I've always feared the inevitable

I turned the page of my book,

   and therein, I found

       nostalgic roads down country lanes,

       forgotten midnight ideas,

and comforting truths set in stone,

Such things could give me solace,

and I can't wait to reach out for them,

to grab them with my hands and lock

them to an eternal embrace,

The brilliant stars from high above

brings out laughter from my lips,

sweet sounds of which the Muses gave

as they danced across the horizon,

But clearly, even sweetest dreams

could ignite flames of despair,

for the unknown is quite fickle

as stars whom I still think are alive,

Despite this, I still love the stars,

the same ones where my fate was written,

and though I try to defy it,

I know I could change its outcome,

I've always feared the inevitable

The next chapter couldn't wait,

   what happens next are

filled with sighs that I can't explain,

       of indecipherable words,

       and mysteries, long forgotten,

These enigmas gives a thrill

of wonder and utter confusion,

and like the ever-turning wheel,

I'll never know what could happen,

These mystifying ideas,

oh, how I'd love to solve them,

to end the questions in my head

that keeps me awake all through the night,

But clearly, even conundrums

have answers as bright as day,

an answer simple as the light

that had once shed wisdom unto me,

Oh, how lofty is this bright light,

I tried to reach it out with my hands,

however, I became frightened,

are answers what I truly want?

I've always feared the inevitable

The book has come to an end;

   no more mysteries—

just words that can't be written down,

secrets that can't ever be told,

and poetry, left in the dust,

The moon, silent as ever,

saw my graceless dance behind the clouds,

saw my tear-stained face that's hidden

before the world surrounding me,

As much as I have praised the stars,

I hoped they wouldn't touch me,

for I longed to be a free man,

unstained by inks that have written fates,

I'm the acolyte of despair;

I'm no saint, nor believer,

but still I fear the stars above,

I fear of the inevitable,

The wheels of fate are turning now,

bestowing fortune or otherwise,

but at the very least, leave me,

disturb me not with gifts divine,

I want to end my story without them.
