Today we will be going over Spanish Metaphors and their meanings! There will be Enlgish translations but that doesn't mean that they will make any sense. These are not all but some of the ones that are used often. Take your time to genuinely practice them and I hope you enjoy!

1. A lo hecho, pecho

Translation ⇒ When you have done something, show your chest

Meaning

:large_blue_diamond: In simpler this saying is a way to put you back in your head. It states or is meant to tell you that what has been done is done, theres nothing to change the past and therefore you must deal with the consequences of that action with your chest puffed, or head up.

2. Dime con quién andas, y te diré quién eres.

Translation ⇒ Tell me who you're with and I'll tell you who you are.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: Basically this proverb is meant to show that ones social associations or affiliations are more powerful than one may come to believe. The saying is meant to reference ones own true self.

3. A falta de pan usa tortillas.

Translation ⇒ When theres no bread use tortillas.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: This can be translates in two ways. (1) If theres not this, we will have to do with that or (2) We will have to make due with the resources we have now.

4. Gato con guantes no caza ratones.

Translation ⇒ A cat with gloves doesnt catch mice.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: Have you ever heard the saying "You're going to have to get your hands dirty to accomplish something?" This is basically the translation of the proverb above, it can also be used to degrades someones commitement to a task. By saying this you can be telling them that because of their status they wouldnt get their hands dirty.

Don't say that though, be nice.

5. Ojos que no ven, corazón que no siente.

Translation ⇒ Eyes that don't see, heart that doesn't feel.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: Haha, so this is a little tricky because asking around the phrase itself can mean many things so I will just give you the most used reason. In a way the phrase goes along with being oblivious to something, for example; let's say that your lover/gf/bf/etc. is cheating on you but because you have no evidence you refuse to see the fact. Therefore you don't really feel anything until you have evidence.

6. Al mal tiempo, buena cara

Translation ⇒ At a bad time have a good face.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: Even in the face of bad situations, don't let it get to you, have a calm face. Be positive!

7. Con amigos así no hace falta enemigos.

Translation ⇒ With friends like that you don't need enemies.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: The translation basically tells you what this one means. In the end the people who you might consider friends will backstab you.

8. Camarón que se duerme se lo lleva la corriente.

Translation ⇒ Shrimp that fall asleep are swept by the current.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: A person that has the opportunity to do something, whether it be to go to college or get a job, but falls asleep or becomes lazy will not have a chance like that again. Another translation can be that by avoiding responsibilities one will be thrown much work and no time to rest.

9. A bueno entendedor pocas palabras bastan.

Translation ⇒ Those who are understanding need little words.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: A person who understands won't stall you by making you explain your plan detail by detail. He will need few words and understand you entirely.

10. Tanto va la agua al cántaro que revienta.

Translation ⇒ You put so much water into the pot that soon it explodes.

Meaning:

:large_blue_diamond: By pressuring someone so much you are ultimately pushing them to the brink. If you keep pressuring them, they will inevitably explode.
