cold Solitasian North. It’s been a long, long while since our last global news report, so I hope your local news stations have been treating you all right!”

A light chuckle followed, the noise holding a strangely soothing feel to it.

”There’s quite a bit to unpack in of what’s been going on this world since the last report, from Grimm attacks to boring old politics. The Foedo Conflict is still ongoing, but we’ll save that until last.”

”The first thing on the list is the current Grimm Threat Level in each Kingdom, for all the Soldiers and Hunstmen listening in. Threat Level Orange had been declared in the Kingdom of Vale last year, shortly following the the Destruction of Beacon Academy. Grimm attacks on the City itself, whilst under control, have increased in frequency due to the terror caused by Beacon’s Fall, and the negativity of the various anti Hunstmen protests. This has also extended to the Kingdom’s other cities and many villages and rest stops. Recently a major village in Vale’s eastern most provinces, along Highway 65, has suffered immense damage from rampaging Goliaths. Local infrastructure suffered heavy damage, with the popular ‘King’s Gullet’ Inn and dozens of houses being entirely demolished before nearby Valian Military Patrols, a ing Atlesian Destroyer, and two teams of Hunstmen managed to fend off the stampede. So far this has been the most devastating Grimm attack this year, with forty four confirmed dead and around a hundred more injured.”

”On the western half of Sanus, the Kingdom of Vacuo has recently declared Threat Level Yellow ever since a high level Grimm managed to make its way into the city. Whilst normally in Threat Level Green thanks not only to the nation’s low Grimm population, but to the efforts of local forces such as the ever growing Vacuoan Militia and their allies in the Silver Gryphon Knighthood, the city found itself taken off guard by the sudden appearance of an Exomachia that had managed to sneak past its defences. Luckily, the intervention of locals and Military Personnel from both the Vacuoan Military and the Valian Military, including the Generals of both groups, was enough to bring the Exomachia down before it could cause severe damage. Whilst damages have been managed to be kept to a minimum, the mere fact that a Grimm such as an Exomachia managed to get in the city at all has got people questioning the effectiveness of the city’s current defences.”

”Over in Anima, most of the Kingdom of Mistral is still declaring Threat Level Yellow and Orange except for the capital itself and Argus. The Kingdom of Mistral tends to avoid declaring a certain threat level for its entire kingdom due to its sheer size. The City of Mistral in currently in Threat Level Green due a lack of any severe Grimm attacks and the same can be said for the City of Argus. The Windpath Province, which contains the City of Windpath alongside many smaller settlements, is still declaring Threat Level Orange as local Mistralian Defence Forces and their Hunstmen counterparts are busy fending off numerous Grimm attacks which are believed to be largely made up of leftovers of the Windpath Maelstrom that devastated the region twenty years ago. In the Far East, an over stretched MDF was forced into retreat by the sudden awakening of an ancient Grimm. The exact type of the ancient is, as of yet, unconfirmed but it has managed to attract a sizeable enough horde to force the Kingdom of Mistral to abandon multiple mining villages. So far, the MDF is managing to hold its fallback line against repeated Grimm attacks, despite reports of non Grimm elements also taking the opportunity to launch their own attacks on the MDF. The Mistralian Council is currently deciding on whether or not they should increase the Threat Level in that area from Orange to Red, which would either mean a costly mass employment of Hunstmen or an Atlesian Military intervention.”

”And finally, Solitas. The Kingdom of Atlas had declared and maintained Threat Level Green for most of the continent, as expected for the home of Remnant’s strongest military. Grimm attacks are few in number due to the frigid temperatures, although many villages do often have to fend off a few Sabyr packs that wander too close. In isolated areas of the continent dominated by independent tribes and clans, the Military has had to intervene in tribal conflicts frequently before the tribes themselves were wiped out by Grimm. Originally there was concern that the threat level would have to be moved up to yellow due to the current war against the Foedosian Shattered Moon to the south west of the Kingdom, both due to anti war protests and the smaller number of airships in Atlesian Airspace. Whilst the negativity caused by protests in Mantle continue to attract Grimm, the Atlesian Government has so far managed to keep its Kingdom secure. Further up north in the Atlesian Province of Solstice, a formerly desolate province which has saw a rise in population during the construction of the ambitious City of Solstice, Threat Level Blue has been declared for the first time in decades. Threat Level Blue was last declared in the City of Mistral twenty years ago, however the events of Towers’ Fell soon thereafter meant the City was forced into Threat Level Red. The complete lack of Grimm in the Province of Solstice is countered by the fact that it is completely inhospitable to Human and Faunus life. The Kingdom of Atlas is still maintaining tight control over who can and cannot enter the City of Solstice, as it does not yet have the infrastructure to a large population.”

A sharp intake of breath could be heard as the host takes a moment of rest.

...

”To the non Hunstmen folk out there, the Threat Level declared by each Kingdom not only gives us an idea of how bad the Grimm there are, but it also tells Hunstmen about how many contracts are going to be available. Higher threat levels mean more work, whilst the opposite is true as it gets lower. Threat Level Blue is the lowest, then Green, Yellow, Orange, Red, and then Black. The last time Threat Level Black was declared was not long after the Great War and at the start of the Great Hunt, long before my time.”

