Trying to Stan Victon in 1 Week

I’m going to keep this intro quick because this post is long enough already.

~ Part One: Current Knowledge ~

I know very little about Victon going into this challenge. This is literally it:

• They’re under the same company as Apink (PlayM I think?)

• There’s a member named Han Seungwoo that was in X1 and who everyone is in love with

• There are at least two with Chan somewhere in their name

And here are the Victon songs that I have heard before:

• Howling

• Mayday

• Time of Sorrow

• Eyez Eyez

• Me

• Nostalgic Night

• Sacrifice (Seungwoo solo)

Howling and Sacrifice are really the only ones that are in my regular rotation. To be completely honest, I don’t really what the other ones sound like. But never fear, I will be re-listening to them during this week!

And... that’s about it! That’s what I’m going into this challenge with. During this week, I will be attempting to learn all about Victon, including their names, faces, personalities, and songs. At the end of the week, I will be answering the question:

Am I an Alice now?

(the answer will probably be yes)

~ Part Two: Talking to Alices ~

Honestly, I was feeling a little intimidated to start this challenge. Excited, but nervous. So before I started getting deep into learning Victon, I wanted to talk to some fans for tips on telling the apart, song & video recommendations, etc.

Yadi

First she recommended that I watch their mafia dance for MayDay (which I will on the correct day! I’m looking forward to it).

Her favorite song from Victon is Time of Sorrow. She recommended that I check out TVicton on their YouTube channel.

She also taught me a little about each of the ! The maknae Subin is babied by the a lot, despite his protests. Byungchan has two dimples and an adorable smile. Hanse is always breaking gender norms and has a lot of tattoos, plus a nose lip piercing. Sejun is another visual with dimples. Chan is a main dancer with dimples (aww so many dimples). Then of course Seungwoo (cyn we’re both looking at you), who is lead everything (love a well rounded man). And finally the leader and main vocalist Seungsik.

She told me the precious story of their first win and how they called out to Seungwoo, who was with X1 at the time.

She gave me a video to help tell the apart! I will be watching that on Day 2. She thinks that Victon has very distinct features that set them apart, also that Hanse is a big e-boi so you see that, it's Hanse, especially the latter comebacks. For songs, she recommended Howling, Stay with me, timeline, I'm fine, me, and The Chemistry. She also recommended I watch TVicton and their transonglation.

~ Part Three: The Week ~

And so it begins...

Day 1: ’ Names

Goal: memorize all the full names of the Victon

I decided to start with the , because then when I’m watching the other videos I can practice identifying them.

To accomplish today’s goal, I’m going to be using a few different methods. First I’m going to try to memorize just with pencil and paper. That’s right, I’m going to be writing their names over and over like you would do in detention (at least in movies).

Because this probably won’t work fast enough on its own, I’ll be using some online quizzes.

Results

I did it! I can now name all of the Victon (including family name). It was helpful that none of them use stage names. This success will make the rest of the week much easier.

Day 2: ’ Faces

Goal: match the names to the

Now that I know all the names of the , I’m going to try to tell them apart. The only I can do this for to start are Seungwoo and, to a point, Hanse (now that I finally have a name to put to his face).

To accomplish my goal, I will be watching this video that Cyn sent me! She warned me that it’s kinda intense because they’re staring into your soul, but I think it will be helpful.

Okay it was pretty intense, some of them looked bored and some of them looked extremely uncomfortable. But honestly I don’t blame them because having a camera that close to my face would make me feel weird too. It was a good intro to learning their faces and voices though.

I’ll also be using some online quizzes again, but this time with their faces instead of just names.

Results

So... I partially succeeded. I think I’ll have them down by the end of the week, but now I’m only halfway there. Without fail I can recognize Seungwoo and Hanse. I’m usually able to recognize Seungsik, Chan, and Byungchan, because they have pretty distinctive features. However, I really struggled with Sejun and Subin. I either mixed them up with each other or with other . I honestly don’t know how, but I will persevere!

Day 3: Title Tracks

Goal: listen to all their title tracks

Because this post is going to be extremely long as it is, I’m not going to go into my opinions on all the songs. I’ll give it a rating out of 10 and say if I ed it, but if you’d like me to go into more detail about a specific song, feel free to ask!

Other than that, there’s not much to explain for today, so let’s just get started!

