Q: What's the best temperature to keep a betta in?

A: Bettas can survive in a wide range of temperatures, but 76-82 degrees Fahrenheit is the general range of water temperature to keep a betta in, so they can thrive! Make sure to also try and keep the temperature of a tank as consistent as possible! Fluctuations can be quite harmful so keeping the temperature stable is important. (Hence why a heater is always needed even if you live in a hot area.)

It was pitch black and gradually getting colder. Utterly unaware of his surroundings, Buzby bounced off the sides of a confined space as he was carelessly tossed around. Confused but resisting to lose the will to live, his unwavering tenacity and strength fuelled his fight for stability until the water stilled once again.

Muffled voices could be heard as slender fingers fumbled into Buzby's box. His bag swayed back and forth as it was unpackaged and finally unwrapped. Momentarily blinded by fluorescent lights, Buzby strenuously thrashed towards who he assumed was his attacker.

After a brief glance to ensure the betta was still alive, the pet store worker carelessly snipped a hole in the bag and Buzby hastily splashed into a small cup. He slowly regained his bearings and darted in dizzying circles around the new walls that confined him. Water sloshed over the plastic rim as he was carried to his designated section of the store.

He was placed on a shelf among countless other fish under yet another dazzling white light. Buzby flared frantically at the fish surrounding his cup. There was no escape from his rivals who continued to mercilessly close in on him.

He soon came to realize that his surroundings weren't a threat. Each time he charged at the other bettas, the deceivingly clear barrier withstood every ounce of his force and fury.

As the days dragged on, Buzby's hunger intensified while his cup slowly grew clouded. He half-heartedly noticed the exchange of his neighbours, most of their fragile frames floating lifelessly near the surface of the water until they were eventually detected and cleared away.

Refusing to give in to the dark grip of death, Buzby poured every last ounce of his effort into keeping his body upright and his heart beating.

Eagerly awaiting the results, Sawyer squeezed the final drops of his parameter test kit into the line of test tubes. After a couple of minutes, every last color had developed. His heart skipped a beat as the readings were spot on. It seemed like it had taken years for his tank to cycle, but it was finally ready to house his new companion.

Without wasting any time, he hopped into his truck and headed to the pet store.

In his excitement, Sawyer nearly forgot to pull on his mask before heading inside. After stopping at the hand sanitizing station, he headed straight for the betta section.

He scanned row after row of fish, slowly stepping side to side and occasionally leaning in to get a better look at the wide array of tail types and patterns. Sawyer's breath caught and he stopped in his tracks as his eyes locked on a speckled yellow plakat. He gingerly picked up the cup and ired the fish whose beard was now showing.

"You're coming home with me little guy," he whispered elatedly.

Back at the house he began acclimating his new scaly friend.

After about half an hour the process was completed, and Sawyer tipped the cup to release him into his new territory.

Buzby swam frantically towards the back of the cup, oblivious to the freedom that was now within reach.

A slight smile tugged at the corners of Sawyer's mouth. "Wrong way, silly."

He gently tilted the cup even further until Buzby had no choice but to slide into the water.

Curiosity overcame the dappled yellow fish as he was able to stretch his fins and swim in a straight line for the first time in his life.

Sawyer contentedly watched his new friend zip around the aquarium as Buzby continued to explore every inch of his final destination, blissfully unaware he would be living out the rest of his days in this spacious paradise.