”Although we do get small areas, mostly in non Council d nations, where Threat Level Black is declared locally. Those are the areas we call “Lost to Darkness”. Completely infested by Grimm although they’re minor enough that a Great Hunt doesn’t need to be declared.”

...

”Moving on. Tensions in Foedo have flared once again as the Order of the Shattered Moon refused a demand for a conditional surrender after Atlesian Forces, with from Vacuoan volunteers, pushed their way over one hundred and fifty miles in land after invading the Foedo via the coastline. A ceasefire was declared late October last year and talks have begun between the Shattered Moon and the Atlas led Coalition of Southern Foedosian Nations, with representatives from the Council arriving in mid November in order to ensure things are deescalated.”

”Atlas originally invaded in response to Shattered Moon provocations and ‘belligerence’, despite protests from the Council. One week into the invasion, during an Operation dubbed ‘Bring Down the Sky’, the goal of the Atlesian Invasion Force changed from seizing the Shattered Moon’s eastern coastline to liberating Foedosian lands from Shattered Moon oppression. Collaborationist Governments led by native Foedosians have already begun to form with the aid of the Kingdom of Atlas, and are now working together as the CSFN.”

”During peace talks with the Shattered Moon, Supreme General Cromwell made it abundantly clear that there will be no peace if Grand Strategos Ferrum of the Shattered Moon refuses to abdicate and give up the lands that the Knighthood had conquered under Ferrum’s reign. This drew a rather vocal opposition from the Council, as they saw the as too harsh to be feasible and merely wished for the CSFN to be content with the lands already liberated. A heated argument broke out because Council Representatives and CSFN Leaders, with both sides having to be pulled apart by Atlesian Major General Eisenhower and Shattered Moon Knight Commandant Santiago before it got physical... Ironic.”

”Unfortunately, Council Representatives were expunged from the peace talks back in January as calls for full deescalation became increasingly ignored by both sides. The peace talks continued into February, with the prolonged ceasefire causing a few instances of fraternisation between the two sides on the frontline. Atlesian Marines and Vacuoan Militia Troops were spotted playing soccer with Shattered Moon Men at Arms last month, and Major General Eisenhower and Knight Commandant Santiago are rumoured to have shared a drink of Mantilian Vodka during a break in the peace talks.”

”Any hope of these instances increasing the chances of peace within an already war torn continent has been crushed after an announcement yesterday by Grand Strategos Ferrum. Starting his speech with a scathing insult towards Supreme General Cromwell, he has declared his desire to end the ceasefire and continue the war. Atlas’ response was short and simple: ‘You’ll regret this’.”

...

”Fighting continued this morning with only a scant few reports being made available to the public. Atlas and CSFN forces attempted to push through the Shattered Moon’s southern territories, however this had been met with fierce resistance that is believed to have led to a bloody stalemate. Besides this we don’t know much else. We’ll update you as the situation becomes more clear.

”Taking our attention away from Foedo and back to Atlas, the CCT News Network has had a request for a rare interview with Supreme General Adamaris Cromwell approved. Given the General’s nature as a workaholic and the level of reclusiveness she has shown during the last four years, this presents us and the public the opportunity to ask the General of the Atlesian Military and Heistress of Atlas Academy various questions.”

”Any questions that you may have for her can be submitted to the CCT News Network Website... We might not get this opportunity again for a long while, neither will we be able to ask her all of the submitted questions in the time they have offered us. So please think carefully.”

”And that’s all for today folks! And I know that things in Remnant haven’t been very cheerful lately. But are we really gonna let that bring us down? We’ve been through nastier times, we’ll pull through! I’ll see you all next time.”

...

(If an OC of your’s does have a question that they would want to ask Adamaris, put it down in the comments alongside the name of the OC. I’ll eventually make a post detailing the interview. Try to keep it appropriate.)

Toskar Z. A.: I'm sorry but I have a lot of of questions as a foreigner living in Atlas. Thank you so much for answering questions, by the way, Supreme General Adamaris Cromwell.

- Do you have any plans for laws that should be ed to better improve their working conditions and rights of Mantle Dust Miners? If so, when do you plan to implement them?

- Why has Elke been allowed to continue work as head of the TES despite the tension it causes, the feelings of unease it creates in the Atlesian Faunus population, and her prejudice against Faunus which could cause her to subconsciously or consciously act unjustly towards both civilians and soldiers?

- What do you believe should be the ideal relationship between the people and military? (Oh, and how can we help local veterans?)

- And finally... Why is Atlas increasing its oversea presence in both Vacuo and Vale? I’m definitely for helping abroad, but do you not worry that these attempts at strengthening military bonds could cause strife between the Atlas military and Vale/Vacuo’s populations due to having foreign soldiers so close to home?

Colby: Howdy, ma’am! I have only one real question. How long does the Atlesian military plan on stayin’ in Vale? Surely they don’t plan on squattin’ overseas in a different kingdom for years to come, right? Oh! Do you have any combat tips y’could share with us huntsmen students?

Adi Chaya (Syrus alias): How will Atlas approach future relations with the other kingdoms? Will they be sticking their noses in deeply, or will they mind their own business for once? Also, why are there still troops in Beacon's ruins? Is there something there, or do you think your military is just that much better than the local forces?

Hunter: Is there any advice you can give us students to improve ourselves and prepare us to tackle our future jobs?

Kenna: Do you plan to change or influence Atlas' economic policy?
