Thank you for the feature! I’m actually ready to cry lol \(( °ω° ))/

Hello, Dumdums and Yamyams! This is my entry for the #FallFestivalDIY challenge. I decided to make this sweater before I seen the challenge, but since nobody made doll clothes I entered. I got the yarn last month when my sister sent me pictures asking what I wanted, so I saw the red and cream and thought of Foxy or Mangle and I thought since his colors were more spooky/fall themed I settled with Foxy.

What would you have changed?

Well, I wish I didn’t do this without a plan instead of watching a video and looking up a sweater pattern.

I also regret not splitting the yarn before I started because the stitches would’ve been smaller and tighter so they would’ve matched the scale of Alouette a lot more and it wouldn’t look oversized.

What do you hate about it?

I do dislike how clunky it looks in general because I only thought of splitting yarn before I made the sleeves.

I also hate that I forgot to count my stitches and take notes on what rows I added a stitch. It’s easier than eyeballing it. I also hate that it got all linty because I left it out while I was working on it...

Time taken:

Started on August 29th, Finished on September 17th due to me only working on it at 12:00 and stopping at 3 AM each night.

Materials:

Yarn, Crochet hooks, Scissors, basic knowledge of crocheting, thread and needle to sew pieces, and patience.

Here is a playlist I made that you really should watch first.

I will try my best to explain what I did, but please don’t take this as a serious tutorial because I’m only a level higher than an amateur at crocheting. I chose to do this because knitting is tedious and crocheting is easier and faster. I suggest you to change some things and add your own spin on this template. Be creative!

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Start with a chain that fits around your dolls waist. Do 2 rows of slip stitches and continue with single crochets. The slip stitches will make the yarn go inward so it looks like a real hoodie.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Check if it isn’t too tight, I left some room for a zipper and I wanted it to look a little baggy. Continue single crocheting until you stop at the dolls armpits. Make sure you have a even space in the middle and it’s not offset. Also be careful if you plan on decreasing on higher rows by skipping a stitch because that should be done very sparingly. (Although it makes it smaller at the top, I suggest trying it a few times to get it right.)

[C]Hello, Dumdums and
Please excuse Alouette without her wig.

Basically you are going to do a few rows on both sides until you cover the front of the arms.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Count the rows you make so they will be the same size, unlike what I did here; but it should be the same shape.

I know it’s not in English but it’s going help you understand how to crochet like this.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Now you sew it.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

As for the hood, make a strip that is big enough to go over the dolls head. I made mine a bit long, and you could start with a row of slip stitches if you want to.

Please keep in mind there’s probably better methods to make this. Just simply look up doll sewing patterns.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

When I sewed the strip, I left a small space uncovered so I could fit her hair through it, but that’s optional. Make a magic circle that is small enough and sew it on.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and
When you legit have to censor your cuticles cuz gore 👁 :lips: 👁

Now we’ll pause for a minute and work on the belly. (I already sewed the zipper on but it’s optional.) If I was making a pullover, I would’ve just made a big enough magic circle but in this case I had to make half circles. This was a suffering since I had to add extra stitches in but I didn’t write everything down so it was hard making the other one.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Use the first one for reference and you should be ok.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Now we’ll make the ears. This is difficult because I started out with around five stitches and increased gradually so they could be bowl shaped. Then I did a row or two(?) of slip stitches so they could curl inward.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

They should look something like that.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Now for the tail... I started with a magic circle and made it gradually bigger.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

When I decided where to end the tip, I chained two or three and then continued into the next stitch. This made spikes but keep in mind you get an ugly gap so you can probably use a different method. Basically I made a red tube that gradually gets bigger and sewed them together and stuffed it with black fabric.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Okay, this is what I got so far. I decided not to sew on the tail because I just use a Bobby pin to make it detachable. When sewing the belly, you could also leave openings for pockets but I chose not to.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

For the sleeves, I just measured rectangles that fit around the dolls arms because I can’t really take off her hands to make them in the round. Get your secondary color and crochet 3 rows of slip stitches. Then sew them on one end of the sleeves. Now you can sew your sleeves shut.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

Also, to leave the side that bumps out on the slip stitch pieces on the inside of the sleeve.

[C]Hello, Dumdums and

And now we’re finally done! I hope your hands aren’t cramping out too badly! Overall, I definitely think it was a good first shot and I think I’ll remake it in the distant future. When I was outside taking these pictures though, I did get severe bug bites on my ankle and I could barely walk afterwards but it was still fun. Thanks for reading, and I hope it was worth it.

See you next time!
