Now hello good people of the Gravity Falls fandom! I'm back with yet another controversial topic.
The fact that many people see Mabel as an irritating twat with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
That isn't true
In fact it's very far from the truth, YES Mabel is sometimes selfish. YES she can be brat. YES she can be forgetful. but NO she is not irredeemable.
I think this argument was made by a Dipper fan to be honest. Not bashing Dipper fans but that's what I think.
And, I can understand that, you sympathize with a character much like you'd sympathize with a real human being, you don't want them hurt you want them happy, I get it.
Now Dipper.
Do I find him overrated?
Yes. Yes. YES. EDIT: Not anymore, he’s my child :3
Do I hate him?
Well...no not really EDIT: Not at all! He’s my child!
He's a good character, sure but for me he was just...THERE. if he died I don't think I would've cared, I'd've shrugged and continued watching without any heartbreak. Maybe even rolled my eyes at the screaming fans, idk. EDIT: I’d cry too if he died now :disappointed_relieved:
EDIT: Do note that I'm not saying Dipper is selfish, just that people should pay more attention to the bad he does as well, y'know? :blush:
Anyway, time to take apart this argument! Disembodied Voice, if you may.

Yes, and that was wrong, but she kinda had a reason, Dipper was gloating when he won chess and she explained that it's not the only thing he gloats about, she finally felt like she was winning something and in all honesty I can relate.
But...okay really, in what way was Mabel selfish in this episode?

The megaphone wasn't for Mabel at all?!

The megaphone was for Mermando, Mabel wanted to help him get back to his family.

In fact that's the complete and utter opposite! If anyone was being selfish it was Dipper.

It was so he could hang out with Wendy.

It's not, but let's think AGAIN. Did we really all forget how Dipper threw life savers on top of the police officers and laughed at the fact that they were scared? Or when he made Soos believe that he was starting an inflatable duck revolution?
Not only did Dipper have no interest in taking his job seriously, do we actually think it was cool for him to not give the megaphone just so he could break rules with a girl who had zero interest in him?
Like bruh, come on man.

And Mabel left Mabel Land, people still hate her for it.

Dipper stole Blendin's time travel tape after he says "no" and then ruins his life, why? Because he wanted to hang out with a girl, who again, HAS ZERO INTEREST IN HIM. get that in your skull Dipper!

We ALL know Dipper wasn't going to ask Wendy out then, OK? And even if he did, Wendy's answer would've probably still been: "I'm too old for you."

Guys, it was this episode in which my respect for Dipper DROPPED.

What about all the times Mabel saved your life?! What about when she gave you a valentine when nobody else would?! What about the times she ed your supernatural stuff?!
I'm not mad at Bill, he's totally cool :sunglasses: also he's a bad guy. He kinda needed to do his job as a villain ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Either Dipper can't see the good his sister does for him, is an ungrateful idiot, or his brain needed an excuse to get the laptop . Even if it meant making deals with the devil.

In Dipper and Mabel vs. The Future, Mabel kinda overreacted and was wrong to give the rift. She was also wrong to stay in her bubble prison again, can't really defend her.
Also, can't rant about Dipper here...ಠ_ಠ
....In Conclusion....
Mabel isn't a bad person she tries to be proper and trying is very good in my opinion :3
She may have her selfish moments but she has her selfless ones too.
Remaking Stan's statue
Finding Robbie a new girlfriend
Making sweaters during the apocalypse
And of course the kind things she does for Dipper.
So....I may have triggered a bunch of Dipper fans...sorry about that...

When Alex Hirsch himself personally made similar points, it's kinda hard to disagree with you.
Actually I disagree sorry but dipper did do good stuff for Mabel and I can relate more to dipper than Mabel because sure he had his selfish moments but
He did get Mabel out of the bubble and if everyone were hating me then yeah I would be like dipper and the only reason why he did give up the megaphone :loudspeaker: is so actually Mabel can get mermando back home and tbh Mabel's not any better then dipper also dipper the only reason he wants to hang out with dipper is because he's in love with Wendy and there's nothing wrong with that ok
It's totally fine if you relate to Dipper more :blush: I for one relate to Mabel more and that's why I made the blog.
Like I said, Dipper isn't really selfish, but he does have his moments and a lot of them happen in the same episodes people call Mabel "selfish".
Yes, Dipper helped Mabel out of the bubble but Mabel saved Dipper from Gideon twice and even exploded her play for his sake.
And no, you're right, there's nothing wrong with Dipper loving Wendy, but all the times he tried to get with her he put others at risk. Having a crush is fine, but ruining Blendin's life, not wanting to help a stranded Merman, and abusing your power as a life guard is NOT fine.
Finally, the better sibling is Dipper, but the better person is Mabel, and no this isn't bias, because my favourite character is Bill, but while Dipper takes good care of Mabel, Mabel takes good care of everyone else, she does a lot more kind things than Dipper.
But, if u don't agree that's perfectly fine! :blush:

I do kinda agree I just didn't like the point where you said you would shrug if dipper died and role your eyes when the fan girls are crying but that's your choice there is nothing wrong with liking Mabel and not dipper I'm perfectly fine about it okay I just kinda got sad when you said that you would shrug but I understand have a good rest of your day 🙂

As weird as it sounds, I like the fact she's selfish(come at meh). If she was a prefect, always was right and stuff she wouldn't felt real. Plus she's young, she most likely had no one to tell her: "ehhh you're kinda a brat you know?". Only bad part is she doesn't really learn her lesson (but let's just act like that didn't happen...). She could have easily been made annoying and selfish, but to me she was relatable (for personal reasons 🙃). Overall, good rant and is what else to say. Good day. :stuck_out_tongue:
Completely agree! Yeah, it would've been better if she learned more but I guess that's one of the flaws to a near flawless show! :blush:
Totally Agree with you. Dipper was my favpurite becasue of his relatable moments but Mabel is for sure the nicest character I have ever see in any tv show in a long time.
