House Competition Week 2: A Dragon Dreamers Winter

Hello and welcome to my first post for the second week of the house competition series. My house is House Targaryen and for this post I went with an AU short story of if Alicent and Rhaenyra had made up so Helaena and Jaecerys got to be together. Also in this alternate universe Laenor is the father of Rhaenyra’s children. Taking inspiration from a fanfic I read they have Harwin as a lover to both and this helps Laenor perform! It’s been awhile since I’ve written anything but I really wanted a story of these two together and happy. I hope you enjoy!

Context

Its Christmas time in Westeros and the Targaryen/Hightower crew are celebrating. After sitting and talking after her wedding to Viserys, Alicent and Rhaenyra talk and lay all their feelings on the table. Realizing they’ve both lost their mothers and not wanting to loose each other they make up! Because of this Alicent agrees to engage Helaena to Jace. This is their first Christmas as new parents and their second as a married couple.

The sun was shining as Helaena awoke that morning. Outside she heard talking and the sound of birds chirping. She looked over towards her bed and smiled as she heard the sound of Jace groaning as he too awoke. Most couples didn’t share their chambers but neither cared and had elected to share their chambers after they wed. This time of the year was Helaena’s favorite, a time to spread cheer and spend with family. Even if they didn’t get any snow it’s ok she still loved it. This year would be busy as they spent half of the winter in the north with the Starks and the other half in Kings landing with their family.

After giving a soft kiss to her husband she made her way towards her wardrobe to get dressed. Today they left for winterfell. After donning her riding clothes she turned to see Jaecerys wearing his as well. He gives her a soft smile before speaking “While you get the children ready I’ll go and make sure the dragons are ready to go.” She nodded as he left the bed chambers. They had already sent the ships ahead so they arrived on time. It would only be a two day ride on dragon back for them. She made her way out and towards the children’s chambers. A year old and already the twins had so much personality.

Entering she was met with the children’s maids who already had them dressed and ready to go. Their eggs hadn’t hatched but she had no doubt they would claim their own dragons when they were ready. After thanking the ladies she grabs her children and makes her way to the pit. As she walks she speaks to her children “Alissa and Visenya listen closely little angels. We’re going to visit your uncle Cregan and aunt Rhaenys. I want you to be your best and most adorable selves!” Helaena was excited to be visiting Rhaenys and Cregan. She knew Jace missed his twin sister and was excited to visit as well. She felt a little kick in her belly and smiled. They didn’t know if was another set she was having but she was excited none the less. They hadn’t told anyone yet, Cregan and Rhaenys would be the first to know.

Once reaching the pot she hands Visenya to Jace and straps Alissa to herself. Once both of them have mounted their dragons they take off and make their way to winterfell.(Time Skip) As they were flying on their second day Dreamfire and Vermax both gave happy roars as Winterfell came into view. In the distance she her the happy response of Rhaenys dragon Nightmare. Looking closer she saw Rhaenys and Cregan standing there with baby Danalei in Rhaenys arms and little Brandon standing next to Cregan. After landing they dismounted and the two dragons flew off towards the pit. As though she had a sixth sense Rhaenys gave Helaena a knowing look. They would definitely speak later. With little Visenya in his arms Jace immediately embraces his sister before hugging Cregan. Helaena does the same with little Alissa in her arms. As they walked towards the castle Rhaenys leans towards her as their husbands walk ahead “so how far along are you Laena. I’m about three moons myself.” Smiling at Rhaenys suprise news Helaena responds “About four. You two are the first we’ve told since finding out.” Rhaenys excitedly hugged her as they entered the keeps walls.

As they retired to their guest chambers for the night Helaena was excited to see what their time in Winterfell would be like. The next day found the little family outside bundled and having fun in the snow. As the men played with the children Rhaenys and Helaena sat on a blanket and observed them. As she watched Helaena thought about the future she almost saw happen in her dreams. She shuddered to think of what would have happened had her mother not reconciled with Rhaenyra. Due to that reconciling she was allowed to marry her best friend and everyone was much happier for it. She gave an angelic laugh as Brandon aimed a snowball at Jace and struck.

As the day drew to a close Helaena convinced Jace to take a walk through the snow covered gardens of Winterfell. Rhaenys had managed to find plants and flowers that could survive the weather here and Helaena was happy that she had. Jace smiled at the beautiful woman on his arm “tell me my love what goes through your head as we walk” She giggled at his words before responding “I have a feeling we will get another girl and our first little boy. I would love to name them Laenor and Alicent. What do you think?” In response Jace gave her a kiss full of love and want. Snow covered them as they stood in the gardens of winterfell but Helaena didnt care. She had everything she wanted right here and wouldnt change it for anything!
