Girls love girls and boys

You looked around, taking in the poppy atmosphere. Flags fluttering around, saturated in rainbow dyes. Loud, uplifting music was floating in the air, people harmonising in synchrony. Glitter flew through the air. You glanced to your left, seeing her jumping up and down, ecstatic, forgetting all the troubles of the world. People were waving brilliant posters everywhere, not afraid to be themselves. They were...free. Closing your eyes, you ed in, swaying to the music, losing yourself.

Sometimes you’re better off alone

Thunder crackled outside as you woke, rain cascading into puddles. The house was dimly lit. Wind wailed outside, almost as if someone screaming in the distance. You shivered, winter was beginning to settle in. Tears burned in your eyes, as you thought back to the dream you had. It was an oasis of sorts, somewhere you could just....be yourself. No hiding. No shame. Freedom.

Pose, you’ve gotta save your reputation

You lowered your head, feeling emotionally exhausted, mind swirling with thoughts. Being free was not an option for you. It had been ruled out since day one, living in a prejudiced society. You’d learnt that the hard way. You looked outside, taking in the weather, as you re – imagined that memory.

They’re close to finding out about your girlfriend

You were sitting under a tree in the schoolyard, next to your best friend, watching other children run around. You were both quite young, eight at the most, trying to find your place in a busy world. You were at a stage where crushes were starting to develop. It was a sight to behold, you see, but with this, came gossip and lies. “What do you think about him?” she said, nodding towards a dark-haired boy. Briefly studying him, you replied in a way most eight-year olds would. Eyebrows slightly raised, head tilted to the side, “Ewww.” The girl threw daggers from her eyes. “Oh yeah? And you do you think is cute?” she replied defensively. Looking around, your eyes landed on one particular girl. Once again. “I think I like her.” Your friend’s eyes widened, an expression of disgust plastered on her face. “But she’s a GIRL. You’re so disgusting! Just wait till everyone else finds out about this!” You tried to stop her. “Wait! WAIT! That boy was kind of cute too!” But it was too late.

Push the other girl aside, and just give in

On the bright side, that gossip was quickly shut down. Starting rumours about someone else usually did the thing. That’s the weird thing about friendships, isn’t it? Trust can be both blissful, and disastrous. You flopped back down, trying to clear your head.

And never did I think that I, would be caught in the way you got me

But years and years of hiding your identity was starting to grow hold. You didn’t owe it to anyone, you told yourself, to tell them about how you felt. But it was tiring. Tiring that your friends and sibling and cousins could be free in a way you couldn’t. Tiring in a way that your relatives kept asking when you would get a boyfriend and were never satisfied when you mentioned past boyfriends. A line from a book you had read came to you. Why was straight the default? Why was it so controversial that people were not all the same? Why couldn’t I just love everyone freely? You shut your eyes, tightly. Why were you so conflicted with yourself?

A girl who can’t decide, and here’s the reason why

“If you wanted to be yourself, and not hide from anyone, why don’t you just tell them?” A small voice nagged in the back of your head. You would go on like this for days, fighting with yourself. “But I don’t have to tell them anything.” You drove yourself mad. It just really wasn’t that simple. Your mind flicked back to your dream. Imagine....imagine being there. Imagine being there with all those people, who weren’t afraid to be. Be who they are. Imagine being there with someone you loved. Someone you trusted. Imaging being who you really wanted to be.

Because girls love girls and boys.

And love is not a choice.

hola companeros pecadores!

hello fellow sinners! yo boyo jay here!

ah yes, a spicy new-ish layout for the mid-year. let’s see how this one works out.

if you haven’t realised or heard already - it’s pride month!! and it’s also that time of year we celebrate the birth of our current youngest member of the panic! family. our one-year-old, pray for the wicked! happy early birthday love.

june happens to be the month where everything really started to explode greatly for the newfound era and panic! themself. (i mean, really it was march but details, details.)

of course, some //other// things happened during this era - however, let’s celebrate the happier events that came out of the bad, shall we?

so buckle up kiddos, we’re taking a trip down to last year where it all started - where b took actions towards a new motivation and message, having high hopes.

≪ °༻❁ ——≪

what is the highest hopes foundation?

