Special thanks to Neon for
agreeing to be interviewed in our staff
magazine!
Hello Neon! To start us off, why did you WA?
My friend low-key pressured me to get Amino over the summer going into my freshman year and I was like woW this is a cool place and then thought "hey I like to write on Wattpad" so I looked up Wattpad and behold. WA.
:pensive:  What was your first post?
The traditional: "heY you should read my story please".
It wasn't even good I don't think I had a real synopsis of my story either :joy:
Doesn't your wattpad story have a ton of reads now? :eyes:
My first draft had like 3.6K but my new draft has a lot less cause I haven't been updating it :')
Ah, gotcha. What's your book about?
It's a fantasy story in a utopian kingdom. Basically some of the people in this world, called Serafs, can control magic once their blood is exposed to the air, and in this Kingdom they're treated as demons and discriminated against. The story follows the main character who is a Seraf and is detained by the King and forced, along with other Serafs, to dispel a growing rebellion in the kingdom. They're like the Spec. Ops. Of the medieval era lmao.
Sounds cool ;) What is your favorite piece of writing you've written so far?
uM I don't really know. I love all my writing, except for the horrible ones that never get posted or shown to anyone, and I love them all for different reasons. Like I love my second draft, and even my first draft, of Written in Blood just because I'm in love with my characters. But I also love some of the short stories I've written, like "Him" and "Stardust", because I have an emotional connection to them and am proud I was able to portray those emotions to others :')
Sweet! Do you tend to write a certain genre?
Fantasy is my home boy, but I also dabble in a bit of Teen Fic
Fantasy is the bomb :ok_hand: Do those apply for your reading genre as well?
Yup. Throw in a little Sci-Fi, Drama, and Historical Fiction is there too. I'll read whatever you throw at me tbh.
I can't read straight romance tho, have to have some action in there toO
What got you interested in becoming staff on here?
I was on the Amino for about half a year? at that point when applications finally came out, and I and already been helping out in the old Volunteer Initiative and had a lot of great friends on here so it just seemed like a natural progression to try for staff
Ah, gotcha. WA was tiny tiny back then, ye? 🤧 Cause when I ed there were around 20,000 .
The applications came out for the 15,000 member mark. (I think it was 15. Either 15 or 10,000)
Cool! What other communities are you in on amino?
The ones I go on are: Art Amino, Hetalia Amino, Army Amino, and Seventeen Amino :ok_hand:
Nice :3 do you mainly draw people?
Yup exclusive to people, anything else does not end up well :joy:
It's ok I relate :') will you be posting some more of your art anytime soon?
Probably :eyes: I have a bunch stocked up, ow as debating doing an Art Dump post soon :')
Do itttt :smirk: Are your drawings mainly of celebrities?
Mhm mainly, but I do have some OC'S thrown in there :ok_hand:
Cool!
Moving on to our next topic, what music do you like?
K-pop is a bop
I also listen to some alternative, remixes, and Billie Eilish is also full of bops.
BTw if you haven't send the like sub genre of remixes on YouTube where it's "*insert song here* but it's raining" or "but you're in a cafe" and other related ones, liSten to them they are so relaxing and peaceful
Oo I will check it out! Thanks for the tip ^^ What are your favorite kpop bands?
BTS, Seventeen, Day6, and The Rose are my favorites but I do listen to a few others occasionally :')
Nice :ok_hand: So I get kpop is a genre, but aren't there genres in kpop? So genres in the genre? (Clearly I'm a bit clueless)
Sort of? It's not like there's official genres, but people tend to generally unofficially group some music. The closest thing I've ever really seen to sub genres in K-pop are boy groups, girl groups, solo artists, and mix groups.
Ahh, ok, I get it.
Now, welcome to History Lesson No. 1. Tell everyone the history behind your lemon emoji
okay sO :joy:
Back when I was a curator with Kal, Error, Var, and Sylver (they're old staff ) there was an ongoing 'ship' (kinda like Alphace) that we had between Sylver and Error called Sylor and to represent we stood by this ship we put lemon emojis in our names. Tbh idk why it was a lemon, but it stuck and now we still have it just as a sentimental kind of thing :')
Awhh, bless 🤧 cuties.
