Mario Kart 8D VS CTR Nitro Fueled Part 2

Hey guys, this is the part two of mine and Lv100Nerd collaboration that we are doing to decide which game is better.

Why Is This Version Of MK8D An Enhanced Port?

JackPack’s Argument

This is the enhanced port of the game, becuase it introduces a whole revamped battle mode and tracks to go along with them, all new characters, and all of the DLC included from the original game, so what’s not to love about this version it’s phenomenal and what a Mario Kart game should be!

Why Is MK8D A Better Port Than CTR Nitro Fueled?

The reason that MK8D is better than CTR is becuase CTR’s has a way worse loading time with being way to long and that the graphics aren’t the best to offer for a racing game.

Why Is CTRNF Better Than MK8D At Being An Enhanced Port?

Nerd’s Argument

CTRNF’s enhanced port is way better than MK8D’s. Mario Kart 8 had just been released for the Wii U just a few years before Deluxe was released. The original CTR was created for the PS1. This series, by making an enhanced version in 2019, is introducing players to the world of CTR. MK8 did not need a deluxe version as only three new characters were added, no new tracks and a battle mode that only was good for the first hour. CTR has a wild variety of characters, good music, good tracks and a much needed enhanced version so people could be introduced to the series.

MK8D’s Battle Mode!

JackPack’s Argument

So in the original MK8 there wasn’t really a full on fleshed out battle mode it was pretty dull and boring in my opinion which made me sad becuase, I really enjoy battle mode and to see it be barely acknowledged in the original made it such a let down however, MK8D turned that all upside down with it’s all new revamped battle mode featuring 5 new battle modes along with 8 new stages some of my favorite battle modes include Renegade Roundup and Shine Thief two outstanding battle modes! Oh and did I forget the tracks like oh my lord these are some of the best tracks I’ve ever seen for example Wuhu Town, Luigi’s Mansion, Urchin Under, Lunar Colony, Sweet Sweet Kingdom and of course Battle Course 1!

I will explain each battle mode now

Balloon Battle- Balloon Battle is where you fight to the death essentially just with balloon and your objective is to get as many balloon as possible to win or kill everyone you can but, they will respond. Play aggressively o win this game mode and this time it’s even more chaos with two item slots so always be alert :rotating_light: . The best stage to play this mode on are Sweet Sweet Kingdom, Dragon Place, and Luigi’s Mansion.

Bob-omb Blast- This is basically the battle royal style of mode where your shot your bombs at opposing players to gain there balloons :balloon: . It will be hectic with having two item slots and bombs being thrown left and right so always pay close attention or you won’t see it coming. Wuhu Town is the best stage to play this mode on.

Renegade Roundup- My favorite battle modes out of the 5 we got and this one is also new! This game mode is cops and robbers Mario kart style where one team is the cops and the other is the robbers so, basically for robbers they have to get away from the cops in time before they get eaten up by the prihana plants and then the cops have to successfully catch all the robbers before the time runs out or they lose. The robbers get thrown in jail if they are caught but, another teammate can come save the day by driving over the button mechanism directly below the jail cell to free everyone. The best stage to play this game mode on is Battle Course 1 and Urchin Under.

Coin Runners- This battle mode is simple you just collect as many coins as you possibly can before the time runs out but watch out for the hazards or you’ll have to retrieve your coins. You should mainly go after the pack leader so you can twiddle there coins down while also in the process of doing that getting some for yourself. Best played stage is Luigi’s Mansion.

Shine Thief- My second favorite out of the 5. This is basically a huge game of tag where there is a golden sun :sunny: item that everyone needs to grab and if you hold onto it long enough you win! If you hit a player with an item you will knock it out of there possession giving you the chance to take the glory. You should mainly use a mushroom to get away from the people chasing you down so you can tick off time from the clock. The best stage to play this one on is Lunar Colony.

Nerds Argument

CTRNF Battle Mode

Ok so there are five different battle modes to CTRNF - Capture The Flag, Limit Battle, Crystal Grab, Last Kart Driving and Steal The Bacon. All these game modes are very fun! Let’s go a little in detail with these games modes:

Limit Battle - there are three different “limit battles” being Time Limit, Lives Limit and Point Limit. All of these are basically the same, have as many points or kills as possible at the end. They are all very fun!