───

the highest hopes foundation is a non-profit organisation created by the lovely brendon urie and was released to the public eye on the 28 of june, 2018. the foundation was put into place in order to give back to the community. any proceeds and donations given to the foundation would go straight towards organisations and charities that advocate for human rights, something brendon really fights and stands up for. along with the presentation of the foundation, a statement was also released onto panic!’s official social media s and webpage, reading,

“Every single day, all of you show me strength, courage, and motivation, and as a result it felt important to create something to show you that I see all of the wonderful things you’re doing out there in the world. With that being said, I want to in on the fight for those who cannot fight for themselves. Today I present to you the Highest Hopes Foundation, created to the efforts of non-profit organisations that lead, develop, and advocate for human rights. This is dedicated to all people and communities who are subjected to discrimination or abuse on the basis of gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and gender identity. To kick things off, we’ll be donating $1 from every US ticket purchased for the Pray For The Wicked Tour to the Highest Hopes Foundation. All my love, B, P!ATD.”

using data from wikipedia (yes, a terrible, unreliable source shhhh-), having the data of what tour dates of the pftw tour in the states were sold out from (thanks to panicupdating on twitter), and from learning of specific venue capacities, i have calculated and estimated that the (very rough) donation total that went towards the highest hopes foundation is about $743,997 more or less. however, this was only the beginning.

≫ ─── ❁༺° ≫

donation information.

───

you, sinner, can help alongside brendon to fight for human rights by donating to the highest hopes foundation, which will in turn give your donation to organisation and charities that help to advocate for human rights.

how you can do this, you may be asking? well, you can by heading on over to the panic! website and clicking the “highest hopes foundation” tab on the top right corner of the page and then clicking the “donate” button, which will transfer you to where you can donate any sum of money to the organisation!

≪ °༻❁ ——≪

the human rights campaign.

───

the human rights campaign is the largest national lgbtq+ civil rights organisation in the states who are big advocates for equality for the lgbtq+ population and aim to educate the public about issues the lgbtq+ community face.

in 2014, a certain westboro baptist church decided to protest against lgbtq+ rights at one of panic!’s concerts and panic! pledged to donate $20 to the human rights campaign for every protester that showed up. although there were 13 protesters, panic! retaliated the church’s tweets towards the band, saying that the protest was “weak” and instead of donating the inital $260, panic! donated $1000 to the human rights campaign, as well as an additional 5% coming from merch proceeds of that show. during that same year, panic! collaborated with the hrc to release a shirt to go with their new single off of their latest album at the time, too weird to live, too rare to die, girls/girls/boys. all the proceeds from the collaborative shirt went towards the hrc, raising a total of $35,000 for the organisation. panic! continued on to the hrc by releasing the mobile game, panic! in vegas, in which a portion of the proceeds would be directed to the campaign.

in 2017, brendon teamed up with the human rights campaign, whom he had been well-acquainted with and had previously collaborated with before, in their equality rocks campaign, a campaign which is a “public engagement campaign” featuring celebrities from around the world who lgbtq+ rights and equality. a video released of his pledging to the equality rocks campaign which can be viewed here! as most know, during the second leg of the pray for the wicked tour, the lovely betty who ed panic! as one of the opening acts. earlier this year, she also pledged to the equality rocks campaign, having a much more in-depth and intimate interview on the topic of lgbtq+ equality and how much it has progress in the last few years. she seems like such a down-to-earth person so if you can, check out her pledging video as well!

for brendon’s birthday in 2018, a well known panic! known as urielectric or dyl started a fundraiser under brendon’s name where fans donated sums of money which would all go to the human rights campaign. in total, fans raised $2,372.96 suring the initial goal by over 450%. brendon reacted to the generosity fans displayed in an instagram live, exclaiming that,

”yeah, you know what’s really fucking cool? the best gift i think i got today was, i saw that someone had set up a... a gofundme for human rights campaign which is fuckin’ awesome man. like that was.. i got a little choked up. i’d saw that you guys had donated so much money... to something that i’ve so firmly believed in. and it was really cool. that was the most awesome birthday present. so thanks, if you guys were apart of that - that’s fucking awesome, thank you for that. super dope. i love ya.”

