Prompt:

"What is that thing?"                               "Relax, he's harmless. He eats green M&Ms"

Amy made her way down to the lake, sitting on the stone cold bench as she observed the leaves falling around her. It was so peaceful this time of year, and she was glad she could spend it away from the bustling city. The downside? She had to stay at her aunt's cabin, with her cousins.

Now cousins are great, besides the fact that, despite only two of them, they made the perfect mischievous pair. Amy went to bed once and wake up to her hair tied to the bed posts.

Jo and Karen Hudson, the worst pair of sisters to walk this earth.

Amy observed a ripple in the water and sighed, wishing so much that she could be a fish and just sink under the water, away from the world above. But she didn't really wanna drown and die, so she stayed put on the little stone bench. She almost dozed off, had it not been for the strange rumbling she suddenly heard.

Amy's eyes shot open and she stared in shock at the gooey pale blob that sat at the edge of the pond. She approached it cautiously and grabbed a stick, poking it slowly. She jumped a bit as it jiggled, but then gathered her courage and poked it again. This time the goo broke apart and a little pale green object sat huddled in the middle, shivering.

"Holy Heck" Amy breathed as the object raised its head and let out a trill, little cry.

Amy looked it at, a tiny bit freaked out but more fascinated.

"Freaking sea baby..." She said, as it yawned, little tiny dull teeth glistening in the autumn sun. She looked around. No mama, which meant no food for this tiny alien.

"I'm crazy but you're cute so let me take you home" She muttered as she slipped off her sweater and picked up the tiny, slimy baby. The hike home wasn't too difficult, because the thing was shivering and trying to borrow into her warm jacket. Now and then it would release a tiny squeak, but that was the only noise it emitted.

She quietly entered the house and made her way upstairs, filling up the sink with slightly warm water as she dropped the tiny thing into it. It let out a small squeak before swirling around in happiness.

"Ok, boy. Or girl, you need a name. Gilbert. I know it sounds masculine but Gilbert sounds like a name you give to a sea monster" She said, talking as though she was going to keep him. In some way, she had already made up her mind.

Amy closed the bathroom door as she headed down to the kitchen and opened up the freezer, her hands growing cold as she searched for some fish. I mean, sea monsters eat fish right? But then again, Gilbert wasn't a sea monster. He was just... Some weird science project gone wrong or something. Maybe some extinct dinosaur who was stubborn enough to drag itself out of the stone and continue living?

Amy didn't know, but she knew that she had to feed Gilbert before he started making too much noise.

After finally finding the fish, Amy made her way back upstairs, half way up before she heard a loud crash. Quickly she ran upstairs and back into her room, where is she found the bathroom door unhinged and slanting and a wet Gilbert digging around her trash. She cautiously approached him, not sure he was going to try and eat her or anything like that.

Suddenly he turned around and flung his head up, little green things falling into his mouth.

"Are those my... Apple M&Ms?" She questioned as she went to go inspect the damage that have been dealt to her bathroom door.

Gilbert let out a tiny squeak of enjoyment as he gobbled down the green M&Ms Amy had thrown away a month ago. Her aunt always bought her green M&Ms despite her usual protests, no matter what Amy said. Her aunt always had some green candy lying around.

Suddenly she heard a gasp and she turned around to see a petrified Jo standing in the doorway, her green eyes wide in disbelief and amazement.

"What is that thing?" Jo said as Gilbert stuck his head back into the trashcan.

Coming up with absolutely zero explanations, Amy shrugged.

"Relax, he's harmless. He eats green M&Ms" She said, tossing the useless fish on the ground.

Gilbert paid them no mind, instead choosing to start snoopng around her dirty clothes that lay scattered across the carpeted floor.

"Karen needs to see this" Jo breathed as she turned to race downstairs, but Amy quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her inside the bedroom, closing the door behind her.

"Nu-uh, your sister would cash him right in to the highest paying bidder" Amy said, locking the door.

"And that's a risk I can't take" She said as they both watched Gilbert sniff the fish with a disgusted look on his face.

Jo looked to be in deep thought, before eventually nodding her head and letting out a sigh.

"You're probably right. Where did you find this thing?"

"This thing's name is Gilbert, and I found him at the edge of the lake. Well actually, I found his egg, and when he hatched I couldn't find the mother so I took him" Amy confessed.

Jo knew all too well that Amy didn't look for the parent, she would find a bunny's nest and take it home if she could. Jo didn't really want to come face to face with the Mother, at this point. She wasn't a big fan of those movies where the kid steals the dinosaur, the mother ransacks the town looking for it then at the end the child finally gives the baby up and the mother takes it and runs off into the forest. Nope, not gonna happen today.

"Amy, we have to take erh, Gilbert back. He has a mother, ya know. Maybe she was hunting? It's not like she knew the exact time her baby would hatch. How would you feel if I stole your child from a daycare?"

The guilt on Amy's face was evident, and she shuffled her feet.

         "Ok-"

Suddenly, Gilbert let out the loudest fREAKING SQUAWK.

         "SQWWWUUUUAK" Gilbert screamed randomly.

"Honey, what are you doing up there?" Jo and Amy could hear their Aunt ask from downstairs.

"TV!" Jo shouted frantically, but they still heard footsteps on the stairs.

"Window!" Amy whispered, and Jo scooped up Gilbert as they made their way out the square hole and onto the roof, in the snappy cold air.

"Let's just get back to the lake" Jo said, and they quickly slid off the roof and onto the wet, frosty grass, ankles pulsing.

"You're such an idiot! What type of person finds a baby monster and takes it home with them?" Jo yelled.

"Apparently me," Amy muttered as they shortly arrived.

Suddenly, they both stopped. Because not 10 ft in front of them lay a four-foot slimy pale blue sea monster.

"I think we just met Gilbert's mom" Jo muttered as Gilbert's mother nudged the gooey slime cast that Gilbert had sprung out of.

Suddenly Gilbert screamed and his mother whipped her head around and flared her nostrils when she saw her baby desperately trying to escape Jo's arms.

"Let him go!" Amy whisper shouted frantically to her, and Gilbert sprung out from her warm grasp as he waddled towards his mother.

She let out a weird rumbling purr, pushing him with her nose into the pond before following him. Soon the only evidence any supernatural being had been there was the slime that coated Jo's arms.

         "Wow" Amy finally said.

         "Now what?"

Jo pretended to think, before yawning.

"I could do with a chicken fajita right now..."
