Checkmate [POEM]

Will castling be the winning move?

               I'm back with another draft that has now

               been given attention! So, y'all probably

               met the character in the cover image

               before… she's the sculptor, Galatea, who

               had appeared in the cover of one of my

               hallowe'en poems.

               Anyway, the story as to how it came to be,

               well, it's because I wasn't sure if said pic

               was okay or not. Let me explain further:

               The pic I used on said hallowe'en poem

               was creepy and has bits of blood on it. So,

               I asked one of our curators if it was okay to

               use it as a cover image... just in case...

               anyway, while waiting for their reply, I went

               ahead and looked for a replacement. In

               the end, they said that it was fine, so that's

               neat. However, I have already found a few

               other images that would serve as its

               replacement should the worse case

               scenario happen.

               So, here's one of 'em now~

There are those who believed that,

“Pawns are meant to be sacrifices,

Neither a hero, nor a player

Of a game that's far beyond their grasp,

Far beyond what they could understand,

They are mere decors, accessories

Made to fill up the empty spaces,

They're the audience that will shed blood

All for the sake of the winning crown,

Versatile, they might be, with each round,

But they are nonetheless substitutes,

Emergency replacements and all,

But without much of a real impact,”

And 'tis a fatal mistake,

Pawns are the backbone of an army,

Resilient troops with a fine cause,

Defenders and seekers of Nike

To whom will she bestow victory,

They are vital players of the game

To which the life of the crown hangs on,

Bulwark, are they, to the royal line,

Who are helpless without their presence,

While foolish kings fight on foolish lands,

The Pawns are on their sanctified place,

For it is where they could get their crowns

And become the Queens of their own right,

Don't underestimate Pawns,

Leave them be, and they will all ascend,

And they will take away everything

That one holds dearest, closest their hearts;

The Pawns are the silent reckoning,

Leave them be, and watch the battlefield

Burn down into cinders and ashes,

Watch as they overturn one's defeat

Into a victory for their King,

Leave them be, and face the consequence

Of one whose heart has been filled with spite,

Of one who knew so well about pain,

Of one that will claim place on a throne,

And it will end with a checkmate.
