He may not be the main character but he's the character who caught my attention from the first time I laid my eyes on him. My interest in him grew when I found out that he's an older brother (I have a thing for older brothers lol). This will be my first time writing a wiki just using one character so I'm not confident enough but since it's about Kouen, I guess I can pull it off. So enough with that, let's get to know the guy who captured my heart in a second lol!

Kouen is a character that has a lot of charisma. Just one look at him, he'll give you the impression that he's someone important. In the anime Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic, he's a character with a great reputation. He was the Kou Empire's First Imperial Prince before falsely accused as a traitor when the Civil War happened. He was the General Commander as well of the Kou Empire's Western Subjugation Army and also the Governor of Balbadd when the said country was controlled by the Kou Empire. He achieved all of that not because he has a reputation of being a prince but because he has the talent and skill to rule.

Kouen is someone who is befitting to rule but later on, in the manga, he stated that he doesn't want to become King. The very reason why he continued his role was because of his love for his country that he wants to protect. He set aside his grudge against Ren Gyokuen, the person behind the death of the First Emperor Hakutuko and his heirs, Prince Hakuryuu and Hakuren. Instead of blindly executing revenge which his younger brother Hakuryuu did, Kouen expands his knowledge more for knowledge is power but according to Queen Cersei, power is power, and Gyokuen both have those, knowledge and power. You won't be able to win against an enemy who exceeds you both in of knowledge and power so Kouen strives hard to achieve both for him to be able to have his revenge someday. Kouen is someone who doesn't just go into a fight without analyzing the situation.

Kouen as “Kouen”

As I have said earlier, Kouen is someone who can capture your heart in a second. When I was watching the anime, I got interested in his younger brother Hakuryuu but it all changed when a guy with red hair emitting a strong aura caught my attention. Who is this guy? Such a strong charisma! Then, he was introduced as Hakuryuu's big bro, and of course, someone who likes older brothers, I got fixated on him! Well, it's not just because he is an older brother but his calm, serious and with a smug face of him, his deep voice, his strong aura that will drag you to him, his overflowing confidence and authority attracts me so much. His desire for knowledge is quite scary but that’s what makes him attractive.

Older guys are far better than immature younger boys. No offense but talking with someone older than you have more sense than talking with someone younger. I'm not saying that young people have no sense, it's just that I prefer talking with someone older than me coz I can learn a lot of things from them. Almost all of my friends are older than me by two, five, or more years. I only have few who have the same age as me or much younger than me. Kouen ed on both, intelligent and older than me. He's greedy for knowledge. He's a man who has a burning desire for knowledge. He's someone who'll take great lengths just to find the answers to his questions. He doesn't mind getting hurt as long as he can obtain the answers he seeks. Intelligent guys are more attractive than handsome guys who only know how to play with a woman's heart.

Kouen is someone I want to have a heart to heart talk with. I feel like he can answer all of my questions better than someone who will just answer me, “I don't know anything about it, I just know how to love you” when I ask him what is your political stand :expressionless: ? I want someone who'll be able to explain to me that the concept of parallel universe or alternate realities are more science fiction than a fantasy. I want someone whom I can learn a lot of things from and Kouen is a great candidate for me on that. Don't get me wrong, I don't just go for older brothers just because they are older, it has something to do with their personality as well. I guess no one can justify to me that Sasuke is far better than Itachi coz that's a big NO.

One good trait of Kouen is, he's someone who will not judge you based on what you are but for who you are. when Alibaba asked him if it's okay for him to talk with someone like him and replied that it is something dumb to ask. He explains that ten years ago, he was in a completely different position and it all changed due to the Emperor's death so, in the end, differences due to lineage don't exist in the world. He's someone who doesn't look at people indiscriminately and that's one of the reasons why his people in the Kou Empire love him. And he's not just intelligent, he also has the look. He has an appearance that can melt your heart. He looks mature and can make you feel that he can and protect you at the same time. He's a great example of a perfect package guy that I want to have in my life and I guess that's the reason why I'm still single because someone like him doesn't exist haha!

Kouen as a “Leader”

Kouen has the attributes of a good leader. He may have a tyrannical public image, but he's not someone like that. A lot of good rulers have that kind of public image but they aren't. Well, Kouen can be scary but that's for the welfare of his country. He's someone who shows to his people who he is and acknowledges him for that. His people won't genuinely follow him if he's someone who cruelly exercises his power. Instead of oppressing people by his power, he has the charisma who'll make you follow him. He can give assurance to his people that if he's there, everything will be alright. He's not just a good ruler but you can't deny the fact that he's also good in combat thus, making his people boost their confidence that a strong ally is with them. Having that kind of influence on your people shows how much they trust you and how great their faith is in you.

Kouen's specialty is war. By the age of eleven, he began to observe and study war and when he was twenty-two years old, he started his very own war campaigns but he's someone who wishes to end it. One reason for not opposing Gyokuen is that he gave more importance to ending the war than his revenge. He didn't let his emotion overcome him and gave importance to the well-being of his country. To end the war who caused a lot of heartache to his people, he comes up with the idea of uniting the world which will be ruled by a single king.

Kouen as a “Brother”

Kouen is someone who is not expressive with his emotions. He may appear cold but he loves his brothers and sisters dearly. He's an older brother who will not think twice to help you and he doesn't care whether you're a distant brother or not coz he's a guy who doesn't care about such trivial matters. He's a loving brother whom his younger siblings respect. He's the type of brother that will inspire you to do better and be someone who wants to him in every path he will take. He'll make you strive hard so you can help him when he's in trouble but I guess Kouen is not the type to ask help from his brother rather, he prefers it if you do it voluntarily. He's not the type who'll force you to do something you don't like but he's someone who'll you. You can depend on him and he's someone who will not judge when you fail but will lift your morale.

He can also be sacrificial for the sake of his siblings. He surrendered himself and took responsibility for the Civil War that happened and asked Hakuryuu to spare their other siblings who were part of his faction and be pardoned. He also gave his left arm and both legs to Hakuryuu before his execution and said that's the only thing he can do for him. See? He can still think of the welfare of his brother even on his deathbed. He's the kind of brother you wish to have.

His existence in the anime made it more engaging. He has a strong character that even though he's not the main lead, I find myself looking for him more in every scene than the main lead. Alibaba is a great main lead, he’s funny, engaging, and inspiring but Kouen has a strong impact on me. That whenever he appears in a scene, I find myself smiling. Like when he appeared when Alibaba was already helpless when all of the citizens' rukhs were overwritten by Sinbad. It's like he's a hero who saves the day. One thing I liked about him is, he's someone who is not easily influenced by other people rather, he's the one influencing other people and I'm one of them lol! Overall, I just love his character in the anime. Sinbad has a strong influence in the anime but I can't find myself to like him unlike Kouen, and my instinct is pretty good when choosing a character coz Sinbad ended up something I didn't expect and Kouen amazed me more. He never really ceases to amaze me.