My favorite songs are Me and Howling. I was also impressed at how they were able to pull off so many different styles.

Results

Once again, I ed every song. I loved being able to hear more of their amazing vocals. Hanse has mastered soft raps, which works really well for their b-sides. My favorite song from this section is Nightmare.

Day 5: Live Stages

Goal: see some cool choreo! and maybe even hear some live vocals :eyes:

I chose to watch live stages of my two favorite title tracks, Me and Howling, as well as of their most recent comeback, Mayday. I also watched one of Nightmare just for fun. I really liked that song :eyes:

I really like Hanse’s outfit. I mean the styling in general for this stage is A+ (or maybe A- because that denim jacket kinda sticks out weirdly) but his in particular is very nice.

I am no vocal expert, so I honestly can’t tell if they’re singing live. If they were they sounded really good, and if they weren’t I get it, that choreo looked tough. I’m a fan though.

I love this setup. We love a budget upgrade. Styling is A+ for sure this time.

Is the sitting human... Byungchan? I usually identify him by his eyes but they all kinda have hair in their face. Seungwoo, Hanse, Seungsik, Chan, and Subin are all ed for. So it’s either Byungchan or Sejun, but according to the opening, the blue haired one is Sejun. So it must be Byungchan right? Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Okay I actually watched this stage twice because I spent the whole first time trying to figure out the :sob: send help

Second time around I could really focus on the choreo, which I really love. It accentuates the song very well.

Love the intro. Very grungy and mysterious.

The styling is a little boring in this one, but it’s not bad and fits the concept, which is the important thing.

I adore the setting. The red smoke, the sparks, the lighting situation, it’s all very stimulating. The choreo is simple but nice. Overall a very cool stage.

THIS. Oh it’s so haunting and I love it. The way they hit every beat while staring into the camera gives me chills. Also harnesses? Yes please.

Results

I’m really impressed with Victon’s dance skills. They move as a unit, and it’s very satisfying to watch. I also like that instead of trying to make the most difficult, show stopping choreo ever, their choreo serves its song.

Day 6: TVicton

Goal: get to know the ’ personalities

I decided to watch the five most recent episodes of TVicton (127-131). I was really looking forward to today, as I was told by my Alice s that they are really adorable.

Results

Can confirm that they are, in fact, really adorable. They’re silly and kinda stupid but in a cute way.

I also like that the episodes are really short. It makes them more digestible, and as new episodes come out, I won’t need to commit to a 15-30 minute long video. Because those tend to end up as one of my many, many youtube tabs that never get watched.

The episodes are also really random, which is refreshing in the sea of vlogs and behind the scenes. Like one was just a compilation of someone acting like a clapboard? Quality content.

Day 7: Extra Videos

Goal: get to know the ’ personalities even more, and just have some fun

First, this video, which was recommended by Yadi:

At first I was like wait only six ? But then oh duh right X1 :joy:

This video was really cute. They’re just a tad awkward, but that makes them seem more genuine.

The game made me laugh a lot, especially potato Seungsik :joy:

The way they talked about each other was very sweet. It’s clear they care a lot about each other.

Also I noticed that Hanse was wearing pearls and I’m kinda obsessed. He’s very stylish.

Next we have a mafia dance, also recommended by Yadi:

Seungwoo legitimately impressed me. He’s so clever.

This was another hilarious video. They’re such clowns and I love it. Poor Sejun :joy:

Also, spectacled Subin made a very cute bunny, and it seemed like the agreed.

And finally a transonglation, recommended by Cyn:

My favorite part of transonglation videos is hearing raw vocals, and may I say that Victon’s are fantastic. And of course they were being adorable, what else is new.

Results

I truly had a lot of fun watching these videos. The appeared to have a really close bond. I will definitely watch more from them.

~ Part Four: Conclusion ~

This experiment was a lot of fun. I feel like I learned a lot.

My favorite Victon title track is Me, and my favorite side track is Nightmare. Maybe next I’ll tackle Seungwoo’s solo album, since it’s no secret that a lot of people here love that :eyes:

And now let’s discuss my bias situation. I’m pretty sure it’s Chan, as I do love my main dancers. It doesn’t hurt that he has a really nice voice too. I can’t identify bias wreckers. Let’s just say OT7.

You probably have figured out the answer already, but it’s time to address my initial question.

Am I an Alice now?

Yes. Of course. Obviously.
