There is a lamppost in my town
That only works just once a year,
A bit old, kind of rusty, though
It never failed to do its work,
Again, it flickered into life,
Signalling now of what will come,
It's like a ghost light, luring prey
Into the realm of dark abyss,
Besides the lamp, a wooden bench
That scares whoever sits on it,
I hid my fear and sat on it,
Waiting and waiting and waiting,
There is a lamppost in my town
That only works just once a year,
And for every time it does work,
It's said to bring old misfortunes,
The eerie light's rather calming,
It soothes and heals and relaxes
All of my worries I have now,
Replaced with happy thoughts and dreams,
Besides the lamp, a wooden bench
That was once said to be haunted
By a woman, scorned all because
Of rumours and lies that were spread,
There is a lamppost in my town
That says to beckon all the ghosts,
But I've yet to confirm this tale
That may have been false after all,
I was ed by an old lady,
Ah, the granny just down the lane,
She sat besides me, by the bench,
And told me of stories unheard,
Captivating, mysterious,
All of these stories that she told,
I wanted more, to hear them more,
So she invited me for tea,
I left behind the old lamppost
As well as the old haunted bench,
I went and followed granny dear
to her home for idle chatter,
And that was the end of the story,
The final words in this old journal,
Grandma said they found grandpa's notebook
By the lamp post, a few steps away,
I went to visit this fabled place
Where they said was haunted by a ghost,
I took a seat at the wooden bench,
The last place my grandfather was seen,
Not long after, an old granny came,
Oh, she's the one that lives down the lane,
She told me she knew of my sad tale,
And that she was willing to tell me,
Captivated by stories unknown,
I felt excitement— she knew granddad!
She asked if I could come to her home,
And without a doubt, I replied yes!
So I left behind the old lamppost
As well as the so-called haunted bench,
I went ahead to follow granny
into her home for idle chatter.

Very well written! You set the mood perfectly, I felt like I was sitting on that bench too. My only critique is that when you revealed that she's actually reading from her grandfather's journal it confused me a bit coz the whole time I was imagining her sitting on that bench
Yup, the transition's wee bit of a problem.
I wanted it to start from the narrator reading from their granddad's journal, then transition it to the narrator themselves visiting the bench.
Anyway, I'm still happy that you think that this is well written!
