Did you know your yard has plants with magickal properties? I wanted to make my own rose water for my Unicorn Elixir I had planned to use rose petals from a couple of bushes we have outside. We then had a big storm that knocked most of the flowers off that got all gross from sitting on the soggy ground. The good news? The rain left behind some pretty little weeds and flowers that have magickal properties.

Dandelion

This flower is technically a weed. The petals are still pretty like sunshine! Dandelion is often associated with solar deities. The yellow color corresponds to communication and uplifting energy. Dandelion is also said to aid in psychic ability. This flower is also said to assist with ing deities.

Oxalis (Wood Sorrel)

This little flower has clovers for leaves! Not only can you look for a four leaf clover, but you can use this plant for its magickal purposes too. This plant is said to help with achieving balance and healing. It’s also said to help attract faeries. The flowers can be pink, yellow, or purple.

Rose

There was one rose left on our bush so I did use those petals. As I tried to reach for it all the petals fell off, so I didn’t feel so bad picking it since the petals fell off anyway. Roses are associated with beauty and love. This doesn’t have to mean romantic love! It could also be self love or the love of a friend or group!

Recipe

There are much more elegant recipes out there for rose water. I meant for this to be a quick and easy tutorial for those who have to work with what they got or want to harvest locally (even if that just means your front yard). I literally made it like tea. I boiled water and then poured it over the petals. I have a tea pot that has a basket on the top. You could also just pour the water over the petals and strain them out.

Some FYI

Just to reiterate…do NOT drink this. Use this for magickal purposes only. I also recommend you wash the container thoroughly before using. My tea pot still smelled like spiced Irish breakfast tea...so my water smells...unique. I would only keep this water for a few days at room temperature unless you put a couple drops of peppermint or a citrus oil to help keep bacteria growth down.
