It's so much energy, she hates the thought of being there forever. For her second fear, Mal only visits her. She has this fear that he'll marry someone else and have a baby, and she'll be completely forgotten

For example, if someone swings on her, she'll block their arm then hit in the ribs. When it comes to summoning, she's similar to Alina. She uses lots of her old tricks and moves and has leaned the cut, and I will always be sad we didn't get Alina knocking down a mountain in the show :pensive: (I don't think we did)

• ┊ Heir To Ravka ྀ࿐

❛Nikolai Lantsov and Alina Starkov hadn't been married for long when Alina had announced her pregnancy. Ravka cheered in delight, and when Alina gave birth, the cheers got louder. There was already an heir to the throne!... at least... that's what the public believed. In reality Alina had a romantic history with her "bodyguard" Mal, and when Alina found out Mal was the third amplifier, they slept together. Heat of the moment, they both wanted to be close after feeling the end was near. Well, Mal was resurrected and went his own way, but Alina was unknowingly pregnant. Alina never slept with her fake husband Nikolai, so she knew it was Mal's. Problem was Mal was at sea and there was no real way to him. Alina and Nikolai lied about the baby being their's and when word got out about Alina having a baby, that made Mal definitely feel like he wanted to stay away from Ravka. About two years ed and Mal finally returned. When he came back to visit Alina, he got the real news. Mal was a father to a baby girl named Marina Starkov.❜

• ┊ Growing Up ྀ࿐

❛It was a complicated situation. They couldn't reveal the truth to Ravka, but Mal didn't wanna abandon his only child. So, they made an arrangement. Marina had to stay at The Little Palace so no one would get suspicious, so Mal would continue to visit and disguise his visits as "planning things with the King". Mal was Alina's bodyguard and he was known to help save Ravka, so no one questioned it. When Mal was at sea, he had designated "stop areas" where Alina could write to him and later on Marina could write to him. Luckily, this worked. Although Marina didn't see Mal as often as she wanted, they grew super close. Many times she tried to sneak onto his ships, but of course this never worked. Marina honestly preferred being around Mal. She loved Alina but being with Alina meant she had to keep lying and she had to keep up a perfect image. If it was up to her, she would've left and stayed with Mal. As she got older, arguments with her mother became more frequent. It was bound to happen. She didn't want to stay in The Little Palace, she didn't wanna deal with people's expectations of her being a future Saint, she didn't want such limited time to with Mal, she didn't wanna keep pretending Nikolai was her dad, she didn't want to be so trapped. Marina got her stubbornness from Alina though, so it was like a rock being thrown at a brick wall. Nothing changed. This caused her mood to dampen, she became more snippy and ill tempered and started isolating herself. ❜

• ┊ Adult Life ྀ࿐

❛Marina had spent her entire life living for other people. Sure, she should be happy. There were people in way worse situations, but that doesn't erase the hurt and betrayal one would feel. Her heart hurt the more she got older. She loves her mother and Nikolai but being this perfect princess was like holding her breath. When her father came around, it was like she was actually able to breathe. Mal allowed her to truly be herself. Not a "Future Saint". Not "The Sun Summoner". Not "The Princess of Ravka". When Mal was around she was just Marina. Just Marina Starkov, daughter of Malyen Oretsev and Alina Starkov. Mal taught her to track, to navigate, to hunt, to fight, but most importantly, he taught her to trust and believe in herself. Alina was a great mom, don't get me wrong but she had so much on her shoulders and her own image to maintain. Mal was just Mal. She spent her entire life living for other people. Living for Ravka. When she turned 18, she knew she had to make a decision. Would she continue to live and breathe for her country's people, or would she breathe on her own and explore the world as it was? ❜
