Playoff Predictions:
Round One-
12 Clemson at 5 Texas
Clemson 28-Texas 20
Why Clemson: If you like offense, you’ll love Texas vs Clemson. This game features two highly explosive offenses. Texas’ inconsistency against other good teams worries me. I think Clemson heads on over to Austin and has the first “upset” of this new playoff format.
9 Tennessee at 8 Ohio State
Tennessee 21-Ohio State 31
Why Ohio State: People will be scared to pick Ohio State due to all of the outside factors. Does the Ryan Day drama worry me? A little but that probably isn’t the focus of the players, and Day knows they will be coaching for his job. Ohio State plays really well outside of the Team in maize and blue. Ohio States is playing for something here and they fend off Tennessee.
11 SMU at 6 Penn State
SMU 17-Penn State 28
Why Penn State: This matchup is really interesting because it is the battle of the unproven. Both teams are good, but don’t particularly have the win to put them up there with the big boys. The weather is a big factor for me, and I think it’ll play in Penn State’s favor. Expect a tough, gritty performance from Penn State on the ground and on the defensive front.
10 Indiana at 7 Notre Dame

Why Notre Dame: In the battle of Indiana we have two teams that have opposite philosophies. Indiana wants to score you out the building, while Notre Dame is playing you out of the game with stingy defense. I like the Irish a little bit more in this one due to being a bit more balanced than Indiana, Irish in a close one.
Quarterfinals-
Peach Bowl- 12 Clemson vs 4 Arizona State

Why Arizona State: Arizona State is on an immense hot streak and I don’t expect that to end against Clemson. A close battle all the way through but Arizona State gets some help from the defense in a crucial stop late in the fourth.
Rose Bowl- 8 Ohio State vs 1 Oregon
Ohio State 34-Oregon 37
Why Oregon: Poor Oregon, all their hard work gets them a nice reward with a newly rejuvenated Ohio State. Since Oregon has ed the Big 10 they have taken every challenge on their chin and responded. That continues in a close battle that comes down to a last second field goal. Turmoil in Columbus as Ryan Day’s future is uncertain.
Fiesta Bowl- 6 Penn State vs 3 Boise State
Penn State 30-Boise State 21
Why Penn State: Penn State has the team to really succeed in these playoffs. They get a matchup against Heisman runner-up Ashton Jeanty. Penn State’s defense will focus fully on Jeanty, but Boise State will still get some points up keeping it relatively close.
Sugar Bowl- 7 Notre Dame vs 2 Georgia
Notre Dame 16-Georgia 23
Why Georgia: This has all the signs of being a dog fight. I think Notre Dame puts out their best defensive performance of the year, but it isn’t enough for the Dawgs. Georgia is too much but the Irish have nothing to hang their head on.

Cotton Bowl- 4 Arizona State vs 1 Oregon
Arizona State 20-Oregon 34
Why Oregon: Arizona State’s magical season comes to an end against Oregon. Oregon will be too much for the Sun Devils to handle and the Ducks are heading to the National Championship.
Orange Bowl- 6 Penn State vs 2 Georgia
Penn State 24-Georgia 38
Why Georgia: This is the game where Georgia really shows the nation that they are still Georgia. They win in convincing fashion. Penn State keeps it relatively close on the scoreboard, as they have done against top ranked opponents all season, but still can’t seem to finish the deal.

National Championship-
2 Georgia vs 1 Oregon
Georgia 31-Oregon 35
Why Oregon: This game has Alabama-Georgia in 2018 vibes. The student looks to take over the master. Both teams will play their best ball all season, but Oregon will eventually get the best of Georgia. Oregon wins in a close game, and Dan Lanning has the argument for best coach in college football.

11: Clemson (ACC Championship)
Despite winning the ACC championship I don’t think Clemson can be ranked much higher than this. Clemson’s offense ran through the ACC but their three losses are what keeps them here. A blowout loss to Georgia, a twelve point loss to a disappointing Louisville, and a three point loss to South Carolina. Clemson can win in the ACC but can they beat the other conferences?

As an Alabama fan this hurts to write. But the committee has to set a precedent. SMU is good, and they cannot miss the playoffs for losing in a close conference championship game. While I think if Alabama and SMU were to play Alabama would win but the committee has to show something here.