in the following months, dyl (urielectric) had reached out to the human rights campaign to get a certificate for brendon for the donations fans sent for his birthday that went to the human rights campaign. dyl has ed on the certificate to zack, panic!’s (more specifically, brendon’s) bodyguard and long-time friend to give to brendon which has most definitely by now has reached him. this year, dyl did a similar celebration project for brendon’s birthday this year. it was called the 32 days of giving in honour of brendon’s thirty-second birthday. it was a 32 day period leading up to the 12th of april, which is brendon’s birthday, of people donating every day to the highest hopes foundation. on his birthday, fans donated a total of $3894.25 to the highest hopes foundation, suring last years’ donation total by over a thousand dollars.

late last year in 2018, the human rights campaign recognised brendon for the 30th anniversary of national coming out day, as brendon had came out to the public as pansexual early july of that year in the infamous paper magazine interview.

≫ ─── ❁༺° ≫

glsen.

───

glsen is a student-based organisation that focuses its work towards ending discrimination and harassment towards lgbtq+ youth in school as well as strengthen the for lgbtq+ youth in school curriculums.

back in mid-2018, panic! performed on good morning america, to which a short interview followed afterwards. during that interview, the interviewer had brought up the highest hopes foundation which had been newly released to the public. brendon responded gladly with,

”...um, i started {the highest hopes foundation}, basically, to fight for human rights. that’s what i believe, and we have been funding glsen’s mission to help kids create a- an environment that is safe at schools, communities, for lgbtq youth. and it’s more inclusive, rather than shunning and shaming people, we’d like to include everyone so - thank you to glsen for letting us be apart of that. ...i’ve gave a million dollars {to glsen} to at least get it started, y’know? that’s the least we could do, absolutely.”

this year, brendon was awarded the inspiration award at glsen’s respect awards. upon receiving the award, he also gave an emotional, on the verge of tears speech about how much glsen and the lgbtq+ student education issues have progressed in the past year.

≪ °༻❁ ——≪

twitch.

───

twitch specifically has made such a huge impact on both brendon and the highest hopes foundation. whenever brendon streams on twitch, which is now his main platform for live streaming, fans and viewers may donate to brendon throughout the entirety of the stream. however, the proceeds do not go to brendon whatsoever. 100% of the proceeds collected from the streams go directly to the highest hopes foundation.

in a stream in late april of this year, brendon made a statement on how much money has gone towards the highest hopes foundation since the twitch streams started receiving donations, saying that,

”...all encoming everything going to the highest hopes foundation, you guys have raised upwards of 1.3 million dollars. *stares into camera, clearing throat* how freaking cool is that dude? *clears throat again* sorry. aeeughh i’m not trying to get all sappy and stuff but.. it’s not just the amount that is astonishing to me, it’s the fact that you guys have done it and it happened that quickly and that.. simply, y’know? i just appreciate all your guys selflessness. the way you guys uh.. help each other out and each other. you’re so kind and positive. looking for that positive change. it’s just incredible, so thank you.”

on the 12 of may, the legendary stream of that lasted eight hours long, supplied to viewers in the last ten minutes of the stream the purest and personal experience; brendon breaking down into tears from the mass donations from viewers which totaled up to over $50,000. you can watch the whole event unfold here which you definitely will not regret and i promise you that. initially, it was to be typed out - however, i feel it’s a more personal experience if you watch the actual stream itself. it was,, the softest thing i’ve seen. brendon let his guard down and let himself be vulnerable to the viewers, and it was such an intimate experience to share. the highest hopes foundation is something he so cares for and i’m glad brendon has allowed us a platform to help the people who need it and who struggle.

───

i honestly don’t know how i could possibly end off this article but please know this one thing,

you are so so loved for who you are as a person, don’t ever let anyone dictate who you are or if you are ‘wrong’ or ‘disgusting’. you are beautiful and cared for and appreciated and i’m so glad you’re here. you can get through it. keep on fighting the good fight.

this is your month. don’t let anyone ruin your pride in being your unapologetic self. celebrate it. embrace it.

and as always,

much love <3

                            and that concludes the