How about this quote? I've been wondering about it ever since I clicked on your bio 🤧
Kim Jong-hyun, you did well.
Last December, the K-pop idol Kim Jong-hyun from SHINee took his own life due to depression.
I personally wasn't super into the band, but hearing about how he was struggling for so long and hearing him voice his struggles in his songs, yet it still led to that, really hit home to me, and I had other personal issues going on around that time, so it made me him and how lucky I am to have all of what I have even more. It's just a commemoration to him and his life.
Ohh, I that. People should definitely be thankful for what they have. Do you have any tips for anyone whose struggling out there?
Just keep going, it may not seem like it, but it does get better. There's always light at the end of the tunnel. And don't be afraid to use a system, there are people who care about you and won't judge you for whatever you're going through :') :two_hearts:
And if anyone doesn't have someone to talk to and feels comfortable with it, I'd be happy to talk with you
:ok_hand: How about the future? Do you have any idea where you would like to live?
Honestly, I don't know exActly where I want to live, honestly wherever my job takes me since I'm planning to the Air Force. I'd really love to travel and spend a few years in foreign countries, but I hope after a while I can settle down in maybe the north east U.S.
Or find my roots back in the south where it's not as cold lmao. We'll see :')
Ahh yess, any key places you want to visit?
China because I'm planning on getting a degree in Chinese Language and Culture, Italy cause I have roots there, and just wherever I'm taken with the job, I'd love to just be able to explore any places offered :')
Fancy Fancy :dancer: Are you currently taking Chinese?
Not yet, but I will be taking it next year
Nice! Is that the only language you're interested in learning?
Not the only Language, but the first one I do want to commit to learning. I'd honestly love to learn as many Languages as possible, but beyond Chinese, I'm just gonna see where life takes me and what opportunities appear for mee
I see. What about hobbies? Any you'd like to learn?
For hobbies I would like to learn, I think playing an instrument would be amazing. I really love string instruments so learning the cello or violin would be awesome tbh
Cool! Would you consider ing a band, or just playing it for fun?
Just for fun, I'm already in too many extracurriculars and my school doesn't have an orchestra, so it would just be a fun thing for me :')
What about writing? Would you consider pursuing that professionally?
Becoming a professional author, most likely not. But I do want to enter the Government after my time in the military, and I'll be able to use writing a lot there. I'm always going to write just for fun though, it's a great hobby to have and I love it.
Nice! NCIS? Or are you more focused on air force?
ATM, I'm not sure if I'll pursue a career in the military or not, but if not I'm really interested in the FBI or CIA. I have family that were in them so I've already seen a lot, and it's a really cool job.
Lit :ok_hand: On our next topic, do you have any books to recommend? (Electronic or paper/hardback)
I have to recommend Six of Crows and Red Rising! They are both some of the best books I've ever read, both beautifully written, and both left a long lasting impact on me.
Yesss, I love the first one. Haven't heard of the second one though, what is it about?
It's a really in depth plot so it's hard to explain, but basically in this space society, all people are organized by color and put in a hierarchy system with Red the lowest, tons of colors in between, and Gold as the highest. The story follows the protagonist that s a Red rebellion and gets an illegal surgery to turn him into a Gold. It follow through him being a spy as a Gold and trying to destroy the hierarchy. It's basically the hunger games in space, but better
That sounds awesome! Who's the author?
Pierce Brown :') he's an absolutely stunning writer
I'll check him out! Any other favorite writers?
Holly Black and Leigh Bardugo are :ok_hand: :two_hearts:
Nice nice! Now, to finish us off, do you have any tips for aspiring authors? ^^
My advice for new writers is to just keep writing! The best way to improve anything is practice, so keep writing, don't get discouraged, seek advice, and just keep going :)
