Hey! Barely finished my story for this month. I've been pretty busy.

Here's a little something I wrote. I like to call it "A Mess"

No not really. More like "Murdoc is fed up with how clumsy 2D is and makes a dumb promise." Yeah that's better.

Hope you enjoy!

"Bloody tosser, this is the fourth time today!"

"There's a lot of people! And I can't see good!"

Murdoc growled under his breath, eyes dark as he glared at 2D from under his fringe.

The lighting was in eery shades of red, masking his features in it's dark colors and making him look even more menacing than he would have normally.

The look was enough to make 2D stand straight, and the growl had him wringing his hands.

"Look! I won't mess up again, promise."

2D said, quickly trying to diffuse the situation in hopes of getting out of it without a scratch.

He knew his promises were usually always empty, being that he forgot or he messed up, which he did often, but he hoped Murdoc would just take the words and trust he'd do well.

Honestly he was getting upset with himself, too, how many times could he trip before even getting through the first verse?

Once while making his way out of his chair, twice while walking through the bodies littering the floor, once after tripping over a stray cord from a camera.

He knew everyone was getting tired of this.

He was getting tired of this, but he couldn't help it.

He gave Murdoc his best look of reassurance, a fake smile that stretched his cheeks and gave him crows feet, and mentally sighed when he saw Murdoc's shoulders slump.

The look was still there, albeit less menacing, and Murdoc huffed and pointed back to his chair.

"Go. Better not screw it up this time, dullard."

2D nodded, insults going over his head, happy to get back to work, and mentally prepared himself, walking back over to his starting point, glancing over at the camera men and the crew working with them.

"Ok! Back to work. Take six!"

The lights got even dimmer, 2D could feel his palms sweating, resisting the urge to glance over at Murdoc, knowing he was getting situated back with his bass and the women next to him.

He heard Russel sigh from behind his drums, knew he was twirling his drumsticks in impatience.

The director cleared his throat, said the words, and they were starting again.

He almost made it halfway through the song before slipping up again.

"Love forever, love is--Gah!"

He tripped over someone's stray leg, and he almost felt bad for them, and his world was rushing fast and hard towards the dark, cold ground. He scrunched his eyes up and managed to turn his head before he crashed into the floor face first, grunting as pain shot through his head and shoulders, body twisting and legs swinging up in the air as the music cut off.

He whimpered and didn't bother righting himself, letting the stars behind his eyelids fade first, but didn't get the chance to do anything more when a hand grabbed his shirt collar from behind and forcefully hauled him up onto shaky legs.

"Right then."

2D blinked heavily and frowned, vision blurred even more from tears and tried to take a step away from Murdoc, who in turn tightened his grip.

"No."

"No?"

"You're not doing this anymore."

2D swallowed around the lump in his throat and frowned.

"Wa'sat mean? I-I."

Murdoc pulled on his shirt and started to walk, 2D had no choice but to follow, stumbling after him with a heavy frown.

He glanced over at Russel and saw him shake his head, put his sticks down, and sit back. He shared a glance with Murdoc. 2D assumed that was a warning all in itself. Murdoc's grip only tightened and soon enough they were walking away from Russel and the confused camera crew and into an empty hall.

Murdoc released his shirt and 2D rubbed at his neck, meeting Murdoc's glance before looking off to the side.

Murdoc huffed and leaned against the wall, crossing his arms.

"So. You're having some trouble with the video."

2D didn't answer and Murdoc gave him a hard look before continuing.

"We have to get this shoot done today. You keep mes. What should I do, hm?"

He wanted an answer this time. 2D sighed and tapped his fingers against his leg in an age old tic.

"..I dunno. I don't mean to mess up."

"Of course you don't, but you do, and you don't care enough to try and fix it. How are we supposed to get this done if you keep making mistakes!"

2D sniffed and rubbed at his nose, noticing the thick fluid that smeared across his face with the motion. He pulled back to look at it, saw the red staining his hand, and groaned.

"Sorry, sorry."

Murdoc stared at him for a few more tense moments, seemingly going through a torrent of thoughts, before his face softened slightly and he sighed.

"Let's get you cleaned up."

He said simply, gesturing down the hall.

He got up from the wall with a push and walked towards a door on the left.

When they got inside the bathroom Murdoc told him to sit on the toilet lid and reached around in a cupboard for a metal box.

2D had already gotten paper to stem the bleeding in his nose, and watched as Murdoc pulled out a disinfectant wipe from the first aid kit to clean the blood off his face.

"You're a mess."

"Yeah."

He wasn't being sarcastic, it was a simple truth. He was a mess. He knew it. Made him sad sometimes if he thought about it too hard.

Murdoc huffed and pulled out another wipe, trying to scrub a stray stain off his shirt, managing to get it to a light pink on his white collar.

He frowned.

"You really need to focus. You can't be doing this every five minutes. If you keep this up I'll probably clock you, just a fair warning."

2D shuddered.

"Yeah but I can't-I can't help it!"

"What should I do then?"

"I dunno.."

Murdoc knew 2D was thick. He also knew this wasn't exactly 2D's fault, but still, it was a problem and he had to do something about it. They would be doing this same routine all day if he didn't change something.

"Alright then."

Murdoc started, pulling away to toss the bloody wipes into the trash.

"What if I told you that if you can get through this, do the video, no screw ups. If you can do this. We can do something you'd like, yeah?"

2D raised an eyebrow at him.

"What d'you mean?"

"I mean we can go watch that bloody film you keep trying to get everyone to watch, or I can drive you to that, I don't know, buffet you want to try, whatever. If you do this."

2D bit his lip.

"Could I get a pet?"

Murdoc rolled his eyes and sighed.

"I don't even bloody care at this point. Yes. Whatever."

2D perked up, a smile on his face, and for a moment Murdoc was afraid he'd try something dumb like hug him, but 2D just leaned forward more and nodded.

Murdoc pursed his lips and got up and 2D followed, making sure he had stopped bleeding before they both left.

When they got back to the shoot 2D happily went over to his chair and Murdoc sighed and settled back with his bass. The music started up again.

The lyrics began. And 2D nailed it on his first try.

Murdoc almost felt like punching him. He was instead too tired to care, happy to get the video finished.

When 2D came to him the next day asking when he could get his puppy, Murdoc spat out his drink and groaned. He would never say anything like that again. He almost said no, but he knew he had to. 2D had already told Russel and Noodle and if he backed out now there'd be hell to pay, no doubt.

He drove him, waited outside because he hated pet shops, and tried not to grimace when 2D came back out with a grin and a kennel in his arms.

2D brought home a brown mutt with white spots, he named him Max and Max seemed to hate Murdoc.

Whatever. At least they got the video done.

So... I don't really know what this is.

I had no plan to write this it sort of just.. Happened. A lot longer than most of my other stories, I think.

That was so great! This is such a nice story and I love how you made Murdoc show his soft side but still be cranky, cause it totally matches his personality in my opinion. And 2D asking for a puppy nearly melted my heart (or maybe it did melt).

Congrats! I loved it!

I liked this a lot. Very good characterisation on all parts. Murdoc's hidden soft spot for 2D is rarely explored outside of the 2doc fics, and you made it feel organic. Nicely done!
