Big Hit Entertainment has shared an update on the legal action they have been taking on behalf of BTS, and it reads as follows:

Hello, this is Big Hit Entertainment.

Our agency is regularly taking legal action against malicious slander, the spread of false rumors, personal attacks, and defamation regarding BTS. We would like to notify you with updates.

As we stated in November 2018 and August 2019, we have submitted evidence collected through fan submissions and our own monitoring to the relevant investigative agency, which has confirmed the identities of the majority of people who have created malicious posts. As a result, the majority of those suspects have undergone or are awaiting investigation, and some have been sentenced with fines. Although it is difficult for us to reveal the details or process of the investigation at the request of the investigative agency, we wish to notify you that punishments are being given to those involved.

Also, we have filed new complaints on new malicious posts we have collected evidence on in the second half of this year according to our internal legal procedures, and investigations have recently begun on those matters.

Such legal actions against malicious posts are being handled by our agency’s legal team. As the rule is that when a charge is filed by a third party, the artist must appear at the police station and be questioned, many difficulties may occur, especially with our artists’ busy schedules. Therefore, we wish to state that it will be difficult for our agency to provide cooperation and for charges filed by third parties, whether it be through individuals or organizations.

We will continue to take regular legal action according to submissions from fans and our own monitoring. From next year, we will be increasing the frequency of when we file complaints to take stronger measures to protect our artists. We ask for your continued submissions to Big Hit’s legal .

MBC has been accused of abusing their power to purposely prevent TXT and GFRIEND from appearing at the 2019 MBC Music Festival after being notified that BTS would not be attending their year-end show.

When the lineup for the 2019 MBC Music Festival was unveiled, allegations of discord between Big Hit Entertainment and MBC arose among social media and online communities. Because TXT and GFRIEND were not included in the lineup, many netizens suspected that MBC was exercising vengeful gapjil (Korean term for abuse of power) on them. TXT is part of Big Hit Entertainment along with BTS, while GFRIEND is under Source Music, which was acquired by Big Hit Entertainment in July.

Previously, it was announced that BTS would appear on “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on December 31. MBC reportedly blocked TXT and GFRIEND from performing at the 2019 MBC Music Festival after this announcement was made. A source from MBC told OSEN, “I haven’t heard about the reason why TXT and GFRIEND are not appearing. However, many people were disappointed that BTS will not appear on the 2019 MBC Music Festival. The production team must especially be disappointed. [BTS] will appear on SBS’s and KBS’s year-end shows but not MBC’s, so there have been many contrasting opinions ever since the lineup was revealed.”

According to OSEN, multiple industry sources shared, “Ever since October, when BTS’s side told MBC that BTS would not be appearing on MBC’s year-end music festival, it has been difficult for singers associated with Big Hit Entertainment to appear on MBC. It is already an openly known fact in the industry.”

On December 26, a source from the 2019 MBC Music Festival shared in a telephone interview, “It is definitely not true that the reason why TXT and GFRIEND are not appearing in this year’s MBC Music Festival is due to BTS’s absence from the show. The casting decisions are made by the PD [producing director] in charge. BTS’s absence is due to their pre-arranged overseas schedule.”

Regarding the fact that TXT had not been part of the lineup for MBC’s “2020 Idol Star Athletics – New Year Special,” an MBC official said, “The producers of the two events are different, so that is completely unrelated.”

The 2019 MBC Music Festival will be held on December 31 at 8:55 p.m. KST.

A broadcasting official said, “Last Oct, BTS’ side let MBC know that they couldn’t attend the year end show bc of a scheduling conflict. After that, it’s known that BH artists are having a hard time attending MBC shows. It’s already a well known truth in the industry.”

The scheduling conflict is bc BTS will be appearing on Dick Clark’s Rockin Eve un Times Square. After that was made known to MBC, they blocked TXT and GFriend’s appearances on the network.

OSEN ed MBC but have yet to hear back.

A MBC official said, “I haven’t heard the reason why TXT & GFriend aren’t attending. However, there are many people disappointed that BTS isn’t attending MBC’s Gayo Daejejeon. The production team must be especially disappointed since they’re attending SBS and KBS, but not MBC “so when the lineups came out, comparisons were made.”

The official said, “Despite that, the show’s team is working hard to overcome the comparisons. Although they do understand if an overseas schedule was made before the show, they still can’t help feel disappointed.”