Capture The Flag - Very self explanatory! But here’s the twist, you can’t score if the opponent has your flag, even if you captured their’s! It makes for a very fun and hectic game mode! It reminds me a lot of Overwatch’s CTF!

Crystal Grab - First person to grab 20 crystals wins! But the match won’t end if you have the most crystals no no, you have to steal the opponent’s as well! This game mode is pretty cool!

Last Kart Standing - Again, pretty self explanatory. Last person standing wins! This is very similar to Ballon Battle in MK8D. So I would tie it with MK.

Steal The Bacon - Same as Capture The Flag, except the twist is that there is only one flag in the middle, and your team has to capture it! If you want your heart racing, this is the game mode for you!

JackPack’s Argument

There were 6 new characters introduced in MK8D which have never been playable in any of the other entry’s of games and you can unlock them immediately!

These characters include King Boo, Dry Bones, Bowser Jr., Inkling Boy and Girl, and Gold Mario.

Gold Mario you unlock from getting all 3 stars on every cup in 200cc

Now I think we can all agree that at least out of all of these characters that Boswer Jr. out of all of them should have been included from the original game like why do the other 7 koopalings get each there own dedicated slot in the roster for each of them when they could have gone to much more deserving characters that people would have actually enjoyed like Petey Piranha, Wiggler, Birdo, Diggy Kong, Funky Kong, and even Kamek, and E. Gadd would have been much more plausible and just overall better candidates for this roster and would have made it so much better but, then they didn’t have the audacity to add my boy Bowser Jr. in there like what the heck he’s Bowser’s son for crying out loud this wasn’t a good idea from the developers of the game but, at least he’s playable now!

Nerd’s Argument

Nitros Oxide is now playable, having only been a boss character in the original game, and was only playable via cheat devices. Chick Grizzard Lips and Stew made it in and Yaya Panda who was playable Crash Nitro Kart 2, Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D, and Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 2 is now playable again.

Characters can be unlocked from the Grand Prix such as Spyro The Dragon, Baby T. Doctor Nitrus Brio, Komodo Moe, Koala Kong, Rilla Roo, Nina Cortex, Mega-Mix, and the nitro squad consisting of Tawana and the trophy girls from the original game.

Dislikes About MK8D

JackPack’s Argument

#1 No Skins for the racers

Like for example Tanooki Mario, Metal and Gold Mario should have just been skins for regular Mario and same goes for Cat Peach and Pink Gold Peach should have gone with Peach. The 7 koopalings should have been skins for Bowser Jr. and Yoshi should have had different skin colors along with Koopa Troopa having different colors for its shell and then even Koopa Paratroopa also. Luckily they are making characters with skins in Mario Kart Tour so maybe it’ll happen in the next Mario Kart game I hope.

#2 No New Race Tracks

This was a real bummer for me becuase I love every single Mario Kart 8 Deluxe track there is and it would have been great for them to add like around 8 to 16 new tracks for us to play on but, sadly that didn’t end up happening I’m just hoping at this point we get DLC for the game.

#3 The Online Sucks

This is a real shame because, back on the original game I would play races online against people and it would most of the time always work and I would usually get top 3 which made me want to keep racking up those points and I was wanting to do the same thing in MK8D but, now it really doesn’t want to cooperate which I never understood why and it’s always bothered me because, I love this game to death and I’m very good at it and highly competitive so I was really looking forward to playing it online however, I can still host my tournaments without a problem so that’s a relief.

It only works mainly at hotels for time though so if anyone knows how to fix that issue I would highly appreciate it.

Nerd’s Argument

#1 Drifting

This mechanic just sucks in comparison to MK8’s drifting. You have to press buttons at the right time to get a boost, and it’s more than just one. When I first started playing, I never understood the mechanic, and guess what? The game doesn’t tell you how to do it! I had to freaking Google how to drift. This annoys the crap out of me.

#2 Map Layout

This goes hand and hand with the drifting issue. The maps are designed for either very sharp drifts or very wide drifts, which sucks if you don’t know how to drift. You’ll end up hitting a wall or falling off the map, which can put you all the way in last. The maps are cool, but the layout isn’t.

#3 Relic Run + Others

If you’ve done a little bit of the story, you’ll know that there are three extra game modes besides the normal race. But my least favorite is Relic Run. Basically, you have to find three relics scattered throughout the map. This sucks! Again, I had to look up a guide as to where these were, which I absolutely hate doing. This mode sucks, and could definitely be improved.
