Laura was born and raised in gravity falls, an only child for most of her life. She'd always been fairly bright, and took an interest in books and literature. Classics like The Odyssey and works of Shakespeare had become her favorites. Her parents were well known by the town, her father coming from a line of wood-workers and her mother from a family of miners. They raised their daughter to be independent and kind, but emphasized the importance of strength. Being reliable for others, and dependable for those around you. Even in the time they grew up in, they believed their daughter should have valuable life skills needed to handle things on her own. Cutting wood, fishing, mending and cooking were just a handful of the things her parents were keen to teach their daughter.

Relatively well known and liked around town, Laura was part of her highschools very small drama department. She loved theater and would later go on to get a summer job out of town at a Renaissance faire. This would turn into a regular gig for her, not just working, but attending in garb and creating a character for herself in the years to follow. She even managed to land a very small acting roll in some of the organized plays, but, being a woman it already wasn't very big. Laura always secretly hoped she'd get to play someone like Mordred or Robin Hood. Around senior year is when her little sister was born; Wanda. Who would later go on to marry 'Manly' Dan Corduroy.

into her college years, Laura decided to go of her own volition. Her parents didn't mind either way, but both were declining in health. She would ultimately only finish two years of gravity falls community college before dropping out when her mother died. Her father ed a year later, leaving her to raise her young sister alone.

around that time, she started taking a lot of part time jobs around gravity falls. Becoming a bit famous for it. Pizza places, the library, the convenience store, you name it. Laura worked there. She had a house, car, and younger sister to take care of, after all. When Wanda was 6 years old, a man named Stanford pines moved into the town to conduct his research. While his house was being built, Laura- all be it reluctantly- offered the spare room in her house to him. Starting a tenuous friendship with the man. She was able to help with some of his research in journal 1, being a local and all. But 6 years later, a fight involving a possessed Stanford threatening the life of her younger sister, would lead to them falling out.

Laura found out about Stanley impersonating his brother a month into him running the Mystery Shack (then Murder Hut) prying answers out of him, she agreed to help get him back if only to get answers for his behavior that caused their fight back then. She becomes good friends with him and genuinely tries to help Mcgucket with his memories, since she was unable to stop him back in the day.

feels guilty about how she conducted herself following her sisters death. Knowing she hurt Wendy by shutting her out. Over the summer, the two are able to reconnect.
