hey hpaaaa! im haley and this is a collab blog that has been in the works for a couple weeks now! this blog has been probably the most frustrating blog i have ever done. tragedy striked when I was literally SO CLOSE to being done with this blog. i literally only had 4 moodboards left to do and id be done and then my amino glitched and ALL MY DRAFTS WERE GONE :sob: . i had to fully start this over from scratch. so yeah thats just lovely. however I still did enjoy doing this collab so much and I gained the friendship of two great people through it!

but anyway, this is a project that ive collaborated on with the wonderful aleks and amaya! the two of them have been so fun to work with, and im so greatful to have had this experience! we decided to revisit ten old debates and briefly argue our side on them, and additionally make a moodboard to go with each one!

disclaimer 1 : due to my draft disappearing and not having it written anywhere else (learned my lesson on that, i will now be writing all of my blogs elsewhere and transferring them to amino), i lost alot of progress. including the links to the filters I used on some of my moodboards. i will link the filters I can but some of them i have no memory of what filter i used unfortunately.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - characters should only be represented by the hogwarts gouse that they are sorted into. we should only see them as the traits that match with their House.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - each character can have characteristics from all four hogwarts houses, and everyone should be seen for all of their traits.

my argument - against

while the house system is a good way to separate types of people, it is in no way always black and white. personalities are so unique to the person that its near impossible to compartmentalize people into categories and have it always be accurate. take hermione for example: she was sorted into gryffindor, and while she had the usually traits of a gryffindor (bravery, ambition, etc), she also had traits associated with ravenclaw (intelligence, creativity, etc), and was known as the brightest witch of her age.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - cornelius fudge was a great minister of magic and did an amazing job managing the wizarding world.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - fudge was a very bad minister over the wizarding world and only contributed to making a lot of people's lives harder surrounding voldemorts return.

my argument - against

ive never much liked fudge. hes quite insufferable in my opinion. he didn't particularly care that much about the well being of the wizarding community, and he refused to believe voldemort (aka voldiva :heart_eyes: ) had returned even when told numerous times. I get that he didn't want it to be true, but as the minister of magic, its his job to care for the well-being and safety of his community. fudge gets a double thumbs down from me :-1: :-1:

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - the ministry of magic treated squibs really well! they helped them and kept them included as much as they could with magic.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - squibs were mistreated a lot by the ministry, they did not care about or for them properly and offered no .

my argument - against

I believe that the squibs in the series were definitely mistreated. while they may not have been treated as badly as they could have been, they definitely were looked down upon and seen as lesser. and honestly, i feel bad for them. sure, they were fairly grumpy characters but I mean, imagine being a squib in the wizarding world. magic is something that even muggles fantasize about; imagine being so close to real authentic magic, but you cant ever actually use it. id be grouchy too. i think if they were treated more fairly and not looked down upon, they might be happier.

i wasn't sure how this one would turn out, but i actually like it! I just picked some images of the main squibs we see in the series (arabella figg and argus filch). I then picked some miscellaneous pictures that I thought fit. I tried to capture the feeling of being stuck in a world where youre surrounded by magic but are unable to use it yourself. I figured said feeling would be feeling very desperate to get ahold of any magic possible.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - gilderoy lockhart definitely deserved his fate and what happened to him during the chamber of secrets.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - the fate that lockhart had was too harsh, he should have had a better ending (where he could have potentially redeemed himself for all of his wrongdoings)!

my argument - for

in my opinion, lockharts fate was well deserved. he deceived the entire wizarding world into believing he had gone on crazy life threatening adventures and written books about it. however in reality he actually stole stories from innocent people and presented them as his own. additionally, once he had gotten the stories out of his victims, he would erase their memory of it so he wouldn't be found out. personally, I do mot believe these actions are justifiable and the fate he got is comical and fitting in my opinion.

