Q: "Why did my fish die? He wasn't sick or anything."

A: Unfortunately, ammonia only requires less than 2ppm to spike. Once it spikes, your betta will get sick and may die. Ammonia is bacteria and waste created by the fish, left over waste, or lack of water changes. to cycle your tank to prevent spikes, and if one occurs, head to the Medical Team (Hospital Chat) for help. I'm truly sorry if your fish died to an ammonia spike :heart:

Today we are interviewing: BettaBelieveIt

- How did you get into betta keeping? How long have you been keeping bettas?       

I got my first betta when I was 10, I wasn’t very happy about, let’s just say I wanted a puppy. I never knew that bettas were as amazing as they are. I only truly started getting into the hobby late last year (2018) when I saw a picture of a koi halfmoon dumbo betta. It was beautiful! I wanted to care for these fish and my friend just happened to have a 20 gallon her Chinese algae eater grew out of. I started it up and as I waited for it to cycle I browsed the internet and fell further and further in love with the betta keeping hobby.

- What bettas do you have now? Could we get some pictures of them?               

I have two copper and red halfmoon bettas, one female and one male. Their names are Mazi and Zyco. I had a whole family of various bettas before, but then I had an ammonia spike and they all ed...

- If you have multiple tanks, which tank scape is your favorite? Can we see pictures of that tank?

My favourite aquascape at the moment, in my possession, would be my 20 gallon hexagon. The wood was found by me (it’s two pieces that just happened to fit together in a y shape), the rocks too. The plants were bought at PetSmart and I have more tall ones coming soon!
