I wanted to use this as an excuse to show off my favourite cosplay project, Junko Enoshima.

So, who am I?

I’m Luna, I go by they/them pronouns and I’m a nonbinary lesbian.

Surprisingly to everyone, I’m a Chemistry student hoping to go into forensics or medical research. I’ve been cosplaying for a good few years now, but since moving out I got even more into it and started some bigger and better projects than I’ve ever done before.

My favourite games are Pokémon, Danganronpa, Life is Strange and Five Nights at Freddys, and my favorite shows are Voltron, Seraph of the End and She-ra.

I started cosplaying as a way to help cope with my mental illnesses, but I’ve kept doing it because I find it genuinely fun and rewarding, I want to make people happy by bringing their favourite characters to life!

What was my inspiration?

Danganronpa is a really popular media to cosplay from, it’s got really interesting character designs and there’s a lot you can do with it. I was wanting to put together something new since I had a big convention coming up. Junko had been on my list of cosplans for a long time and I thought that the con would be a perfect excuse to put her cosplay together.

I chose Junko specifically because her outfit and wig are really pretty, and I thought I could have some fun with the makeup too. I prefer cosplaying female characters as I enjoy doing big eyeliner and adding colours to the makeup parts of my cosplays, since that’s probably my main skill. The wig was relatively simple, which was another good reason to choose her. However much I would love to say I’m a good stylist, I’m really not, but I definitely learned some new techniques with this.

How long did I spend on it?

Overall, around two weeks of working every night.

Even after I decided I’d cosplay her, I put it off until very close to the con, so I spent a lot of my free time con-crunching to make sure it was finished in time.

The hammer was the part that took the longest. I constantly forgot what I was meant to do next, decided I hated it and wanted to start over, or just ran out of materials and forgot to pick up more paint or tape to fix it. I’m guessing I spent about 10-15 hours working on it.

These show the top part painted, and my very messy flat, as I didn’t have much time to keep tidy before con.

This has the tube painted too, and also shows how I have to store it. It’s too big to put anywhere else, so my hammer sits on top of my wardrobe.

Styling the wig took me around 4 hours, with a lot of breaks. I really struggled to make it work, as I decided I only wanted to use one set of ponytails and just tease them for volume. I could only work in small sections, so it was hanging in my shower for days before I finished styling the pigtails. When I’d started, I couldn’t really stop either, because it wouldn’t have looked good unless I finished completely. And since I didn’t have a wig stand, I had to cut her bangs with the wig on, which was infinitely scarier because I had scissors so close to my eyes.

The outfit was around a 5 hour job, and something I put off constantly as well. I started by painting on the white collar and red buttons to a black button-down shirt I had, and while they were drying I worked on sewing and painting the tie. I had to make a couple of attempts as I’d never made a tie from scratch like that before, but eventually I got it done. After that, I made up her bear hairclips, and a red bow for the shirt which I ended up not wanting to use. I already had the skirt I wanted for her, so I didn’t have to make any changes to that.

I finally spent around an hour on finishing touches. To start, I re-laced some heeled black boots with red ribbons, and then I decided to make a mini Monokuma from a plushie I already had. To do this, I sewed up a small jacket which I painted, and a mask with a button closure at the back. The button allowed me to attach it to my pocket so it wouldn’t go missing at the con.

I usually spend around an hour on my cosplay makeup, longer if I’m struggling to get my lashes on.

What did I use?

For the hammer, I used a cardboard box, a sturdy cardboard tube from buying posters, some ribbons, acrylic paint and paint markers, and a lot of tape. I used these because I wanted something lightweight, easy to paint, and most importantly, it needed to be able to be completely taken apart. I built it with a removable pannel for storage use at the con, specifically to put my wig ponytails in as I found them heavy to wear for a longer time.

My wig was bought off amazon, teased heavily using a hairbrush, and then smoothed out again.

My outfit was made using a cheap black button-down shirt, a white shirt that I cut up for fabric and acrylic paints. I used a red and black skirt which I already for her skirt, and have used two pairs of tights, a pair I ripped myself, and a pair of fishnets with a skull print. I used shoes I already had around with ribbons, and for comfort in the outfit I added a pair of shorts and some small sport socks over my tights.

My accessories were made with the fabric from the white shirt and painted to the right colours, as well as wearing some spikey bracelets and a choker from Claire’s, and as my wire rings.

I use almost exclusively drugstore makeup, for Junko I used;

•my Makeup Revolution foundation which doesn’t have a label on the bottle anymore

•NYX Epic Wear eyeliner

•an I Heart Revolution blush pallet that also is missing a label

•a makeup revolution lipstick that I’m not sure of the shade of

•Makeup Revolution BigLash mascara

•an unknown pair of false lashes from my lash box

•a Makeup Revolution eyeshadow pallet, again, I’m not sure which, but it’s got a galaxy design and theme.

•a silver Barry M glitter pot

At con, I also wore my headphones and carried my black backpack with me, basically I had the usual things everyone takes for conventions. The other thing that I’m wearing in my convention photos which I’ve not mentioned is my sunflower lanyard, which signals that I have hidden disabilities. I like to personalise it with pin badges, like my pride flags and pronouns.

I took this picture the morning of con, I had to wake up at 6:30 to make sure I made it to the meeting point on time to get a coach with my friends.

This was taken towards the end of con, and so I don’t look as perfect in it but it shows my outfit better than many others do.

This picture was also from costest day, and probably my favourite of everything. I film some really cool looking videos for my TikTok, but sometimes things go wrong and this was taken when something did go wrong and I fell from sitting on my wall. If anything shows the sort of energy I bring to the characters I cosplay though, it’s this picture.

I cosplay from a lot of different fandoms, including MHA and Homestuck, but Danganronpa is still possibly my favorite, and I hope you all liked my Junko cosplay!