honestly im not gonna lie I love this moodboard. I didn't think id end up liking it but i definitely do! lockhart is just so sassy :stuck_out_tongue: . 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - mcgonagall would have been a much better heaster of hogwarts, with her ideas and actions leading to much better decisions and quality of life for the students.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - dumbledore would have been the better heaster, with his actions aiding the students more is a positive way!

my argument - for

im not the biggest dumbledore hater ever, but i definitely dont like him. I think mcgonagall definitely had the well-being of her students in mind alot more than dumbledore did. dumbledore distanced himself from harry during one of the most stressful times, and picked snape to teach harry legilimency, even though he knew they hated each other. not to mention during a very chaotic and difficult time. he should have realized it wouldn't go well, and also definitely not the time to be trying to get them to be all fuzzy with each other.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - severus snape was better suited to being a gryffindor and would have worked out a much better character if he had been placed there.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - snape is no way shape or form would have been a good gryffindor student. He didn't fit into the traits of that house.

my argument - against

in my opinion, snape is definitely a slytherin through and through. he for sure possesses traits of gryffindor (bravery, determination, etc), and im not saying those traits shouldnt be recognized, but i do think he leans alot more on the slytherin side. so I guess im like "neutral-against" because I don't think he "in no way shape or form would have been a good gryffindor", i just think hes more fitted for slytherin.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - the house point system is 100% fair and a good positive thing not only for the students, but also the teachers! It is a great system!

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - abolishing the house point system would have been a great idea with it making the school and life there much better for everyone involved.

my argument - for

personally I think that the house point system is a great way to motivate students to help each other, participate in class, etc etc. however theres one problem: biases. many of the professors are very biased towards their house/certain students. as we all know, dumbledore tends to give out points willy-nilly at the end of the semester to give gryffindor a better chance at getting the house cup. we've seen how snape is quick to take points from any gryffindor students and eager to give points to slytherin students. even mcgonagall has been a bit biased at times towards gryffindor. so while i do believe the house point system is great, it only works if the professors are fair in their point distribution.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - harry helped voldemort return to his former power more than he helped to stop him. his efforts to stop voldemort were few and far between but, he helped tom return a lot more.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - harry was more of a wrench in voldemorts plans and helped to stop his return to power MORE than he helped him return. harry didn't help tom return too much but, did do a lot to try and stop it for happening.

my argument - neutral

this one is so difficult to decide on. it's such a good debate topic, but its so good that I see both sides of the argument and cant pick. I definitely see how harry could have somewhat "helped" voldemort, but i also dont know if I can fully commit to saying he ultimately helped voldemort more than he didn't. but i do understand how both sides make sense.

I literally had no idea what I was gonna do for this moodboard. finally i decided to focus on the scene in the goblet of fire when voldemort returns. I picked some images of harry and voldemort, a pic of wormtail preparing voldemort for resurrection, some death eater aesthetic pics, and a horcrux. I quite like how it turned out!

justify slughorn debate

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - slughorn was definitely justified in telling students about dark magic. he was just trying to teach and enlighten his students on all aspects of the magical world, not only the good spells.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - what horace slughorn did was very wrong and he should have never told any of his students about very dark magic. It was very dark for a reason, and should have been kept quiet at all costs.

my argument - against

telling students about one of the darkest forms of magic should definitely not have been on slughorns life bingo card. especially since at the time he didn't necessarily know how important it was that harry know about it. ultimately it was important info for harry to aquire to advance the destruction of voldemort though, so I cant be too mad at him.

𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - percy's actions against his family and friends can not be justified, what he did was flat out wrong and should not be forgiven.

𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 - percy weasley's action can definitely be justified, he did and followed the path of what he thought was the right thing to do.

my argument - neutral

for this one, im in the middle. while percys actions weren't necessarily good, they ultimately didn't cause extreme damage in the grand scheme of things, and definitely could have been worse. but that doesn't mean it was okay for him to do those things. he disowned his family, cut off with them, and said some very distasteful things to them. but thats not to say that he shouldnt be forgiven. family is always most important, and everybody screws up and makes bad decisions. but you still forgive your family because you love them.
